  1. Glad to hear it! I love sharing it as I'm listening to this stuff almost daily this time of year. I'm a self-admitted draft nerd. However, I've been obsessing over this long enough I no longer get emotionally invested one iota in the outcome of the Packers draft. We simply never know. And, even when we think we do, we still might be wrong. What I do love throughout the process, however, is finding my Draft crushes. That is a very real thing. I always want my beloved and heartbreaking Packers to select at least some of them, but, I enter the Draft knowing I may not see a single one in the Green and Gold. And, that's just how it is.
  2. I have no problem with the Mocks posted - but, I'm also looking at all of this on my desktop. Are you on a Mobile? I think the joy of posting a Mock for an individual isn't that they think this is what is going to happen but it is, rather, a kind of declaration: 'I'd be really excited if this happened'. I have fun doing the Mocks myself because on any given day a Board may have changed and been adjusted since Pro Days have taken place or the trades proposed or the results are just wildly different than the time or two prior. Also, as to accuracy: I would loosely argue nobody is really all that accurate, and, I've found over the 22 some stupidly obsessive years I've followed the Combine and the Draft season NFL.com certainly isn't gospel either - Bucky, Jeremia, and Reuters can be wildly off-base just as anyone else. If a given individual finds they like a certain pool of players or the ratings used, I say, have at it. I tend to lean Pro Football Network for my mock drafts. Occasionally, I'll use Ross Uglem's RAS-tilted Packers board at Fan Speak (tho, one finds even tho Ross' list 'should' be tilted Packers it, too, is often found to be suspect with what the Packers actually do...ie, they can be unpredictable. Imagine that.). I don't use The Draft Network simply because I don't like to pay for any of these services. I guess, on a personal level, that's where I tend to throw my hands up at the entire process and trust I'll gather enough free information to form confident amateur opinions. Lol. Anyhow, that's just my two centavos.
  3. More TE Draft intel from muh Guy Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network: * Trey McBride had an extremely surprising performance at his Pro Day yesterday. He ran faster than anyone was prepared for: a 4.54 40 apparently. He has now moved into the TE 1 and TE2 conversation most likely coming off the board in the 2nd round. His belief is the other clear Rd 2 TE is Greg Dulcich of UCLA. A Quick Note Here: Recall, Wydermyer had an egregiously bad Pro Day and is now a candidate to go undrafted in his eyes. Pre-Draft Process darling Isaiah Likely (Coastal Carolina) has tested fairly pedestrian throughout the pre-draft process and appears to be falling tho he also believes he will provide good value in, say, Rd 3 or early 4 as he plays much faster than he times. AND, Jeremy Ruckert has an ongoing, and potentially concerning, lower leg injury and was seen in a walking boot during his Pro Day. * Another TE who is clearly rising up draft boards is Maryland's Chigoziem Okonkwo - he has tested quite well and had an excellent Pro Day. He sees him as an early Rd 4 riser as a very intriguing Move TE prospect. * Interestingly, he didn't mention a single thing on my early TE Draft crush, Jelani Woods (posted about above) but his colleagues in their Draft Analyst department, Oliver Hodgkinson and Ian Cummings (who have a very enjoyable podcast for you Draft nerds, btw) have fallen in love with Woods as a prospect and they believe he may go as early as Round 2. We shall see. If you're in to this type of draft coverage: REALLY good convo here today. He goes into precise detail of 3rd round round value at WR where I personally think the Packers will find many a target to potentially add to their WR room. Also goes into detail on Day 3 interior OL. Tony's breadth of draft knowledge is really uncanny. (Start at the 51:50 mark and it is straight into the conversation)
  4. I love it when you get that random Mock you are completely content with. I've been saying 'Cole Strange' and 'Zach Tom' are worth it for the names alone. Bonito is a really interesting hybrid modern Edge/OLB guy. One of those new age modern NFL multi-tools. He'd be really interesting in their pool of Edge depth. Where I seem to find myself consistently, when considering Packers Edge, is mining for a size and violence in a developmental prospect. I find guys with mass and juice to be, in my limited mind, more 'Packers' guys given they tended to play more Nickel sets where the ILB (ergo, Devandre) was the primary coverage Backer. I gravitate to the Ebiketies, Mafes, and two guys I find vastly underrated, in Kentucky's Josh Paschal - who, imo, is about as Zadarius Smith as a sleeper prospect can get (and, no, not because they attended the same college lol) - and SDSU's Cameron Thomas. As an overall commentary on this draft, I'd say it's a bit heavy on OL in those early rounds. I think they'll add a Safety and a TE early. But, what the hell do I know. What matters here is you came away happy with the results. That's a successful mock!
  5. I like my Sci-Fi like I like my baguettes: Hard but with body and texture. A bigger bonus if the series or book pairs well with butter.
  6. I started the Dune series of books just upon finishing the epic masterpiece that raked at the Oscars this season. So far, and it's early, it is wonderfully written and easy to read. I'm big into Sci-Fi/Fantasy - have been for a lonnnnnnng time - so it is mildly comical I still hadn't actually read Herbert. I continue to read TheThree-Body Problem by Liu Cixin. It's engaging and really well done. Lastly, tho I am reading several other books (mainly about plants and farming or Naturalist related endeavors), I would share I am reading Sand Talk: How Indigenous Thinking Can Save the World by Tyson Yunkaporta. It's incredible. Edit to Add: Just read a snippet of Joel Shepard's first in that series...seems like a turn right up my Battlestar Gallactica fetish. I'll have to give it a look.
  7. A random note about the name 'Julio Muchacho':

