What’s wild is this isn’t even mentioned in passing on the Sounds Twitter or in the post game article. I mean that’s an incredible inning of work after a rough 8th and a rough overall Triple-A experience. Hopefully, this is the match needed to light his shutdown fire. We all know he has it in there. He’s finding his way. Love to see it!

It’s 14-1 Sounds but let’s call a spade a spade: Cam Robinson has struggled mightily since his worthy promotion. This is a great test for him and will be key to his growth and off-season work. The plus 8 ERA is real - as is the 0.350 BAA and the 2.00 WHIP. Very much a work in progress and he very much has plenty of off-season work to do.

Alexander only has some 12 starts actually. He was great when there - a part of just a solid Triple-A staff. Lindbolm is on the heels of his 6th consecutive quality start? He’s been crucially good at the most important time. Other than a stint mid-summer when he was admittedly working on things ON the mound (which he admits was a mistake) and struggled, he’s been a stud. I love watching him pitch. As to would Josh perform better in the spot starting role? He’s struggled in his most recent MLB stints. Hard to say

In yet another key game in the Sounds deep playoff push, a cellar dwellar again proved to be the thorn in Nashville's side. I don't know what it is, but I have yet to see an easy game played versus Charlotte or Louisville. So it goes in a baseball season. Let's get into the quick recap. Image courtesy of Brewer Fanatic In yet another key game in the Sounds deep playoff push, a cellar dwellar again proved to be the thorn in Nashville's side. I don't know what it is, but I have yet to see an easy game played versus Charlotte or Louisville. So it goes in a baseball season. Let's get into the quick recap. Transactions: 9/19: (late transaction) C Nick Kahle was assigned to the Nashville Sounds from the Biloxi Shuckers RHP Justin Topa was was optioned to the Nashville Sounds by the Milwaukee Brewers Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Louisville (Reds) 10, Nashville 5 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, please visit and review: Sounds Falter in Louisville - Nashville's Magic Number Remains at Five to Win Division A bases loaded one out situation in the top of the eighth inning fell short when INF Cam Devanney grounded into a first pitch, broken bat, ground ball to the Bats shortstop. This was truly an unfortunate end after INF Patrick Dorrian had just worked an 0-2 count to a 10-pitch walk to load them up. A chance to take the lead for the first time or, in the very least, continue chipping away ended in a fizzle and the Sounds trailed 7-5. It would officially get away from them after RHP Luis Contreras and LHP Ethan Small (who clearly continues to scuffle) gave up three more runs combined in the next half inning to complete the final score. Three Quick Strikes: 1) OF Sal Frelick extended his on base streak to 37 games (!!) with a double and a two-run line drive home run over the right field wall. This is the longest current active streak in the International League and the second longest of the season. I don't know about you, but I am really really looking forward to Frelick's opportunity at the MLB level. He has done everything and more in his 2022 Minor League season and I'm just not sure what more there is to prove. If the plan is to wait for 2023, the Sounds will consider themselves extremely lucky to have him for a hopeful playoff push. 2) A big tip of the cap is in order for RHP Robbie Baker . It's hard to fathom he made his Triple-A debut tonight considering where his stuff was at earlier in the year in High-A Wisconsin. This being said, and I alluded to it in a couple earlier season reports, the stuff is there to succeed at a higher clip. He pitches with violence and a clear competitiveness. He's an absolute gamer. Aside from a lead-off home run blast over the wall in right field he picked it up, as did the gloves around him, and he turned in a successful first outing. As an everyday fan of the Brewers Minor Leagues, it was a proud moment for me to see him make his debut. 3) I rarely ever question Triple-A legendary manager Rick Sweet and his incredible staff but one has to wonder what the thinking was in the bottom half of the eighth inning. RHP Luis Contreras was left in to face multiple lefty bats when Small was clearly available in the bullpen. Contreras gave up a walk, a shift-beating single, and another single before he was pulled for Small...who faced a righty. It may not have meant anything in the end, there was likely a rationale beyond my scope, but it certainly didn't work out. That was the game right there. And, well, sometimes you just take the frustrating loss and move on to the next. Tonight was that kind of night. I am putting full faith in another quality start from AAAA stalwart, RHP Josh Lindbolm . Constantly under the radar. Constantly overlooked. Almost always showing up and shutting it down. Let's knock that magic number down a notch tomorrow. Lindbolm is our man. Small's season just doesn't get better, sadly. He goes 0-2 but gives up a deep blast off the wall in left field - if it weren't for a fantastic relay play Frelick-to-Devanney-to-Feliciano the damage would have been worse. On the next pitch, to a lefty, he gives up a roped single up the middle. It is now 10-5 Bats. This one was ugly early and it's ugly late. That missed 8th inning opportunity might not have mattered.
-
Contreras gives up consecutive full count singles through the gap between Singleton and Turang. One might ask why manager Rick Sweet didn't just start this inning with Ethan Small given he's coming on now and Contreras faced many a lefty in his abbreviated stint. Men on the corners. One down. 8-5 Bats now. This game has the feeling of a reverse image of last night's contest.

