  1. Sometimes you read where you think the throw is going & try to get hit with it, especially when you know any kind of a decent throw is getting you. That might've been what Pham was doing. Then again maybe he was just being Pham.
  2. Murphy really, really wanted this to be break day for some folks. Adames & Contreras talked him out of it, but you saw evidence of it w/Herget coming out for the 8th. Some ugly baserunning decisions helped immensely. But for the role he's in you gotta love Herget filling the zone (of course he walks the 170-something hitter to start trouble, not much excuse for that). Hoskins or even Perkins hitting for Frelick would've made a lot of sense in the bottom of the 8th. But if you're going to let Frelick hit, the safety squeeze was a great call. Unfortunately a poor bunt, and poor decision from Yelich. Paredes. Looks like they found another one (provided he can keep filling the zone). BP in nice shape for Philly.
  3. I actually like the idea of Turang & Ortiz in the top two spots. I wouldn't mess with it now with the team scoring runs as is, but maybe for future reference.
  4. Fun stat of the day: Yeah, it's relatively meaningless as a pitchers' stat, but the 3 BP lefties are a combined 12-1 on the season.
  5. Very, very happy to see Yoho bumped up to Biloxi. And I hope Norman makes it back to Carolina in short order; I was looking forward to seeing how his bat would play in A-ball.
  6. Btwn Yelich sometimes DHing & whatever # of days off they feel compelled to give Perkins, it's up in the air as to Chourios' PT. Hope it isn't strictly a lefties-only situation & don't think it will be. Stay tuned, I guess.
  7. Agreed, hence my last sentence. It's just that the original post included one of the two, and in that event I'd rather barter both & not deal Rodriguez. I think any of the better starters out there, clubs are going to start the talks with Miso & it'll end there.
  8. I'd actually try Black, Wiemer AND Mitchell w/2 younger arms & try to keep C Rod. But methinks they'll get a better offer from someone else.
  9. If his throwing in the low 90s was strictly due to him starting, then sure. But I thought there was some speculation that he wasn't 100% even before the IL stint. I'd prefer to use him as a starter in Nashville. Gradually ramp up the pitch count & see if he can build. That's a role he could be really valuable in w/Milwaukee & that's what I'd aim for. If he's in the pen with the Brewers, with all the other lefties he'd probably have a role where he'd come in early & go 2-3 innings. I don't think that's a huge difference from starting & going 70-75, which is what our starters are often limited to anyway.
  10. Waiting for his reference to that same team sweeping the eventual WS champs on the road. While waiting I'll take care not to trip over my long, white beard.
  11. Ditto on the baserunning. It takes more than just speed; it's a skill. And this team has many guys who are good at it. Frelick scoring on the Ortiz double was gorgeous. I think Murphy might've been holding Chourio to hit for Frelick if a L vs L came up there. My biggest problem was Miller not bunting.
  12. I don't see them replacing Chourio with Mitchell. I know some on here don't seem to think this is a big deal, but if they did that you'd have four OFs, three hit from the left side & one is a switch hitter that is stronger from the left side. And when Hoskins comes back you can sometimes throw Bauers out there, who hits from.........the left side. Chourios' struggles & Wiemer doing next to nothing so far have caused a little bit of a.........I won't say problem, but someone that can at least fill a Tyrone Taylor-type role wouldn't hurt. And there are four months left to go. It still could be Chourio.
  13. Thx for sharing that. Fantastic call. When on TV I feel Levering cranks up the excuse machine too much when things aren't going well. But that isn't some big rarity with home team announcers.
  14. Chris Hook kinda flies under the radar, but man oh man he & the work done in the pitching lab deserves a ton of credit.
  15. Agree. Like I've said, it isn't who you're playing, but how. Hopefully a hot streak can spring up from this.
  16. So only go dumpster diving when you KNOW the guy is going to pan out. When you know he isn't, pass. Come on. This is something teams do to add to their roster, and not just us. No, it isn't an exact science. But from what I've seen I trust this organizations' decisions more often than not. And BTW, Jake Bauers has made the difference btwn winning & losing games 2-3 times this season with the glove alone. But I do agree he's scuffling now, on both ends. I don't know if you're a Tyler Black guy or not, but I'm talking about plays he would NOT have made if he were here instead.
  17. There's been some talk on here about the team winning in spite of Murphy, which IMO is way too harsh. But just for today, I think it applies. You have to keep Wisdom & Suzuki on the bench in the 7th. Lifting Payamps was a bad move that I disagreed with in the moment, no hindsight. In the 8th I'm inclined to give Morel a little credit for staying on a 3-1 pitch & hitting it out the other way, I think the decision to leave Hudson in there is a little more of a gray area. Miller not bunting was a terrible decision. I loved Schroeder there. "It's tough to bunt on a guy that isn't throwing strikes". No, Bill. There's such a thing as pulling the bat back & taking the pitch. But at the end of the day, wow did this group step up in the moment!! Fantastic series. Can't say enough about the quality of Adames' at bats. He'll be delivering a crow dinner to my door tonite. Let's give Contreras a day tomorrow. Go old school, Turang & Ortiz 1 & 2.
  18. To me today is about getting hungry. Winning 3 of 4 would be a nice statement, not to mention breaking through to the elusive 10-game-over mark. Won't be a walk in the park, that other team looks like they're starting to swing the bats a little better. If Rea can get into the 5th-6th, BP availability is pretty good today.
  19. Great night at the dish for Tyler Black. But I see he committed his 7th error of the season, and that's A LOT for a 1B with June not yet here (2 of the 7 in one game at 3B). It's difficult to get a handle on what direction his future may take AFA possible position change, etc. It'll be interesting.
  20. I'll stand behind that. Everyone has hot/cold stretches, but when Willy's bad he's exceptionally bad. Not someone I want in the cleanup spot. I get it w/Hoskins out, but in a perfect world I'd have him a couple spots lower. When in a stretch like this though, heck yeah, fun to watch.
  21. Lots of heroes tonite. Two unsung ones were Koenig & Paredes for restoring order in the 6th & 7th after the ridiculousness of the previous couple innings. Boy, Adames waiting back & driving a changeup out of the park is a great sign. Relishing the thought of their fans skewing CC for sitting the second coming of Cy Young for 10 days between starts, then seeing him get clocked.
