    So, two things: 1. Mench is hitting .296 with RISP including 7BB and only 2SO! (thanks gamecast) 2. What on earth does the "jump" button do? I really want to push it, but with my ultra slow internet connection here on the ship it might just take me a half hour to get back into the game thread. Plus it intimidates me.

    Anyone care to elaborate on how Hart got to second on that fly out? I don't think we are being patient enough with Eaton. But it is early.

    They do this in San Diego, in save situations of course. After the bottom of the 8th has ended you will see Hoffman out there in the bullpen throwing one last pitch. Soon, all of the scoreboards will turn off, the lights will go out, and you will hear the bells (the intro to ACDC's "Hells Bells"). Awesome is the only word to describe it. Even if it is your team he's about to go up against, you can't help but appreciate the moment. I don't think anyone should attempt to copy that, but if he is going to be a fixture here (big "if") then maybe we should think of something.

    This is really the only pitching matchup that has me thinking we are doomed from the start. I didn't realize that Harang was having such a solid year. It can't be easy to get that many wins on such a bad team.

    Assuming Sheets DOES come back somewhat on time and is the same old Benny, then i say we ride the YoGa train until either A. He struggles mightily, or B. He hits his innings cap. We can't afford to give anything up right now. True, if we ration YoGa he will be able to pitch further into the season, but if we don't utilize perhaps the best pitcher on the team right now, there may not be much to play for later on anyway. Plus, i do trust Sheets much more in crunch time or in the playoffs than i would YoGa, so right as we get to that piont we can replace Sheets Lite with the real thing. Bottom Line: 1. YoGa gets every fifth start filling in for Ben. No spot starts, no skipping him. 2. No relief role, either. He was meant to be a starter so let's not mess with that. 3. When he does hit his limit, then use CV as a guy you can spot start when needed. He can still pitch from the pen, too. 4. Sheets comes back in the last month of the season and if we can hammer out all of our bullpen issues by either trade or just plain improvement, we'll be looking very good. Pitching-wise, that is. Now if only Bill Hall could make a good recovery and Weeks figured it all out.

    I just want you all to know that we can expect Ben back sooner than we thought. I sustained a finger injury tonight in a dodgeball match and it has been diagnosed as a strained finger on the throwing hand, possible tear. This happened while i was trying to catch a ball, not throw one. But there is no doubt about the fact that i have been chosen to take the burden off of Ben Sheets and endure his pain while he makes a fast recovery.

    So, what's this business about Wise being traded for Dunn? Rumor? Maybe Yost just wanted to use one pitcher the rest of the game and decided that since he trusts CV more as the 7th innning guy and would probably need him soon, he would go with the next long reliever to finish off the game. Since the usual guy (YoGa) was the starter, he went with Wise who used to be a starter.

    Does anyone else find the MLB.com gameday trajectory and pitch break stats extremely hard to believe? I mean, how is that even possible that they can come up with such an exact number in that short of time?

    'ski, i'm going to have to disagree with you there. With everyone healthy, this offense was built to do some damage. But Hall is down, and Rickie is in a huge slump which, IMHO, is due to that nagging wrist injury. That gives guys like Gross, Gwynn, Graffy, and Counsell extra starts they should never have. Then when the other starters need rest you have all four of those guys in there at once. And some days Miller is in there too! It's a good thing that the starting pitching is coming around.

    I would never EXPECT to take 3 of 4 from any good team. And i certainly wouldn't expect to sweep them. But a good outing by YoGa tomorrow and you can chalk up another great series.

    True, we haven't been winning by a whole lot of runs but that is due to our offense, not our pitching. Sheets being gone would affect the pitching, would it not? Pitching, lately, has been great. So unless YoGa can't do what he has already been doing, it won't affect us too much.

    Exactly right. The actual media value of the owner is now much lower because he isn't new anymore. I'm betting they don't show other teams owners all the time on their broadcasts either. Now, closer to the trade deadline they might just do an interview with him and ask the big question. How much salary is DM allowed to take on in the trading season. You will then get a very vague answer. I bet if he gets a little taste of the playoffs or even a playoff chase he's going to want to dig a little bit further into the old wallet this offseason. That said, do you think his goal is to actually win a championship or do those type of guys become content with having solid teams each year that bring in revenue?

    I was about to say the same thing, Cruiser. I have a feeling that he's going to go Verlander on us. Though, the thought of Braun facing Double D does make that premonition slightly fade.

    Game Balls: All four go to pitchers. Bush, Shouse, TBow, and i guess Coco can have one even though he had a hard time making it interesting, or even fair. The offense can't always win it for us, great to see the pitching getting better.

    Gamecast showed that strikeout pitch in the dirt. That can only mean one thing.
