  1. While I understand the concern about the Brewers offense, team offense is a mess early this season. Here are a few things to keep in mind before deciding where this team will end up in October: 1. The Brewers have the 23rd OPS in baseball, the friggin' White Sox are 21st 2. The Twins are actually behind the Brewers at 25th in baseball 3. The New York Yankees have a .677 OPS It's fine to have some concern about where the Brewers end up - IMO, primarily centered around Adames and Yelich - but using statistics this early in the season is just chasing your own tail. The numbers we have on April 19th after a shortened spring will end up having very little correlation to the numbers we'll be looking at in August.
  2. I think the Brewers have a bit of an advantage in today's pitching matchup...
  3. The upside is that he is on track for far more extra base hits than he had in 2021. The downside is that his launch angle is barely higher than 2021, which explains why almost all his hits have gone for extra bases. If he's not elevating and driving the ball this season, he's hitting it just like he did in 2021, which is weakly and/or on the ground.
  4. The fact that he's both driving the ball and elevating it is promising. But it's still very early and I'm not confident in predicting what Yelich will look like in two weeks, much less two months.
  5. I believe part of the rule is that hitters are not to step out of the box and do all that garbage you just mentioned, at least not without calling time (which the ump may or may not grant).
  6. Never mind that he's way too freakin' old to be playing center at the level he does.
  7. Yelich had 19 doubles in 2021. He just hit his fourth double this season.
  8. Ugh, this offense needs to start pushing across more than one run in those kinds of innings.
  9. Baseball is 162 games. I don’t need 3.5 hours that many times in a calendar year. And the pitch clock has so many benefits: there’s more action with less downtime and we’ll see a decrease in velocity for the first time… ever, maybe? It takes so many elements about the modern game that aren’t great and minimizes them.
  10. Baseball America looked at the pitch clock implementation in the minors and... MLB cannot implement this rule quickly enough. This line is bonkers: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/new-rules-dramatically-sped-up-last-nights-milb-games/
  11. Eight runs would certainly wash some of the bad taste of the past two days out of our mouths.
  12. Oh man, how fun! And in a delightful accident, we published a Rob Deer retrospective just a few minutes ago!
  13. Man, I would have put Yelich in that spot but I can't complain about Tellez too much, either, he just didn't get it done.
  14. Cool it down a bit. Renfroe missed a pitch. Barry Bonds missed thousands of pitches in his career.
  15. Welcome to modern baseball, where pitchers don’t hit because god, why would we want pitchers to hit!?!?!?!
  16. Well, that certainly wasn't the outcome I expected from Caratini.
  17. He's a late-30s player who can still play CF, be around a league average starter (2-ish WAR in 2021), and is in the last year of a big contract. If you think that's a bad outcome, I can show you many other MLB contracts that are so much worse. It will be nice to have Cain off the books but he has been just fine for the Brewers considering his age and the contract.
  18. Concerns are different than conclusions. I don't believe I've ever pushed back on people having concerns about the Brewers offense.
  19. I no more worried than I was ten days ago but I've been concerned about Adames's ability to repeat anything close to his 2021 season since the 2021 season ended.
  20. MKE Tailgate is the best Brewers podcast I’ve found. It’s very good.
  21. Modern baseball thought is that you actually put your best hitter second in the lineup, not third. So I guess where you put Yelich is really dependent on how you view both Yelich and Adames.