Ruh Roh, RHP Tyler Herb has sunk back into his Triple-A funk his past few outings. He's been either extremely good or roughed up in Nashville - let's get him back on the extremely good streak. He gives up 8 H, 6 ER, 2 HR in just 4 IP. Not the start we were looking for. Sounds trail 6-2 here in the 6th inning. Those pesky pesky Louisville Bats never give the Sounds an easy game it seems.

Let’s go, Sounds! I have enjoyed this team so much in 2022. In a Minor League season filled with unexpected highlights and joys, the highlight of the Brewers organization in 2022 is the constant and routine output from this team, imho. I can literally only recall a small handful of games that left me ‘disappointed’. I am here for this team’s playoff push and, hopefully by the graces of the baseball gods, thier post-season successes.

I am at the same point of reflection on Sal Frelick’s overall impact as I was way back on Michael Harris II’s impact when he played and dominated for the Double-A Mississippi Braves. Simply put: Frelick has done more than enough to demonstrate he could have legitimate real impact at the MLB level. Harris II routinely did the same - it was uber-apparent every time the Shuckers faced him, he was a game wrecker. In every aspect of the term. There obviously isn’t a causal relationship here (there never is) but given the success we’ve seen for the Atlanta Braves with both Michael Harris II and more recently call-up, Vaughn Grissom (who I also saw in his brief Mississippi Braves tenure), it begs to ask the question: In a season where the Brewers have been lauded for their ‘faster promotions than their historical status quo’ efforts, it certainly is a worthwhile consideration to propose “Is it fast enough?” There are many factors to consider here, and just maybe the team sees that this squad is better served to punt meaningful promotions until 2023 and beyond (especially given the ongoing key pitching injuries and Houser’s ugly season all things considered), but it is certainly worth looking at the recent successes and turnarounds we’ve witnessed in the World Series Champs organization. Their aggressiveness and willingness to Buck the status quo is appearing to serve them yet again. Meanwhile, I struggle to make sense of what exactly it is the Brewers are trying to accomplish in 2022. I maintain this position even if they manage to defy the odds and make the Playoffs. Anyhow, go Sounds!

Mon. 9/19 - And Then There Was One
Joseph Zarr replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
The Sounds did underperform and get spanked around some in Charlotte two series ago. Any series can bring problems. I would like to think you are correct but, regardless of record, Louisville tends to give the Sounds fits. Thankfully, Columbus is playing the Mud Hens - if the Sounds take care of business like they can (and arguably should) they ‘should’ wash each other out with both having significant things to play for. Toledo has been on a tear and now only trail Columbus by a 0.5 game and the Sounds by 5. -
Game 2: Bears @ Packers - Sunday, September 18th 7:20 CT
Joseph Zarr replied to HarryDoyle's topic in Other Sports
Given the Ravens were up 28-3 at half and lost. And Oakland was leading Arizona 20-0 and lost....I'm going to play this conservative. I will say, however, THIS is the team I signed up for in 2022. I sure hope they can keep this up in some form and fashion throughout the season. Great blend of plays in the first half. Defense tightened way the heck up. Good stuff. -
Sun. 9/18 - Shuckers Say Goodbye to 2022
Joseph Zarr replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Biloxi can't win out to end the season but what a run, regardless. The storyline of today's game 'should' read: Tristen Lutz finds a homer just as his season closes and LHP Clayton Andrews goes 2 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 HB, 5 K. That's what I'm talking about. Leave us wanting more, Mr. Andrews!
