  1. What we can say, regardless, is we haven't seen the same pre-injury version of Victor Castaneda since his IL return. Hopefully, he can find that previous dominant form.
  2. Let's get some feel good Caleb Boushley work and impeccable Nashville Sounds bullpen shutdown to help but some bandaids on rough bullpen work all around Low-A to High-A. We're 0-3 so far, but Nashville can give us a 6-0 sweep in Columbus (currently leading 1-0) and Biloxi can still salvage a split today.
  3. I call a Sunday Mulligan. Let's press the ol' Nintendo reset button and start it over again from the Top. Asterisks all around today's output and results!
  4. They went with Vennaro over Cam Robinson? And, well, fell in classic Shuckers fashion? Color me, um, not shocked. Ugh.?
  5. Do I trade Tyler Black for a rental of Josh Bell? We’ve got a big man down in Nashville with a heck of a glove, power, and an incredible ability to get on base. ? I know that won’t impress or invigorate a lot of fans, but, I also really love me some Tyler Black. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: He has MLB player written all up in his game. Now, thinking ‘inside the Box’, a trade centered on selling Jakson Reetz back to Washington? Now, that makes me giggle a lil bit.
  6. How about an ACL Brewers Blue 17-2 'W' over their friends and teammates on the ACL Brewers Gold?! My goodness. Can't wait to dive into that Box ?
  7. The Shuckers game was called as suspended in the top of the 10th with men on 1st and 2nd and two down for the Shuckers. They led 6-4 on the heels of this Thomas Dillard knock deep off the glove and wall (hard to tell which was first, honestly) to score Wiemer from 2nd and a speeding Andruw Monasterio (now a short-term Double-A legend in his brief stint if we're being honest - he's been unreal) who slides in beating a dropped tag on a backhand grab: Hopefully, the rain suspension allows the Shuckers to toss a certain Cam Robinson in for his first shot at a Double-A Save when play resumes!
  8. Prolonged slump be damned, he says: still making impact 1-for-5 night, 3 k's, 1 run - 11th OF assist.
  9. Tyler Herb with yet another fantastic Sounds performance from a Starter in the Columbus series. I said it in yesterday's GT, but the Sounds pitching staff has challenged the Clippers International League leading offense and simply shut them down for 5 consecutive games in their ball park. They've broken open a Division lead that was 1.5 games coming in to a 6.5 game lead. Tyler goes 6 complete: 1 earned run, 6 k's, 4 hits, 1 bb - the lone run a solo shot. In this week's interview series with Jeff Hem, Tyler talked about getting back to attacking hitters more - he felt, for whatever reason, he got away from challenging hitters with his best stuff. It sure looks like he did so tonight. Fantastic work! How about the start to July for Jon Singleton and Brice Turang? Glorious stuff from our League leaders in Nashville. Brice came in to Columbus on a month long XB drought. He has a triple, two doubles (if memory serves), and now a HR in a pivotal road series at the number 2 ball club's stadium. You. Just. Love. To. See. It! In closing: 8 W's in a row. Have. Not. Trailed in Columbus...who had just railed on the Cubs in Iowa to a tune of a 5-1 series victory. Put it in my veins. Wooooo Hooooo!
  10. A six-run 2nd inning has the T-Rats leading 7-1 early. Let’s Go, fellas! Meanwhile, the Mudcats are knotted 1-1.
  11. Turang, Dahl, and Singleton all have solo Johnson’s in Columbus. Sounds lead 3-1 in the 3rd.
  12. Joey Wiemer hit a dub (his 18th)! Yay! Frelick is 2-for-2. Devanney just smacked his 12th ding Dong. Shuckers lead 4-0 in the top of the 4th. Go Shuckers!
  13. Of all the thoughts racing through his mind after that glorious Start in April of 2004, I can nearly guarantee you one was not: "I'm going to be a railroad engineer!". Life has such a fascinating way of taking you on a journey - Minor League ball players live this on a near daily basis. Saenz's story is another in a long line of: It's really really hard to make it to the Big Dance. And, it's even harder to make it back. And, it's hardest to stay. Thank you for sharing this one @reillymcshane.
  14. We wish Scotty all the best in his next endeavors. And, a huge congratulations are in order for making it back to the mound and giving it his all for a last stint on the Hill. Leaving the sport you've dedicated your life to is never easy - especially when you are still clearly on the development track but dealing with possible ongoing and lingering injury issues.
  15. Well, manager Rick Sweet mentioned in an interview with Jeff Hem Corey Ray was dealing with a day-to-day thing. Today, he was officially placed on the 7-Day IL.
