  1. I imagine they have a certain # of at-bats they want to see Frelick compile before pulling the trigger on him. When that happens It won't be for Wiemer unless he really falls off a cliff & is hitting .180 or something. I get the 'year of control' stuff, I just don't see them going that route unless they can back it up with a severe performance decline. Let's let Hiura get back on the field at N'ville. If he continues to hit once he does, then sure. Explore what Ramon Laureano or Lane Thomas would cost.
  2. It was VERY impressive............and frustrating...............watching them go about their business today. Tight zone, and they recognized it. Their approach is the difference between Teheran going into the 7th inning, and having to leave after five. We never would've had similar success running up the pitch count b/c Gallen is really good. Still, he had only two 3-ball counts in seven innings, and it's no coincidence those were both successful ABs. It's not easy to grind out at-bats, esp vs a guy like they faced today, but the difference in approach was obvious, especially with the small zone. You seldom see a team successfully take as many pitches with 2 strikes as the D-Backs did this week. It wears on a pitcher. Under the circumstances it made Teherans' performance today all the more impressive.
  3. Just a gut feeling but I think there's a chance of going on a bit of a run if they can get this one. The bad news is on paper that looks pretty unlikely today. After a glacier-cold start it looks like Urias' ABs are getting better.
  4. That one-out walk can't happen, with bases empty & a two run lead. Not against this team. But a great play by Miller, threading the needle on that throw to 2B with the runner btwn him & Adames.
  5. I'd be fine with trading Adames for the return Nate mentioned. My only concern is, after the last deadline, would a # of the Brewer players respond with their own little mental & emotional "sit down" in response to losing their leader & the guy who puts the wedge of cheese on the HR hitters' head. On the other hand, I'm not going that high for Robert.
  6. As long as it's an all-dirt infield (no sliding pits) I'd be OK with the more realistic, truer stuff they install today. Especially if it improves the bottom line (maintenance, ability to hold other events).
  7. My sister is looking for an apartment & had a showing scheduled for Monday, They notified us it has to be re-scheduled because of Juneteenth. THAT was surprising.
  8. Winker for Singleton looks like a no-brainer by Friday. Hiura (once he's activated at AAA) & Frelick (a hit & a couple walks in his return to Nashville) are possibilities in the next week or two also. Maybe Turang (4 RBI Wednesday) works his way back into the conversation. The thing is, we're talking about 3 LHH and a RHH with reverse splits.
  9. Sort of ironic Robinson & Floyd are involved in moves at the same time. I had hopes for both & thought it might mitigate our need to acquire BP arms every deadline. Of course, if Uribe shines in AAA............
  10. No & yes. If he gives up his post I also think he'll take another job within the organization. And unless his replacement is a home run hire it'll be more a leave of absence than anything.
  11. Yes. That, and NOT taking a hack at pitches-----in ANY count-----that aren't strikes.
  12. I'm as far from being an analytics guy as you can get. So maybe I'll be allowed to point out that using Bruisedcrew's criteria, against teams that aren't terrible they're 30-24. Which isn't a "better" point, other than it illustrates the same thing--that this team doesn't play good baseball on a consistent basis. Personally, I didn't have any more--or less--confidence going into this series than I did when they played Houston, Baltimore, NY, or Kansas City for that matter. The inconsistencies demand that sort of attitude. I've always said it isn't who you're playing, as much as how you're playing. Colorado played very, very well against us. The Mets, and to an extent Houston, played like crap. We've been lousy the last 2 days + 2 innings. I've seen nothing to verify this is a "bad" team. Or a good one. The weirdest thing to me is that the jury is still out as you approach mid-June. As for today, I see Joey Wiemer in his 4th different spot in the order in as many games. After he finally started heating up, that doesn't thrill me.
  13. In the aftermath of the Freitag commitment, just a quick note on Kon Knueppel. He's having an absolutely monster summer. Wouldn't be surprised if he winds up ranked among the top 10 players in the class of '24.
  14. Yes. Bama comes to Madison in '24. My dad took me to a UW-LSU game a little over 50 years ago. I believe that was the last time an SEC team came to Camp Randall.
  15. I'd certainly explore Laureano. Hard to say what the interest in him from others would be, though. Lane Thomas should be a cheaper option. Always liked him.
  16. "Giving him a day" would be in line with our MO. But I agree with you.
  17. CC presser: Monasterio "doing fine". They don't expect any issues. Having said that I would be surprised if he wasn't given a day off tomorrow.
  18. If Taylor is having issues I'm guessing they'll gut it out with him for another day or two, then add Urias or Adames. Otherwise...........Skye Bolt? Either way it's looking more & more like our best 3B will be stuck in RF pretty regularly.
  19. His considering football (at least at first) might've played a part in some of the traditional powers not getting involved. But like you said UW was in early & often. You hafta like kids to whom that means a lot. He's also said some very complimentary things about Greg Gard. I mean over-the-top complimentary.
  20. Committed to UW moments ago. Very nice addition.
  21. Health, and the people they already have performing on a level more consistent with their individual abilities, are more important than acquisitions from outside the organization (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "upgrades") & always will be.
  22. Badger hoops fans who follow recruiting news have been paying much attention to Daniel Freitag, where he might wind up, & what sport he may choose. The latest info has him making a decision at 3PM tomorrow. Most sources I've seen are anticipating a UW commitment, with Notre Dame still a possibility. Stay tuned.
  23. Yeah, I was just semi-on board with the concept of seeing if he can play 1B. Really no room for him at Biloxi as none of the folks you mentioned are deserving/ready to move up, yet you aren't in unconditional release territory either. It doesn't look like a permanent spot for Campbell at N'ville is in the cards right now as I think they'd want to hang on to Monasterio & Toro if/when the time comes to remove them from the MLB roster. What kind of defender is Ernesto Martinez at 1B?
  24. If Miller can play 1B, moving him would actually make sense (might be a big if though). There are two other reasons to consider it: One is Jeff Quero & the other is Matt Wood. Quero should IMO stay where he is for now. I highly doubt Navaretto or Henry would bring you any helpful pitching. Campbell was just promoted. He has the versatility you need in 21st century baseball, where it seems like you need thirty guys in your bullpen.
  25. IMO that would necessitate selling the team to James Earl Jones, which would at least make for better in-game interviews.
