  1. Mudcats are delayed here early. We'll see what comes of it. Nashville went 3-up and 3-down.
  2. Down 7-0 headed to the top of the seventh frame, the ACL Brewers Blue have managed to make a game of it. They plated 2 in the top of the same 7th and managed 3 more in the top of the 8th. It's now 7-5 ACL Royals here as they take the plate in the bottom of the 8th.
  3. And it's not to be as Giants reliever Yoniel Ramirez comes on in that tight spot and strikes out both Areinamo and Gregory Barrios to end the threat. Still 11-8 Giants headed to the 8th.
  4. Jadher Areinamo comes to the dish with the bases juiced and one down as the Brewers Gold trail 11-8 here in the bottom of the seventh. They had led 8-7 but the Giants Orange plated four in the top half off of RHP Fraudy Maldonado. Areinamo is already 3-for-4 on the day so let's hope he can muster another hit and make this a really excellent day at the plate!
  5. I know the Shuckers were pretty much swept off the field the last time they played a series in Montgomery - and, obviously, I'm hoping they can get some type of continued positive momentum going in Biloxi - but, if there's a better logo face-off in the Minor Leagues I certainly don't know who, what, and where that is: It's glorious gull dern it. Glorious! Delicious, even!
  6. That's a really interesting point and thanks for bringing it up. It'd be interesting to know if this is a comfort decision with staying in a Spanish speaking country? A development decision? Are there plans to elevate him this season or next season? We'll just have to keep tabs on him. Regardless, he's dominancing and that is a good thing. A couple things to add now that I've stepped away for a minute and gave some thoughts to this: (1) Didn't he go to the 60 Day IL upon his club selection in early July of 2021. (2) He was used primarily in a 2-3 inning role off of that stint (3) In 2022, we're seeing the organization stretch him out into a starter capacity stretch of innings pretty much each outing This could simply be something like: Stretch him out in 2022. Bring him stateside 2023 to Carolina.
  7. The great thing with Big Jon is all you have to do is take one look at his OPS and know he's been impacting the game and the pitch counts all season long. What you don't see is his defense - he's really quite an athletic guy with a sweet glove. He had a prolonged slump in terms of hits but he's certainly turning a corner recently. He's not even at 0.200 yet and his OPS is approaching 0.800 (currently, 0.784). He has a 62:80 bb:k line. So glad he's in that 1B/DH rotation in Nashville. On May 22nd, he was batting 0.224. It was a painful month-long crawl down to 0.163 for him. BUT, here he is with two hot days at the plate and he's creeping back toward 0.200. In other words, he's working back toward his career norms as he leaves the halfway point. In 3,272 Minor League AB's Jon has told us he's essentially a 0.250 hitter with a 0.825 OPS. That's a damn good Minor League player. And, I've said it before: I wouldn't flinch twice to use him in Milwaukee. He can handle his business and he'd be a welcome addition.

  9. 19 yo INF/OF/DH (6 games at 1B) Venezuelan Yeison Perez returns to the DSL Brewers 2 today after a 13 day line-up absence and he picks up right where he left off. Heading into the bottom of the 8th where he’ll most likely see a fourth AB, Yeison is 2-for-3 with his 6th HR (his 6th in 43 AB’s!!). His BA up to 0.419, a 1.457 OPS and 15 RBI’s! Turning heads!
  10. 19 yo RHP Kevin Briceno is quickly turning in to a prospect to really keep tabs on. After today’s 6 2/3 innings of one hit, two walk, 6 K ball he’s now pitched 25 innings of 27:3 k:bb. That’s zesty!
  11. I’m SO excite! Me thinks you are right on Michele who has been fantastic in his move to the bullpen - dominant again tonight. I would also add the couple of players we chatted about yesterday in the GT and Jim today in the Minor League Report could be heading to o Carolina sooner than later - two 24 yo ACL players who could be on an accelerated path. From Jim’s report: “The two most impressive pitching performances were from a couple of 24-year-olds who got late starts in affiliated ball - recent independent league signee RHP Ryan Middendorf who has been nearly perfect in his five appearances (0.55 WHIP, 0.00 ERA), and second-year Dominican signing LHP Leoni De La Cruz.”
