  1. Perez is back manning the OF grass as I suspected. Here's hoping he reclaims that form that had him ranked so highly in prospect circles in previous years forcing a promotion to Wisconsin.
  2. @CheeseheadInQCand @clancyphile: Note, we have an official Two-Way designation for Quinton Low.
  3. Votto worked the count full - laying off two very tantalizing and fantastic pitches (a borderline 94 plus heater inside and just high and a beautiful slider down in the zone and into the dirt) - and Junk gets him swinging on a curveball up and outside the upper right corner of the zone. What you love about the Votto AB? Junk didn't give him a single pitch to hit in the zone. Everything bordering or beyond. That is what you want to see with a dangerous bat like Votto's. On to the bottom of the third frame.
  4. After a high chopper infield hit to third base (Toro incapable of bare-handing the bounce) Junk gets the strike him out throw him out play to grab two outs. Navarreto and his stellar arm from home plate at it again early here in 2023 as he nabs his first runner with a beautiful throw right to second base. Alvarez follows by rushing a ground ball to his right, and botching the pick up allowing a Siani to reach first base. On the ensuing AB, Junk sees a well hit grounder up the middle ricocheting off his glove hand. We have runners on first and second base off Alvarez's error and Votto at the dish. Let's hope Junk can reach deep and get the All Star. He has him on an 0-2 count with two foul balls.
  5. Navarreto rips a sharp line drive single skipping off the deep dirt beyond third base into left field. Alvarez beats the throw home but Navarreto is thrown out at second base as he tried to stretch the misfire home into a free bag. 2-0 Sounds as we head to the 3rd inning. Great work at the dish in the 2nd inning there from our Sounds.
  6. Monasterio delivers with an rbi line drive single to center field. Alvarez with some adept base running rounding second to draw the throw to third base as he makes it safely back to second and Peyton Henry scores the run. 1-0 Sounds and Navarreto looks to add to the lead. Still two down.
  7. After a Peyton Henry flare single to shallow right field, Eddie Alvarez works a full count walk after an 0-2 start off Anderson. Men on first and second base, now, with two outs. Monasterio will try to knock them across home plate.
  8. Yeah, I'm going off Jeff Hem in the booth. Thanks for the more precise info! Hence, I was surprised. LOL.
  9. In classic umpire fashion, he's not giving Junk the outside stripe against righties but he's certainly giving Anderson the benefit of the doubt against lefties. I never get it. Regardless, fast paced game early. Both pitchers are hitting the zone. We are one out away from the 3rd. Junk ended his second frame with a fantastic breaking curveball for a strike three swing and miss.
  10. Junk update: He's touching 95 mph on the radar gun here early (surprising, admittedly). He's starting to find his curve ball (sitting upper 70's). The ump is not giving him the outer stripe - which is a shame as he is really nailing the outside half. All in all, a very good start. I could definitely see him as a long reliever with the big club this season. He has a solid four pitch mix.
  11. LOL. Yeah, it's a very real thing. Every pre-game last year in Nashville the opposing managers and the opposing players mentioned how there was no room for error. They are all insane athletes. SO fun to watch.
  12. I told y'all. Such a fantastic baseball player. He's been perennially undervalued and underrated. But, he's the kind of player you love to watch play baseball. So smooth, fundamentally sound, and such an underrated overall athlete. Glad you're enjoying his play!
  13. The Sounds answer the fly out pop up bell by nearly replicating the Bats first frame: Frelick shallow pop up to the third base dirt, Naquin fly out to left, and a Toro deep fly out to the warning track in right. It's on to the second frame. Old Brewer, RHP Chase Anderson is on the hill for the Bats - always nice to see him on the mound.
  14. Junk pitches a scoreless top half of the first. A first pitch deep fly out to the left field warning track. A fly out to Frelick in right field. And, a shallow pop up off of Joey Votto's bat to Andruw Monasterio in the fringe outfield grass beyond short off an effective off speed breaker. An effective first inning of work off the mound. More to come.
  15. Well, with Lauer not backing up his off season remarks...I'm headed to watch Janson Junk's debut. Best of luck, everyone. Let's go Brewers!
  16. Please just give us the non-ST version of Eric Lauer today. This is all I ask, baseball Gods.
  17. I was thinking the same. I was also thinking there is a memo to give Toro and Alvarez as many looks as possible. The infield, defensively, is going to need the work. This isn't 2022, I can tell you that 🤭 This is also why I was stating last night: let's give Hiura some more looks at 2B to keep his bat active and working. Or, in the very least, give Dorrian some meaningful reps as well. Singleton deserves the lion's share of reps at 1B imho because, well, he's an awesome first baseman. Lotta season left, obviously. We'll just have to see how the chips fall.
  18. We can all breathe a sweet sigh of relief: Big Jon Singleton is back in the Sounds lineup. It is a joyous day.
  19. Pretty dang cool.
  20. From a strictly baseball vantage point, no historicity involved, you had to be extremely pleased with the AB's from Hiura last night. He got better, more patient, and more selective as the game wore on. As a baseball fan, he is truly a pleasure to watch in Nashville as he is a truly dangerous bat every trip to the plate. I simply hope he can continue to reduce his ridiculous strikeout tendencies of the past couple years. I am hoping he still gets some run at 2B but that ship may have sailed. Frelick, man, he just impacts the games in so many ways. Above and beyond his talent, which is blatantly obvious, it's his fire; passion; and competitiveness. The young man fights for everything - it has to be contagious as a teammate. He'll passionately argue what seems like every close ground ball out. It is quite obvious when you watch the Triple-A games: he is an MLB player today and, other than the fact he actually isn't an MLB player today 😅, I don't really think it's debatable. The talent and abilities discrepancy with a guy like him and other guys across the League is quite something. It truly is a small difference between Triple-A caliber player and MLB player but it is there and Sal definitely is well beyond the right side of that line (if that makes sense).
  21. Ahhhhhhh, yes. Our first Minor League report of 2023. Tis like a fresh cup of coffee on the front porch. Here's to an awesome and healthy 2023! Also, completely agreed on Peguero. He was pretty filthy last night. If he can maintain that composure and controlled approach, that's definitely an MLB arm to add to the mix. He was comfortably sitting 94-96. And, he had a lot of downward sink that was getting lots of lunging whiffing bats. I was quite impressed.
  22. Sounds leave 16 men on base to the Bats 6. The Sounds had to win this game given how many times they stranded runners. Austin Jackson really struggled in key spots. Keston had a heck of a game 2 with the solo bomb and three free passes. Much better work at first base in game 2 as well. I am hoping to see Big Jon in the line up tomorrow. I need my Singleton fix.
  23. He's such an electric player. Everything he does is with high octane mad man effort to boot. He's an MLB player, today.
  24. Winning a game with 8 combined errors between the two squads (four apiece) on a walk-off wild pitch was quite fitting. Heck of a way to start the season. 2-0 feels darn good!
  25. He sure did. And fired an absolute flat footed dart to first base. Honestly, I think striking out batter 1 of his second inning on three straight 87 fading change ups was even more impressive. Great first outing!
