  1. The Historical Society is also one of my favorite places to study on campus. I love the "new" reading room.
  2. I'm so excited right now. I was at the 2006 NCAA title game when I was a senior in HS getting ready to go to the UW in the fall, and now as a senior at the UW they're back in the Frozen Four. I wish I could be there, but stupid school gets in the way! I watched the RIT/UNH game earlier, and RIT looks good, but I think the UW can handle them, no problem. Here's hoping a 7th national championship being only 14 days away.
  3. I've never seen Alice in Wonderland (old or new) or the Wizard of Oz. I've never smoked I've never been to a frat party I've never broken a bone I never went to public high school I've never sat in the "real people" sections of a badger football game
  4. tristarscoop... did you win or lose? So odd because I met the girl who lost right before the game... she's friends with a bunch of the people who lived on my floor freshman year. Friday was such an exciting game, it seemed like those three goals to take the lead came right after one another even though they were much more evenly spaced out than that. The tie was disappointing but I kind of felt it coming after the two penalties they took after taking the lead. Saturday was great. The crowds were pretty amazing both nights. The 15 or 20 verses of roll out the barrel were a lot of fun. This is a huge weekend and I can't wait for the outdoor game, should be a ton of fun.
  5. Sorry, guess I misunderstood what you were trying to say. Have you read much Spenser, GAME? If you like Milton... Milton does a lot of ripping off of Spenser. Spenser is actually my favorite of the "great English quartet... Chaucer, Spenser, Milton, Shakespeare." I imagine you've probably read a book of the Faerie Queene at least, seeing as you have an English degree - so you probably already saw a lot of Spenser in Milton.
  6. I should probably add a preface that I'm an English, History, Latin triple major at the UW, so my taste in books might be a little snobbish. Light in August by Faulkner and Invisible Man by Ellison are absolutely stunning I think. Light In August was a tough read but it was really great. I have to disagree with GAME about Milton and Shakespeare though. I took a Milton course last semester right alongside a Shakespeare course. Perhaps it was just that the professors were so great, but I really loved both. I like the feeling you get when you read Paradise Lost all the way through - mostly it's just the sense of accomplishment and brotherhood with the other people who've done it because it's just such a ridiculous thing to do. Milton's prose works are pretty awesome as well. Areopagitica is one of the first major essays on freedom of the press and it's pretty incredible. The Doctrine and Discipline of Divorce has a lot of very interesting personal implications to Milton's life (He wrote it while frustrated by the fact that he could not divorce his estranged wife). I think if you read some of his prose alongside Paradise Lost, it really opens the poem up beyond just the religious aspects into the personal aspects of Milton's life. I'm currently reading Ron Chernow's biography of Alexander Hamilton. It's pretty heavily slanted in favor of Hamilton, which annoys me since I'm pretty firmly in the Burr camp when it comes to Hamilton, but so far, very interesting.
  7. Hawing, I saw Leuer, Hughes and the rest of the team out at State St Brats after the Marquette game. I was out with a bunch of my friends and I thought one of my buddies was going to faint. I will say one thing... those guys have absolutely no problems picking up ladies.
  8. I felt the need to add on to my story about how I'm having the best week I've had in years that I started above. Went on a date with the girl I was dancing with and have a big crush on on Tuesday night. It was undoubtedly the best first date I've ever had (the bar wasn't too high, but this one will be hard to beat). For those familiar with the Madison area, we went out to eat at Lucky's on Regent, and not once in the three hours we were together was there a single awkward or non-awkward pause in conversation. It was absolutely incredible. It's been a long time (since high school, in fact) that I've sent and received text messages with a girl I'm interested in without leaving the situation confused or sad. Maybe that says a lot more about my romantic life lately than it does about these particular texts, but I've never smiled so much as in the last week. And to make it even better... I was completely unprepared for a quiz in my Latin class this afternoon, but I woke up this morning to find an e-mail from my TA announcing class and the quiz were canceled. This much good stuff cannot happen in such a short time. I'm beginning to wonder if karma is going to jump up and bite me.
  9. Yesterday was one of the best days I've had in a long time. Had great seats in the 6th row of the student section for the Purdue beat-down. Then took a little time to rest before getting in line in the "cold" to get seats in the first row of the student section for the UNH beat-down. And after the game, went to an excellent party and spent the entire night dancing with the girl I have a big crush on. It doesn't happen often, but somedays, everything goes your way.