  16. I agree with you on Joey Wiemer, Jim. It's hard to fathom the current ongoing slump and precipitous decline in production at the plate. It's important to note, of course, he's still routinely making plays in the outfield but...I remember when he first returned from the mysterious non-disclosed hand/thumb injury, he crushed a solo HR off prized Marlins' Ace Eury Perez (also in Futures Game) - a line drive rope over the wall in left center. I thought to myself: OK, maybe this brief stint on the shelf was mysterious but he seems to be back. And, well, here we are amidst 3-for-42. When his slump was well underway, I noted in a report: he was pressing at the plate. He took an already aggressive swing and was clearly over-aggressive - as if trying to force his way out of a prolonged stretch of ineffective AB's. I personally don't see any visible issues with his hand/thumb. What I see is a player who has lost confidence, is pressing much too hard, and has frankly lost himself at the dish. Hopefully, he can reclaim that incredible form we saw for essentially near 1.5 years. For now, tho, it would certainly appear he is in the doldrums.
  17. It isn’t often your most productive catcher/DH also gets spot duty in left field. In 10 games of spot duty, he has a 1.000 FPCT. What I have been saying since May is: he is an incredibly underrated athlete. Kudos to the Brewers for signing what is clearly a major asset in 2022. In recent memory recall, of the two catching promotions to Triple-A in 2022 the Sounds promoted very little-used Nick Kahle for a two game stint and Brent Diaz - who is having quite a nice year himself and in my eyes remains a solid catching prospect. Diaz remains with the Sounds in Columbus and, in the games I watched, clearly has a comfort-level with the Sounds staff from his brief early-season time there in 2021. All this to say: it’s very unclear as to what the Brewers plans are with Jakson. What is clear: his 2022 season is truly unbelievably good.
  18. Abraham Almonte stays hot with his 11th Jack and 4 RBI’s and Jon Singleton cracks his 12th Johnson and stays hot as well - BA now at 0.203 and OPS North of 0.800 after a 2-for-4 evening. The Sounds are truly something else at present. They began this series in Columbus a mere 1.5 games ahead the Guardians affiliate. The Clippers were well ahead the entire International League in runs scored and we’re coming off a 5-1 road series themselves at the Iowa Cubbies. The Sounds pitching, however simply said: “That’s great, we don’t really care.” That’s now 4 wins in a row to start the 6-game tilt conceding a mere 2.50 runs per contest! The Sounds are now 21 games over 0.500. Sheeesh.
  19. Also: Free Schaumberg’s finest Ryan Middendorf. Another multiple inning scoreless relief outing (3 2/3 ip, 0er, 3 hit, 0 bb, 4 k’s) Let’s go ahead and promote Vassalotti and get the 24 yo into Low-A already.
  20. He’s been great in the ACL. My only relative reluctance, at present, was I watched him in High-A every game he was there: He was overmatched. This being said, no terribly so and he has the physical profile - he’s definitely leading the next tier behind Taylor Black and Valerio for me. Ie, I already have him past Gabe Holt. He’s definitely in that top group, however, of young up and comers amongst DSL/ACL/Carolina guys. My long winded way of saying: I agree with you.?
  21. Thanks for the Update! Abraham playing is great news for Nashville. Big Jon stays hot. Russ Smith continues to deal. Reetz with another Johnson? Fabulous. Just wonderful.
  22. If you're looking for a Minor League fix this evening outside the games, check out the interviews Jim posted over HERE. I can't recommend Tyler Herb's interview enough. He's just a fantastic conversationalist - he's open, honest, and has a wealth of Affiliated experience (to boot, other than a recent scuffling on the mound, he's had a fantastic year). One of my favorite Free Agent signings of 2021. At age 30, he is still learning and improving. Great stuff.
  23. Listening to the above recent Jeff Hem interviews I learned Jon Singleton squats five days a week. Good gracious. We call him 'Big Jon' for a reason, folks. Corey Ray is dealing with another nagging day-to-day injury. Tyler Herb was a great interview - it's been a real joy watching him grow and pitch this year. Yes, even at age 30, he is still maturing and growing as a pitcher. He gives a very good interview - he's open, eloquent, experienced. His interview was a real pleasure.
  24. I had been wondering about Corey Ray of late as he had been absent since a recent hot streak - standing as the 1B coach on most evenings. Apparently, he's dealing with a Day-to-Day thing. Hopefully he gets on the mend as that was far and away his best stretch of baseball.
