  1. YoY trade deadline week saw a 220% increase in users and a 13:1 increase in registrations. Huge thanks to the community, you're awesome!

  2. And to be clear, I'm not even saying the front office failed at the deadline. I think they did some interesting stuff and gave them a C+ grade. But that's still only a C+... because they didn't find some way to get another bat on this roster.
  3. A great example of this is what the Twins have done (when relatively healthy). Baldelli has several good left-handed hitters (as do the Brewers) so he often intentionally stacks them in a row. He *dares* the opposing manager to pull in a LHP to face Luis Arraez or Max Kepler or Nick Gordon. Why? Because Baldelli has Kyle Garlick sitting on the bench most games, just waiting to unleash his .900-something OPS against LHP against any manager who tries to break up the lefties. A natural result of doing this is managers tend to NOT put in a LHP early, which in turn gives Baldelli the platoon advantage for his lefties longer into games. If a team is going to play platoon-happy - and I think it's the best strategy in modern baseball given the massive pitching advantage right now - the front office needs to give their manager proper platoon bats to exploit those matchups. And the Brewers front office didn't do that yesterday. I don't care WHO they acquired but they needed something to give Counsell the ability to more effectively manage his roster on a daily basis. Counsell is a really good manager, he's going to get something approaching the best out of his players most of the time if you give him the right tools to do it.
  4. I don't think the point is that Wong is better than Severino, the problem lies in using a backup catcher to pinch-hit for anyone in the middle of your lineup, ever. That speaks to depth, or the lack thereof.
  5. Okay, y'all, lots of movement this month... Added: all the draft picks! Removed: Antoine Kelly (good night, sweet prince) We'll set a deadline for submissions for 8/8 Monday evening, let's say 9pm.
  6. Well said. There HAD to be a hitter available somewhere that could make this team better without breaking open the farm system. To suggest this team is fine without one more decent bat and good on-base skills is trying to sell the fanbase a line.
  7. Well, that kind of went out with a whimper. As time passes, I like the Hader trade more. I think that will work out well in the long run, but... I expected some of those prospects to be used to flip for a bat. Stearns did a good job re-working the bullpen while bringing back prospects in the process but I'm pretty down on the lack of offense added to the roster. So what's your grade? Mine is C+. The front office got most of the job done and receives a passing grade but consider me underwhelmed.
  8. I don't mind this one bit, I'm just not a Gallo fan on this roster. He doesn't fill any of the roles that really interest me, though he'd be a small improvement in a platoon role.
  9. Per Passan (and I think Heyman):
  10. Okay, my dream scenario is now that the Padres deal for a bad contract and then pass it on to the Nationals.
  11. I agree that the biggest pitching weakness heading into the stretch has been the middle inning relief, which should be much better today than it was three days ago.
  12. I agree that BABIP is *supposed* to be around .300 but Rogers keeps getting killed by it in discrete seasons, three of them in a row. I'm not saying I entirely believe he's suddenly going to be a .350 BABIP pitcher but after watching him pitch for a long time and seeing this happen over and over again, I'm not ruling out the possibility, as flukish as it sounds given what we know about baseball.
  13. Well, this is weird. Ever seen this before? Padres: Eric, you're being traded to Washington. We just acquired Bell and Soto. Hosmer: I have a no trade clause. Padres: Well, ****. We hoped you wouldn't remember that. Please hold.
  14. Driving to and from Costco, I started thinking about this. Rogers has been blooped to death this season but that has happened before. In 2020, he had a .400 BABIP. This season it's .333 but over .400 over the past month or so. His walk and strikeout rate remain stable (aka. very good). On the other hand, Hader has stumbled in a similar fashion over the same period. While driving, I started asking myself "what chance is there that Rogers outperforms Hader?" I put the number at 25%, then bumped it down to 20%. Humorously enough, just minutes later I turned on the latest MKE Tailgate podcast and unsurprisingly (I tend to think similarly to those hosts a lot of the time), one of them commented that Rogers had a chance to outpitch Hader and put the number at 30-40%. Personally, I think that's too optimistic because of Rogers' history of getting BABIPed. It's starting to become less data noise and weirdly more of an attribute he has. I'm not sure I've seen a good pitcher have a BABIP well over .300 three years running, even if all three were partial seasons. So what odds do you put at Rogers outpitching Hader?
  15. They're tooling up for next season, methinks.
  16. That will get the job done for what I need, thanks.
  17. Good point about needed a utility player if Peterson looks to be a long ways away. I *really* don't like the idea of Gallo because I think the Yankees are just going to ask way too much for him. They have no real need to move anybody unless it suits their needs. Maybe I'm wrong.
  18. Possibly. The ship has probably sailed on Lamet starting in MLB but I'm more interested in his recent bullpen appearances. If he's truly healthy again - far from a given for any pitcher, much less Lamet - he could be the 6th/7th inning piece the Brewers badly need right now. If he fills that role capably, I'll be quite satisfied.
  19. Yeesh. I've warmed up to the Hader trade a bit but I'm struggling to see how Kelly is worth Matt Bush.
  20. If this happens to anyone, screenshot it and send it to me with the page you found it. I’ll take a look and see what’s happening.
  21. First, I suspect Stearns feels he has shored up the bullpen with Lamet. Maybe he pursues another middling arm but nothing splashy. I can’t see the front office passing on acquiring a big(ish) bat… but which one? That I have no idea.
  22. The Brewers moved maybe $4m-ish of payroll off the books with the Hader trade. They acquired two pretty good prospects, one in the OF where they already have some intriguing guys in the minors. Some of the names are now off the board. So what are your predictions on what happens tomorrow before 5pm?
  23. Updating the prospect tracker this month should be fun!