When I was first considering the transition from obsessive and creepy lurker in those epic minor league threads of the original Brewer Fan to an actual poster, I was really struggling with a name. Initially, I tried to craft an homage to Marquis Grissom's innate ability to swing and colossally whiff at every off-the-plate slider feigning as a possible pitch over home plate. I found that homage mysterious and challenging. For some reason, unbeknownst to my conscious self, a casual story 'The Rock' shared over a telecast sometime in the 1990-1991 season about then Brewers reliever 'Julio Machado' was milling about my Brewers-themed mind and it sunk its teeth in me. Apparently, Bill revealed at that time, Señor Machado loved to eat iguana. As an adult, having now traveled extensively in Central and South America, this is just not a big deal - not even remotely. BUT, as a suburban 8th grader at that time, I was incredulous.  "Iguanas?!? Whoa." Machado had instantly achieved cult status in my eyes. And, that story had traveled with me in the dusty caverns of my mind ever since.

So, as I was considering my 'screen name' I became married to an homage to this one-time Brewers reliever, Julio Machado, who had somehow managed to continue occupying a snug place in the archives of my Brewers nostalgia even tho he pitched a mere season with the club! Why did he only pitch one season? During the inquiry, I hit a snag. As I was randomly trying to validate my memory of that same broadcast on the interwebs, I discovered Mr. Machado was expected back with the Crew for the 1992 season but there was a hiccup: he was being investigated for allegedly murdering a secretary in his home country of Venezuela during a traffic dispute (in which, he later claimed, he feared he was being robbed). The iguana story careened to the wayside when learning of this truly unfortunate event. Who knows what truly happened that disastrous evening? I certainly don't. It's just a terrible event any way we look at it and a woman was taken from her life in ways she never imagined. Machado was ultimately released after serving 4 of his 12 year sentence in a Venezuela prison...and, with it, so did the aura of magic surrounding my memory of the 'telecast iguana'. I was defeated. But, I had already committed.

SO, downtrodden and morose, I simply opted for 'Julio Muchacho'. If I translated it truly and with emotion, it would read: 'Julio, Man!'. What I intended to use, originally, was: 'Julio Machado's Iguana'. ?

AND, my friends, that is entirely too much detail behind my screen name. But, what can I say, I began writing this lil piece. I had committed.