  12. And, back in the greater discussion of who I will now refer to as the ‘Biloxi See-Saws’ - they yet again approach the distinct possibility of dipping back below 0.500. In the top of the ninth, after 3 scoreless innings of 7k ball Carlos Luna has begun unraveling slightly with a lead-off single, double, to two-run single to open the ninth.7-3 Braves now. Joey Wiemer is 0-for-4 with 2 more k’s. His toughest stretch at the plate in quite some time.
  13. This just in: Jakson Reetz Is now entering serious consideration for Brewers Minor League Player of the Year status. What he is doing in Biloxi is now approaching Spaceballs levels of Ludicrous. At this point, it is quite clear he and Jackson Chourio are in a tier by themselves. Lotta ballgames left but it is deserving of mention as he’s literally done it ALL season long to date. And, he’s done it as a late 2021 Minor League FA signing. Legendary stuff. Joey Wiemer’s prolonged slump off the mysterious hand/thumb injury awhile back has most likely pushed him in the next tier of players at the halfway point. Anywho, fun to briefly mention.
  14. Fear not, Eduardo Garcia just doubled home (his 13th of the season) Jackson Chourio to tie it up at 3-3 in the bottom of the 8th. Mudcats have a man on 3rd base w 2 down and Jean Carmona at the dish…who grounds out to first on his second pitch. On to the ninth we go!
  15. Not to be forgotten is the game-tying 18th double to extend his hitting streak to 10 games from Zavier Warren. This just in: Zavier is a very good baseball player.
  16. Back-to-back Jacks from Ashton McGee and Antonio Pinero. These balls were hammered. My goodness. That’s two absolute bombs from McGee in this series.
  17. Was there ever a doubt Cam Robinson wouldn’t shut this one down?!? Sheeeesh, repent ye doubters. He completes the final 2 innings for his third win (3-1 on the season with a couple Saves in there for good measure). He ends the game with a swing and a whiffff. T-Rats win 5-4. An incredible series and an incredible bullpen performance!
  18. Zach Mort continues to get roughed up by the Kernels in his second start of the week. Through 3, he has conceded 7 hits and 3 walks (1 hr). It’s now 4-4 as the T-Rats have the bases juiced and 2 down with Tyler Black looking to do some damage.
  19. Ashton is definitely swinging a better bat of late - his 475’ 108mph bomb the other night indicative of that. I would imagine, and maybe I’m wrong, he’s going to stay in High-A to recuperate that confidence and get his swing comfortable again. He discussed his struggles in the early season in a post-game pod this week. He has familiarity with Joe Ayrault from his days in Zebulon. I’m going 60/40 he stays to try and close out his season on a high note. I love the versatility he and Cam Devanney offer on the left-half of the infield. Ashton has been playing a decent 1B too this Kernels series.
  20. I still remember that early season and daily joy from 1B Ernesto Martinez. Hopefully, we’ll get him back sometime before season’s end. Here’s wishing all the best in healing and recovery for all our young prospects.
  21. Hendry Mendez In the lead-off spot has been an awesome development of late. We forget, at least sometimes I do, he’s only a wee bit older than Chourio. Of all rostered Mudcats, Mendez hits it to the opposite field with savvy well beyond his years.

  23. That's a huge moment and a huge result for Miguel Guerrero. You gotta love it. T-Rats now 7-1 in the second half. Gimme a lil 'Woot Woot'! Also, Jon Singelton just continues to defy the doubters. I love that he's getting some decent success at the dish of late. His OPS tells you the story regardless of cherry picking his BA. He's been fantastic for the most part this season - defensively, walks, professional approach, and now some more offense - other than the slump to end his first half stretch after Jacksonville.
  24. Look sat Nashville Box...has one thought: "Thank the Nashville baseball gods for Andy Otero!" He has been unreal since his call-up and tonight is no different as he covers for the rough 1 1/3 inning outing from newly acquired RHP Marcus Walden (apparently doing his best Noah Zavolas impersonation?). So far 4 scoreless innings of 3 hit, 3 k ball for Andy. Let's hope he can keep it going! 8-8 score with 2 down in the top of the 6th.
  25. The Rattlers have tied it up here in the bottom half of the eighth off the bat of Tyler Black (rbi dub) and Darrien Miller (shallow pop fly Anthony Pinero beat on a daring take-off). With one down after the sac fly, Black advanced to third on a Joe Gray Jr. groundout to short and Tristan Peters pulled a weak grounder to 2B on an 0-2 count. The score remains tied at 6 heading to the ninth!
