  1. Imagine being Nolan Arenado or Trevor Story and reading that $182m number for Bryant.
  2. Honest question: does anyone here understand anything the Rockies do? If yes, could you explain it to me?
  3. I was looking over his Baseball Savant page and the severe dip in OPS he's seen isn't really justified by the advanced metrics. It's unfortunate we don't see the pitch clock enforced this season, as I think players like McCutchen might benefit the most from pitchers being unable to go max effort on every pitch, given how his batting average has dropped from .280 to .220 in five seasons. Sure, he's getting older but that's a massive drop-off from a guy who still slugs at a respectable clip and has excellent plate discipline. His other stats haven't seen drastic movement, only that batting average.
  4. For sure. I’m glad to see it happen.
  5. The season starts April 7th.
  6. I had to put this somewhere. We should probably start a Bob Nightengale thread just to store all these treasures he gives the baseball world.
  7. Email is one thing I do not do well. I find it aggravating to navigate how to both send email from a server (I'm not a system admin, I'm a developer) and how to get said email through client filters so it doesn't end up in the junk bin (which it usually does anyway).
  8. Yeah, the site is designed mobile-first and that's just kinda the way we have to do things nowadays. The first day of this site, traffic was 60% desktop, 40% mobile. Literally the day after the redesign, it was 60% mobile, 40% desktop. Things flipped that quickly. Over at Twins Daily, we usually sit around 75% mobile, 25% desktop despite people browsing the forums all day long on their work computers. People just use their phones for this stuff now so we need to prioritize them. We try to make both usable and good but mobile is both harder to do well and the priority. In a perfect world, we'd develop an app... but I don't know how to write an app and I put the cost of doing so at probably about $50,000 to do it right. Whereas I'm a web developer and do most of the coding for the site myself, which is what makes this project possible.
  9. Unfortunately, some of the old avatars didn't port over. The install of phpBB was so ancient that the conversion software didn't know what to do with the information so it dumped it. But uploading a new avatar is dirt simple. Click on your own "P" temp avatar, then click on the small image icon next to that avatar on your profile to upload a new avatar.
  10. I’ve watched many teams try to stash someone at first to get their bat in the lineup. It works maybe half the time if I’m optimistic. First base isn’t an afterthought position. It’s probably the easiest position to become functionally literate at but it’s not an afterthought position. Having the footwork and ability to know when to move in at the ball versus retreat to first is a repetition skill that cannot be learned overnight.
  11. There was a time limit on edits. I saw your post and removed that editing time limit. I also fixed the white space in this post. Remember everybody, I'm here to support all of you doing the great work you do. If there's a problem of any kind, I'm one private message or tag @Brock Beauchamp away.
  12. Dark mode is on list of features coming, though it will be quite some time before we get there.
  13. Every time someone says this, I'm taken back to this delightful meme from a decade ago.
  14. A fine, if uninspiring, move... but they really need a bigger bat, too. Hard to be satisfied if this is all they have planned.
  15. McCutchen isn't a flashy signing at this point in his career but he could provide a solid platoon and/or roving positional bat with the DH in play now.
  16. GIFs are controversial. Some people love them, others hate them. If people feel strongly about it, I can probably create a profile toggle to hide all GIFs in post content. It's not something I'd get to right away but maybe some time during the season I'd be able to add something like that if people want it.
  17. Not really sure why the Braves did this instead of going for the feel-good move and retaining Freeman, but okay.
  18. Oh shoot, that default theme isn't supposed to be visible. ? But I can certainly get this working, I'll work on that in the coming days.

  20. There's a lot to take in here and the site will continue to evolve pretty rapidly as we add functionality and new sections of the site. If you have questions about how something works or suggestions how to make something easier/better, please share them here!
  21. Fixed, thank you for the heads-up!
  22. One of the key aspects of this new site is that it extends the concept of community beyond posts, threads, and forums. We have status updates, we have reactions, we have follower lists, we have much more of a social media model (without the trolling and general awfulness) but at the very core of our concept of community is our user blogs. Every user, once they register and post two pieces of content (comments, status updates, or threads) “graduate” to the Verified Member group, which opens up the ability to create your own blog. It only takes a few minutes to set up your blog space and from there, entering a blog is little different than writing a complex forum topic. You can easily drag-and-drop images, embed YouTube videos and tweets, paste tables into the content to support your point… in short, if you want to try your hand at writing long form, you can have a professional-looking blog entry in just a few minutes that will be read by hundreds of Brewers fans around the world. To encourage users to do this, we’re giving away FREE STUFF. Over the next few weeks, we’ll select some of the best-written and popular blog entries and give away prizes to those who wrote them. Here are examples of two of the prizes: An autographed Paul Molitor 1979 Topps card A vintage 1982 “World Champions” Brewers banner, somebody jumped the gun on printing these back in the day Are you interested in blogging? 23. Seems like a solid, low cost move. Hard to dislike it.
  24. It’s the only thing that makes sense, as the past 36 hours have been truly strange.
