  1. Oh no! And just like that, Jakob give up a 2-out, 0-1, 3-run Jack. Mudcats now trail 10-2. This is like the way back machine to Brustoski’s first games in April. His era is now back above 15 ( yikes!) and he ran a 3-1 count on the final batter of the third before getting the merciful ground out.?
  2. In true 2022 Jakob Brustoski fashion, he came on in relief of Brannon Jordan here in the top of the third inning…and, struck the first guy in a full count out and threw a run-scoring wild pitch to the next batter. Gave up a single to the next. Advanced him on a wild pitch. Threw a four-pitch walk to the Batter. Nothing comes easy for Jakob in 2022. In any given AB, it consistently seems, he could strike you out on three blazing heaters, walk you on four, hit you, or throw a wild pitch.
  3. What was even stranger about that five run first is Jefferson Quero threw out the inning leading runner trying to steal second base. He reached via, ummm(checks game notes), walk. Jheremy Vargas also threw a runner out at home! I guess the earlier Vargas, Eduardo Garcia and Jesus Chirinos errors (gulp), combined with the two-run triple and three walks were so frustrating for Figueroa he threw a run-scoring wild pitch to the backstop. Yup. One of those first innings ?
  4. Wes Clarke ladies and gentlemen. Have a ball game, young man! Wes has been Mr. Dependable all year for the T-Rats. Healthy. Manning the C, 1B, and DH positions in a pinch. Wonderful to see a 2-HR, 6 rbi night - including the ninth inning Grand Salami.
  5. Best of luck all. Let’s get a much needed ‘W’! I’m in wedding prep and build mode on farm out this way so I’ll be in and out in brief stints. May my absence ensure victories
  6. @Brewcrew82: more Jonny Davis love above. Come one and come all to celebrating the incredible season of this 2021 FA signing AAAA vet. Jonny has been nothing short of remarkable since his return from a bout with COVID. He’s a proverbial spark plug.

  8. Re: Will Sammon’s article (linked above). It was really great to read on the organization’s thoughts on Lucas Erceg. I watched his relief appearance on the MiLB.TV replay and have watched him all season long. He had definitely fared well as of late and dominated that sole Nashville outing. He routinely touched 97-99 on the radar gun in Biloxi it was (and is) a matter of control and fine-tuning his pitching mix. Additionally, it’s very nice to read the mini buzz and coverage of Victor Castaneda. I continue to love Will’s stuff. Worth the subscription, folks.

  10. I’ve been touting Devanney, and I’m being serious, since the first series when he came on in place of the suddenly injured Ashton McGee. His defense and his arm was so consistently impactful. He played quite a bit of 3B earlier before the arrival of Coca (if memory serves). He had several stints with improved plate appearances but what we’re currently seeing might legitimately be a breakout moment for a young talented prospect. It’s why I personally suggested Seth try and get an interview with Cam for his ‘Three Questions’ series. Keep giving those props @ClosetBrewerFan!
  11. Do not forget 'The Walk King', Thomas Dillard. Southern League Leader in that department. If he even gets remotely hot here in the next couple months that OPS will sky-rocket. As is, with his 0.206 BA he's still sitting at a 0.720 OPS. I believe, after tonight, that's 41 walks on the season (too lazy to look up and headed to bed?). Offensively, of late, we've even seen timely contributions from Yeison Coca and Terence Doston. If their pitching hadn't experienced such a downturn in recent weeks, they would have turned that corner toward above 0.500 respectability. Having Hasler and Vennarro back, in the very least, should help solidify those key later innings. They'll need that version of Brandon Knarr and a step from TJ Shook and a return to 2021 form for Noah Zavolas to settle that starting staff. Knarr was lights out in his debut. Anywho, there is plenty of reason for optimism. Hopefully, it pans out.
  12. The T-Rats took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth in Beloit, but James Meeker was taken off the hill after giving up a run on a walk, single, and single. Joey Matulovich is given the unenviable task of inheriting two on with none down. He proceeds to walk a batter, gives up a sac fly, and just struck out the next batter for out number two. Tense moments as our High-A men look to tack another victory onto last night's. AND, we're on to extras. He gets the fly out to right field. Best of luck, Rattlers! Zavier Warren will start the 10th inning on 2nd base.
  13. Caleb Boushley continues his recent string of fantastic starts. Six complete innings (so far) of no run, 3 K, 3 BB, 5 hit ball. Sounds look to end their recent losing streak and lead 7-0 after a four-spot here in the bottom of the sixth. It's on to the seventh as Weston Wilson just flew out to right field.
  14. Welcome back to "I am still an elite prospect in case you forgot..." Felix Valerio! Two homers on the evening, including a 3 run 2 out bomb in the 6th inning. Biloxi takes the precarious (given recent, um, tendencies) 11-10 lead here in the top of the 8th. Keep those fingers crossed, folks.
  15. A vintage 2022 Jakob Brustoski relief inning here in the 8th for the Mudcats: Batter 1: Walk on 5 pitches Batter 2: Strikeout on 4 pitches Batter 3: Walk on 5 pitches Batter 4: One ball, hit by pitch Batter 5: Strikeout on 3 pitches Batter 6: Full count, strikeout on 6 pitches This one's for you, Jakob. Keep working!
  16. Well, nevermind that. On the very next pitch, Carlos rips a pitch way outside as Sibrian was asking for and expecting high and middle. The ball goes to the backstop and it's now 3-1 Pelicans. Wooof.
  17. He gets a very deep fly out to the CF wall (Jackson Chourio takes a wonderful angle to get there as the ball was roped) but then walks his third in the inning. Men are now up in the bullpen. And, just like that, he moves the runners over with a balk. This is the roughest patch I've seen from Rodriguez in some time. He can still get out of it with just the two-run blast.
  18. Carlos F. Rodriguez is losing a bit of his accuracy and control this inning as he's walked two. He had a hard time with this as well in the first inning. One down (a strikeout) he just walked a man aboard. He's looking quite frustrated on the hill.
  19. Here in the top of the fourth inning, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans' first hit is a two-run blast over the low wall in right field. The Mudcats now trail 2-1.
  20. Rough stretch indeed. Rough stretch in Nashville since traveling to Durham. Rough stretch for Biloxi - repeated bullpen giveaways and one-run losses. It. Is. Time. Let's turn it around. It's a marathon and not a sprint. It's time to replenish and run a nice leg here to close out June. It just takes one game to turn things around. Keep the faith. The coaches are too good. The players have the talent. Stay the course.
