  1. Gasser has given up two solo jacks in a now 2-2 game in Biloxi here in the 5th inning. He appears to be dealing otherwise with 7 K's now through 4 2/3. AND, it would also appear Tristen Lutz was driven from this game in the 3rd inning when he was hit by a pitch. Ugh. No more injuries, please! Scratch that. That's now 8 K's for Gasser through 5 IP. Man, I love this young man's game. He is really really good. If you get a chance to watch him pitch, I highly recommend it.
  2. OF Luis Castillo misses a solo HR jack by about 3' high off the wall in right field - that's now two absolutely crushed balls that missed HR distance by a combined 10' between Fernandez and Castillo. And, he gets stranded. On to the bottom of the 4th inning and it's still 2-1 Mudcats.
  3. Man, this ump is a trainwreck in Kannapolis. He has no consistency in his strikezone. Absolutely worked over Woessner and De La Cruz and now calls a strike 3 on Hendry Mendez on a ball at his letters and about 6-9" outside. He was not thrilled.
  4. Uh oh, Woessner just took a hard-hit comebacker off his pitching arm/hand? It's hard to tell. The trainer came out and gave skpipper Victor Estevez the 'no go' sign. Man, I sure as heck hope he's OK! He simply lost control this inning. He was trying to find and work the outside of the zone and couldn't locate it. Let's hope it's just a bruise. No bueno!!!! One run crossed as the ball died in the dirt with no play to be had. 2-1 Carolina. LHP Leoni De La Cruz will come in for the cover.
  5. The strike zone is tightening up for Woessner here in the 2nd inning. After a couple wild pitches sent the lone base runner to 3rd base, Woessner has now walked two in a row to load the bases. 2 down. Mudcats clinging to a 2-0 lead.
  6. RHP Dylan File's turn to hang a breaking ball dead center. LOL. He just gave up a 2-run shot to right field just beyond the wall-scaling attempt from Joey Wiemer in right field. He gave Garrett Mitchell the "I missed it by an inch!" gesture as he laid on the grass after the failed but valiant attempt. 5-2 Sounds now.
  7. When he lets it rip he definitely has a cannon. He's tossed a couple darts up there that gave me pause.
  8. RUH ROH! Joey Bombs is back baby. Just absolutely crushed a hanging breaking ball to dead left center. That's his 2nd HR of the series. You LOVE to see this surge. It was a solo jack. 5-0 Sounds.
  9. OF Edquarqui Fernandez is starting to feel it at the plate. He missed a HR by roughly 6' off the wall in dead center. He settles for a stand-up triple scoring OF Luis Castillo who had singled up the middle himself. Areinamo knocks a base hit to right field and it's 2-0. This is how you get your new starting pitcher some more comfort!
  10. Woessner closes out a scoreless first with a fairly nasty strikeout pitch on Kannapolis' dangerous DH. He worked primarily fastball in his first two AB's. In the third, he really mixed in a change-up and some breaking stuff with nice impact. Solid first inning.
  11. Carolina taking their batters box here in the top of the 1st in Kannapolis. I'll report on Woessner shortly. Excited to see this young man toss it!
  12. Have you seen how he's swung the bat in Durham? Not that surprising at all considering. He's been on an absolute tear.
  13. Tonight's outing has a little bit of a 'make or break' feel for struggling RHP Israel Puello. Can he keep his walks down? Can he throw strikes? Can he recover from a prolonged period of rough outings? I'm rooting for this young man to find that fine form of his first few starts. We know it's in there. Can he find it?
  14. Color me extremely excited to check in on Mr. Woessner. They've got some pitching riches, suddenly, with the influx of Woessner; Wagoner; and Logan Henderson. Exciting stuff. As Rodriguez, Cruz, and Cornielle head North, we see exciting new developments down South.
  15. Nope, the only two-way player currently in the system is one Quinton Low. Andrews is strictly a pitcher now.

  17. Currently cloudy skies in Biloxi with a 'chance' of random showers or thunderstorms. It's looking like they may even (audible gasp) get a chance to play some Double-A baseball.
  18. Very salient points! Lots for teams to consider and potentially a changing landscape given the new parameters.

  20. Entirely agreed. Hanson is actually quite good at Center from the limited amount of snaps we've seen.
  21. Just glad the pre-season is over. Really really glad. Let the roster finalizing begin!
  22. My counterpoint to Castaneda is the development and work we might see from lefty Clayton Andrews -@ARobsBrewCrewalludes to above (I very nearly included him in my comment above - he's still very young, he's a lefty, and he's shown solid success across all levels before injuries derailed his initial Triple-A bid.). Will they use this final 3-4 weeks to help inform this decision now that Andrews is in Biloxi (if the weather even allows them to play a game, that is)? I'm unsure, but it is probably a consideration especially given what ARob is telling us. Given Cam Devanney can fill in quite well at 3B and is just a really good defender, I'd have to consider given his maturation and development at the plate in 2022 and his improving frame and body he'd have to be a serious consideration as well. It will be interesting to see what happens - that much is certain.

  24. Jonathan Aranda has been having some kind of season in that International League. He lost his hitting streak two nights agp, but he's still leading the entire League hitting in the 0.320's with fantastic run production to boot - he's currently the toughest out across both divisions. Durham has two high-quality lefty bats in that line-up in Aranda and Josh Lowe. They're a fun team to watch swing the bat.