  10. Last night's game was one of the best I've ever seen the Badgers play. And I'd like to think I had a pretty good vantage point... first row of the student section. The 6th goal was absolutely beautiful, it was a perfect set up on a really good pass. I have zero complaints about last nights game. So much better than the game I saw against CC.
  11. My roommates are absolutely killing me. I'm the only guy living with 5 girls, and I can do NOTHING right. I spend the majority of the time feeling ostracized and alienated because everything I do and say, no matter how inconsequential, makes one of them angry, which of course leads to all the rest of the girls taking her side because they've known her longer (but also, to be honest, because I'm the guy). I've changed my habits so much in the last two months and I can still not make it through a two day period without getting in a fight or feeling like one of my roommates is mad at me. I used to like these girls, but now... they just drive me crazy. I can't focus, I've fallen behind on schoolwork, and I'm usually depressed. I used to think living alone is the worst possible situation for me to be in because I'm so easily depressed, but now I know that you can actually feel lonelier in a full apartment than when you're alone. This will be the longest year of my life.
  12. On Tuesday nights at the Painted Parrot in West Allis, if you finish a 2 pound burger, 22 fries, and 2 oz. of soup in 22 minutes you win a 1/4 barrel party.
  13. I was wondering if someone could help me out with this. On the coaches roster, Marcus Hanel is listed as #54, but of course Riske wears #54. Are the numbers just not updated on the Brewers website, or do they just both wear 54?
  14. I've been looking into traveling to Cleveland in June for the Brewers/Indians series. I was planning on taking Amtrak which has a station in downtown Cleveland about a mile away from the stadium. I was hoping to get a room somewhere downtown near the stadium so I wouldn't need a car. I'm looking for some advice on inexpensive lodging in the downtown area, as well as recommendations on where to sit at the Jake, where to eat in Cleveland, etc.
  15. My roommate and I signed up for Charter's cable and internet service when we moved into our apartment about 7 months ago. At the time we both couldn't afford expanded cable so we signed up for a 6 month deal for basic cable and internet. That deal ran out last month and last night my roommate called and upgraded us to expanded cable because it was only about 15 dollars more per month than the non-deal basic cable and internet. Needless to say, this is not bugging me. Right in time for baseball season. Moreover, after the cableguy had left, I turned on the TV to check out the new set up. I didn't realize we were going to be getting MLB network. So, bonus. Not only that but when I turned to the MLB network this afternoon is was during the 10th inning of the replay of the DR/Netherlands game. What a good day.
  16. I've had the service for over two years now and I love it also. Have only had issues two or three times out of 200+ deliveries, and the situation was always rectified within a day or two. Turnaround time for me has been two days, whether in Madison or Milwaukee. Unfortunately for me, I have a mac so there's no instant watch, but it's still a great deal.
  17. sbrylski, where are you located? If you're in Madison, we should get together some time for a few games. None of my friends will play me anymore because they're tired of losing. But averaging 300+ bodes well for some decent competition.
  18. That was definitely me.
  19. There is not a single thing about that video that isn't stupid.
  20. I was very nervous about the re-do at first because I liked the site the way it was before (they've been running those terrible ads that come up over the top of the page about the new design for a couple days now), and I was worried the JS was going to take a good thing and ruin it. But the new layout is at least just as good, if not an improvement. It certainly looks "fresher."
  21. For an absentee ballot, you'll have to talk to a city clerk.
  22. Yeah, it does, but to register without showing proof of residence (like a water bill, cable bill, etc) you must register before the October 15th. In my opinion, as someone who has registered and re-registered to vote three times in three years and done it both ways, it's a lot easier and a lot faster to register beforehand. Registering early just makes things a lot easier on election day for both the voter and the poll worker.
  23. I posted this also in the BF political forum, but wanted to post here also. This is in no way a discussion about politics, merely a discussion about voter registration in Wisconsin. So please don't turn this into something that belongs on the politics forum and get this thread locked. Anyway. I've been deputized as a special voter registration deputy in the city of Madison, so if there are any Madison residents here who need to register (or re-register if you've moved since the last time you voted) please feel free to send me a PM and we can set up a meeting. I can also answer most questions regarding voter registration in Wisconsin or at least direct you to someone who will know the answer. Thanks, and make sure to register before October 15th.
