  1. I don't know what type of man Prince is. But every single time I read something that Cecil said it irritates me to the core. He's got all the tendencies of someone who has a huge yet delicate ego, a selective memory to accommodate it, and is possibly a bit sociopathic as a result. This leads me to believe that there are probably many good reasons for why he feels the need to keep away from his father's side of the family. Imagine growing up with that man as your father. You can't tell me he was a good man all those years and just had a few "screw ups." No, that sort of scum doesn't take days off. I'm sure Prince has a lot of stories about him that have yet to or never will become public. I don't blame him.
  2. Here's one thought: Hawkins is 38, Saito is 41. Krod is 29. Here's another: Hawkins made 4.25M last year, the most he's made since 2006. Is he expected to make more than that in 2012?
  3. I think in most of these kinds of situations, how the player handles the aftermath plays a huge role on how he is remembered. Look at Big Mac, Palmiero, Sosa.. all just a bunch of liars and it was so very obvious. Ryan, if you screwed up, do the right thing and make the right decisions from here on out. Start with the truth.
  4. I hate to say it, but I am really not surprised by this. It is horrible, but I have long suspected that if any Brewer were "juicing" it would be Braun. Kapler, yes. But remember, he also trained with ARod right out of college. Maybe this has nothing to do with it.. For me it has always been more of a "I don't think a guy that size hits with that sort of power consistently unless they are juicing" kinda thing. In fact.... i think there was a thread about this.. about brewers that we suspect have or are juicing. A couple of us did say Braun.
  5. a 24/7 Brewer network sounds wonderful in theory but how do you fill up a whole day, every day, with fresh brewer stuff?
  6. Hmmmm... I feel that i'd be pretty disappointed in Braun, as a player and as a man, if he were in Reyes position and did what Reyes did. With that said, i'm sure Braun cares more about the MVP than the batting title. It will not matter at all, in my opinion, if Braun is only a point off of Reyes when it comes time to vote.. i think he's got it either way.. but I think he's going to put one last show on for us tonight, whatever that amounts to.
  7. everyone needs to relax about this.. this trade doesn't make it harder to acquire a SS. this trade is good. go to bed.
  8. On the topic of prospects and thinking about the linebrink trade, anyone see what kind of numbers Thatcher is putting up this year? ERA 1.29, Whip .86, 45/7 in 35 innings, .185 BAA.
  9. Here is the NL relief pitching only stats. We do lead the league with 20 Lgr (relief losses) but as you can see the average is 15, you cant look at that 20 number and expect it to be close to 0. So that is 5 games lost above average our bullpen has cost us. For example Yuni right now is at 18.2 runs below average and Casey is 17.4 runs below average which combined accounts for about 4 wins below average between them.Three things of note about your post. 1. If 3B and SS combined are costing us less compared to the average than our bullpen, wouldn't that make bullpen a more pressing need? I can see the logic to the contrary: 3B and SS are just two positions and a bullpen is an entire bullpen. But two factors make me believe that this was a better move to make than left-side infield upgrades: a. As mentioned above, the addition of a quality, proven bullpen arm has a cascading positive effect on the rest of the relief pitchers. Hawkins and Saito will get more rest, and are very dominant pitchers to be getting 6th or 7th inning slots. Loe gets used more appropriately. And Estrada is only used when absolutely necessary.b. While Yuni B is almost assuredly going to continue performing at a crap level, Casey could very will pick it back up. If he plays to his abilities, SS is our only issue and accounts for somewhere around 2 wins below average. Therefore, i think the greatest need was filled, and with probably the greatest value available. 2. If you look at the bottom of that list, the teams that have lost the fewest due to bullpen issues are for the most part leading their divisions or are very much in the race. 3. We just grabbed one of the best relief pitchers for basically nothing off of one of the teams with the fewest bullpen losses. The best part about this trade, though, is that no matter what you rate as a more urgent upgrade, it in no way deters us from making another move for a 3B or SS. WIN WIN WIN
  10. If you listen to the Doug Melvin interview, what RRR said makes a lot of sense. When he was asked about who would close, and what role KRod would have, DM answered with "we aren't going to get into all of that" or something to that effect. No one from the organization is going to come out and say that they will limit him to avoid his vesting option. As stated before, the union would have a big problem with this. So it does seem that there are clear instructions from the top down to make this situation as ambiguous as possible in the media.. However, if John Axford is still the closer, why can't they just come out and say "Axford has performed at an extremely high level, he's been our guy, he will continue to be our guy. K Rod will be the setup man." There has got to be some element of truth to K Rod closing.. Perhaps: KRod expressed the desire to close a significant amount of games to DM when they talked. Mayb they will start by giving him 2 out of every 5 and then work that number down to 1 out of 5 and then none unless an emergency just to appease him.
  11. "...unless your 5th starter is Chris Narveson"... is what i'm hoping we can be saying in the near future. i'm picturing t shirts
  12. Didn't hear what Anderson said, was he just talking about Morgan rolling over Wilson on the final play? I think it was something other than that. I think he made a reference to him speaking in some format...
  13. i saw the question asked but no one answered it so i'll ask again.. What did Tony Plush do last night?
  14. they are just catering to their main demographic, the 16-24 year old "men" who wouldn't dare be caught being wimpy. same with the skinny jeans commercial.
  15. maybe whoever is responsible for FSN not having this game did us a favor
  16. This is so frustrating... Didn't they talk about televising EVERY Brewer game on FSN over three years ago? Wasn't this a goal of theirs? I realize that no one gave a darn about the team for a long time but this is now a winning ball club with many many fans. We put 40,000 in the seats on a tuesday but we can't get all the games televised? Embarrassing comes to mind. Again, frustrating more than anything, but i think i have the live stream bookmarked so hopefully that works...
  17. i don't watch every game, but his scooping and error saving ability is much better than just a few years ago. Perhaps this doesn't say much.
  18. It's easy to draw that conclusion when your team is doing nothing to drive in runs but every team has these issues. When things are going really well, not so much, but not many teams do this at an extremely high level all year. Really? I think it's a product of a team that is well over .500 and doing everything well at the same time (hitting and pitching) whereas teams that can't put both facets together at the same time hover around .500 or less (ie. Milwaukee). Considering the current state of this team (Grienke and Hart just getting back into the swing of things, the bullpen injuries, Morgan on the DL), it's tough to expect that level of performance. If health holds up and we are still inconsistent when we should be making a playoff run then it's time to start grumbling.. as of now.. it's just the way she goes.. imo of course

  20. Kotsay must go.. that is simple. What's more confusing is the pitching situation. We have Grienke, Parra, and Saito to bring back, still. And i am having trouble figuring out which pitchers go down or get cut to make room for them.. especially when we are apparently losing one as a result of Morgan coming back.
  21. Pavlovian response: http://static.tvfanatic.com/images/gallery/whacking-day-picture.jpg Actually, that's much more Skinnarian.. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. the meds can improve his condition but it's not as simple as flipping a switch. even if you could completely take care of the physical aspect of it there are mental mechanisms that need a lot of time straighten out. also... as an introvert, i find his sense of humor very familiar and very funny.
  23. Great move by the Cards. If Suppan gets it turned around they have a very cheap, experienced pitcher. It makes sense that he'll do slightly better in St. Louis. He is a guy who pitches to contact and the Cards defense is built around that philosophy. Ours is not. Good luck, Soup... except.. not.