  8. (Just for reference, here are his combined - combine and Pro Day - results. I think the sky is the Limit for this kid in the Packers offense.)
  9. One of my draft crushes (previously mentioned? Too lazy to look!) Jelani Woods - our legit Marcedes Lewis on steroids TE prospect - at a ripe ripe man statue stature of 6'7" 260 lbs just completed his Pro Day. AND, gents, lemme tell you: IF there ever was a TE that absolutely needed to enter the Packer TE room to parlay with the Big Dog, this is our guy. After submitting his agility and explosive numbers from his Pro Day - and resting at a cool 4.61 40, 24 reps on bench with arms measuring over 34" (crazy!) and other Combine numbers that had rated him the 4th overall TE prospects ever tested since 1987 - is now officially THE most athletic TE ever tested by the RAS metric. That's insane. Must have. What I love about Woods is he is just, and I mean just, tapping into his potential. His first 3 years were nearly all spent 'in line' as a blocking Ace for Oklahoma State. Last season was his first true effort at being a more complete TE: 44 rec, 589 yds, 8 TD's. We already know this man was made for blocking - he has all the tools there. But, now we have a Red Zone and 3rd down target to pair into our up and coming diverse running game.
  10. True. True. And, I guess, from a similar vantage point Seattle both gets an asset at the most important position in professional football and they off-load a Star player who is due for a new contract by next season - something they surely don't want to deal with or engage given they are literally just starting a purported rebuild. The addendum, I should have added: It's hard to say anything about Jordan Love. We haven't seen enough of him. We don't know how the Packers truly view him and we don't know how he's viewed in the League.
  11. A few things here: (1) It's clear PFF has Bernhard Raimann quite highly ranked. I really like his game quite a bit but I have a hard time seeing him going Rd. 1. He seems, to me, to be a classic Rd 2 guy. It will be interesting to see where he lands. (2) I think I'm in the minority here (?), but, given the nature of the depth and quality of the Edge in this draft I really am not that into going for David Ojabo. I know he's an extremely talented player and, prior to the achilles, he was a consensus Top 15 pick. But if there's an injury trend I believe I've seen in pro sports, it's the understanding (admittedly, I could be wrong here) there is typicall a prolonged period of recovery to get 'back to where they were' when it comes to those achilles injuries. I don't see Cam Akers as the rule - I see him as the exception. I am at a place, presently, where I would prefer another team takes that gamble. AND, if the Packers happen to grab him up, I'll change that tune right quick. ? (3) J. Love and a 7th seems awfully awfully light for DK Metcalf. However, I'm also capable of saying: What the heck do I know?
  12. I certainly would be lying if I said I remember Roy Howell or his role on the Brewers - I was a mere 2-6 yo during his stint with the Brew Crew, respectively. BUT, what I do remember of that era is the absolute crisis I faced as a wee 4 yo boy when that 1982 World Series hit. I had somehow become a devout 'fan' of the Cardinals at that young age (a laughable memory now) because of my admiration of Willie McGee and Ozzie Smith. I legit loved those players. I remember sitting before our Zenith television with the odd push button cable box and my two lapel pins, one on each side of the TV, of the Brewers and Cardinals. It was, perhaps, my first 'come to Jesus' moment as a young sports fan. I was crushed when the Brewers lost and I then realized that was my Team come hell or high water. Little did I know then...little did I know...what I was in for as a fan.

  16. Absolutely. There is only one term...and it is clearly Manfred Man. And, given that, it is clear MLB at large may be blinded by the light in choosing to continue with the 'Zipper'.

  20. Will be interesting to see what, if anything, he has left in the tank. Sinker Baller if I recall, correctly? But, really a ground ball pitcher who lacks any ability to strike batters out? It's been awhile. But, on a minor league deal take a look and see if there is anything there. Since the first couple games of Spring, the bullpen hasn't exactly been lighting it up as it were.

  24. Circling back to QB's. Now that Pro Days have progressed, I'm going to go 'on record' and say I see 3 QB's for sure Rd 1 and, now, after UNC maybe 4 Qb's. (1) Malik Willis (2) Matt Corral (3) Kenny Pickett (4) Sam Howell Apparently, Howell really impressed at his Pro Day and he now has 1st Rd buzz. May it be so. Just keep on pumping those QB's everyone. EDIT: I am bumping this mainly because I spoke early and felt only Malik Willis was a surefire. And, well, I spoke early. And, I'm a moron.
  25. One thing we can agree on: This month of April leading up to the Draft is going to be FUN. I love this time of year and having 4 picks in the top 59 is just an incredible amount of draft Capital for 'The Gute'. He is typically very fun in those first 2 rounds anyhow and has been quite good historically in those higher picks I would argue.
