  1. I have to give them a minimum of B- on the offseason simply for the Contreras deal. Remove that single deal and I have a hard time giving them better than a D grade. Some of their moves weren't bad but it was a lot of shuffling players around without seeing a lot of gains in the process.
  2. But the Brewers did manage Burnes' workload in 2021, running a six man rotation for pretty much the entire season, which is why Burnes finished the season with 28 starts instead of 33-ish. Which is pretty much what I said the team should consider doing again in 2023 with the first comment in this article.
  3. We're talking about a pitcher who has zero 150 IP seasons in his professional career and has crossed 100 IP only three times. It's not exactly crazy-talk to wonder how the team plans to manage his workload.
  4. Yeah, that's basically how I'm envisioning it. If there's an off day, bump Ashby/whomever but keep Burnes and Woodruff on a six day schedule when it makes sense.
  5. With the acquisition of Miley, returning to a six-man rotation might be a viable option. I think that makes the most sense, at least through the first couple of months of the season.* *assuming it's even possible but with the Brewers having seven viable options, six may be healthy at any given moment
  6. Welcome to the site and great comment!
  7. I find that more of an indictment to how MVP ballots used to be cast than an endorsement of Fingers. The year he won MVP, Fingers had a WPA of 3.4. Mariano Rivera had a 4+ WPA five times in his career. Joe Nathan had a 4+ WPA three times in his career and cleared 5+ twice. Billy Wagner had a 5+ WPA season. Trevor Hoffman had two 5+ WPA seasons. Josh Hader had a 4.8 WPA season in 2021. MVP voters in the past simply weren't very good at discerning actual value provided on the field.
  8. This is what we just rolled out at Twins Daily. Give it a read and if you have thoughts how to adapt this format to AmFam, please share! https://twinsdaily.com/minnesota-twins-guides-resources/the-ultimate-fan-guide-to-target-field-r3/
  9. Ah, thank you. That was my fault. I breezed through the honorable mentions paragraph while editing because I had one foot out the door.
  10. There is always a section of the internet that wants a place like this to discuss a topic. It’s our core mission to provide that to those users, I just wish we didn’t have to spend so much effort keeping it that way.
  11. We'll definitely monitor the situation and if people start trolling with the reaction, it'll be removed. It's a fine line to walk. Most social communities have some way to "dissent" without lengthy commentary but if people can't resist abusing the feature, I won't hesitate to remove it. I wish people on the internet were capable of acting like grown-ass adults instead of middle schoolers.
  12. This is an oversimplification of the situation. Other sports have banned various defensive alignments multiple times. The NBA banned zone defense for a long time. In the NHL, for decades there were all sorts of rules involving players in the crease.
  13. After some input I received, I shuffled some of the reactions a little. The heart icon for Like has been replaced by a thumbs up. The heart icon has been moved to a new reaction, Love. The Confused reaction has been changed to a Disagree with a thumbs down icon. That feels less confrontational than other neutral or negative reactions. Please give your input on what you think of these, they're absolutely not set in stone.
  14. Could everyone answer two questions: What's your favorite pre-game food? What's your favorite in-game food? I know the food selection at AmFam isn't great but there has to be something some of you like. But also, why is the food selection so bad? I thought we were past that era of the baseball experience.
  15. That makes sense. Wong is a capable fielder, gets his feet under him, and makes clean throws. Saying his arm is the worst at the position is definitely an over-simplification, I just didn't realize it graded out that weakly in StatCast. Overall, I'm hoping the shift reduction brings second base back to relevance in the game a bit more. Obviously, we won't see a flood of slap-hitters return to the game but seeing more athleticism at the position is a welcome return.
  16. Outstanding research and analysis as always, Matt. I never even realized Wong's arm was that bad. I knew it wasn't good but woof.
  17. I don't think that's really fair. Sheets is second in Brewers history in bWAR and I'm pretty sure he's way ahead in fWAR. The caveat being that historically, the "best" career Brewers starters list is pretty woof.
  18. It's entirely possible it would take a massive guaranteed year. Maybe even that doesn't do it.
