  1. So I was right!!!!! They call it a changeup so it'll be less strain on his shoulder than if they called it a screwball!!!!!
  2. The fun thing about Sanders is that he was in the era of multi-inning saves. 133 games with just over 228 IP in his best two Milwaukee seasons, with a number of outings of 3+ innings. Still remember Fingers on the playoff roster in '82, even getting up a time or two in the bullpen. Decoy, or hoping it felt good enough to come in & throw 10-15 pitches? They wound up going through those two series with nine arms.
  3. Good luck. It's the ability to do/say whatever you want while maintaining anonymity. There will always be folks who can't resist abusing that. But in almost a year here, I'd say this board has at least a fighting chance compared to others. We shall see.
  4. Personally I don't care for a "thumbs down" icon. I'd rather people either just ignore a post they don't like or respond to it with a counter-argument. I know some have wanted it though, so I hope it's a positive addition.
  5. Maybe the team feels there won't be as much strain on his arm if it's called a changeup.🤔 Anyway, welcome!!!!
  6. Also Jamel Howard, a 320lb D-lineman who committed early then de-committed, re-chose UW today. New DL coach Greg Scruggs & Fickell held off Michigan, among others. Some of the transfer pickups, which often come with a coaching change, will certainly pay dividends. But this (the HS recruiting) is what'll sustain them over the long haul. And the staff has done this with little time to acclimate to their new gig. You can't help but be impressed. EDIT: areacodes beats me by a nose!!!!
  7. Not that they've never gotten a kid from Waunakee, but it's gratifying to see them break through there. It hasn't been a place they've been able to build the proverbial wall around. Never seen Booker play, but from descriptions I've heard he sounds like he could be in the Kendricks/Beckum mold. Getting both him & Stec is unusually impressive.
  8. I remember the early days of the DH, when many teams used it as a way of getting ABs for a well-worn slugger who couldn't regularly be used on the field anymore (Cepeda, Tommy Davis, Deron Johnson, Tony Oliva, Frank Robinson). With the exception of Aarons' two years here the Brewers didn't use it in that way. Easily the most subjective position in this whole exercise.
  9. Years ago I worked at a place where people were constantly leaving each other notes at their desks. I would sabotage some of them by writing "love" above the name at the bottom, so instead of it simply saying "Stan" it would say "love, Stan". Anything to make the day go by faster.
  10. You beat me to it Louis!!!!! While reading this I thought of Freeman. The 80s certainly was the decade of splashy hitting prospects who hit a ceiling--Robidoux, Freeman, Randy Ready, Dion James, Ernest Riles all had gaudy numbers (although James & Riles carved out a niche & contributed some elsewhere). I even remember George Bamberger in his second go-around with the team extolling the talents of one "Joey Mi-yah, a big strong boy who can hit da ball outta da bawlpahk". I never thought Robidoux would be a big HR guy but still liked his chances as someone who could drive in runs from the LH side & make the pitcher throw strikes. Oh well.......
  11. I've always liked to look at it from a "fill out a lineup card" perspective, which of course eliminates someone from winning two spots. I like TPlushs' idea of going by longevity at a position or where you spent your prime years. Of course that disqualifies Molitor at 2B which would conveniently open up 3B for Cirillo. As you said, all methods have validity. For the record, if Molitor isn't eligible at 2B then to put it in a "division standings" format Vina is my 1st place guy, with Gantner percentage points behind & Weeks about a game back.
  12. The tough thing about these lists is when you have someone who played multiple spots. Where do you put him? Heck, there are Brewer fans in their early 40s who don't remember Robin Yount as a shortstop. If Molitor is considered a 2B IMO it's him & not particularly close. Weeks, despite not living up to his draft rep, did some solid work with the bat. He worked really hard to improve what was a weak glove. But 2B isn't a position where you can overlook defense. All considered I think you can put him, Gantner, and Vina in a dice cup & shake 'em out in whatever order.
  13. The spur that runs north from the ballpark caused my dad some anxious moments in the 60s. It ended at 47th & Lisbon. Then there was the Fond du Lac Freeway, which originated around 68th & Hampton & proceeded NW. There was talk of connecting the two, and the path would've either run through our home, or very close to it. Fortunately for us it was decided Appleton ave, 60th st & Fond du Lac ave sufficed as a link. When the southern bypass (I-894) was built it went mainly through undeveloped land. A northern one would've caused quite a bit of uprooting; maybe people b****ed enough to keep it from happening.
  14. Quite ambitious. The part that would've made sense is the stretch from I-45 to I-43 going east-west on the north side. Most large metro areas have a freeway "ring" but Milwaukee never did a northern tier. If you travel down Silver Spring Dr there are quite a few underpasses, presumably to try to make up for that. Made travel between Wauwatosa & Port Washington kinda fractured.
  15. My nephew has a place in Nashville. I'll pass on the info.?
  16. I lived in the central part of Greenfield (just north of the HS) for about 18 years. Yeah, the borders are crazy as a result of G'field "freezing" the borders by becoming a city in the middle of Milwaukee's annexation grab. It used to be identified by the lack of curbs & sidewalks on the Greenfield side but I think that's starting to change. You got me on Rainbow Airport. Could it have been in/near the current Rainbow Park?
  17. That's a significant point. Sexson, Fielder & Scott all had their numbers shrink in the last 2-3 seasons, but none of them were in Milwaukee. Out of sight, out of mind. Coopers' fade came when still a member of the Brewers, which I don't think is something he should lose points for.
  18. I knew about the part that juts into Waukesha County. Didn't know about the Washington County extension. Back in the last century (don't remember when, probably in the post WW2 annexation craze) there was a movement to annex a large corridor of land abutting, IIRC, Hampton Ave that would jut out a few miles into Waukesha County. I'm assuming incorporation efforts by Menomonee Falls put a damper on that. I've always been a geek about stuff like that. For example, from Good Hope Rd south to Burleigh, and again for about a two mile stretch on the south side, there is no 59th street. It's 60th, then 58th. Never knew the reason for that.
  19. Not that this guy would've been on the radar either, but actually their primary 1B in '69 was Don Mincher. Hit 27 dingers too. I believe Hegan spent quite a bit of time in the OF that season, then got hurt.
  20. In looking at his last four seasons, I see two things: His productivity certainly wasn't at the level of his first 6-7 years (if they were he'd probably be a HOF shoo-in), and we have distinctly different definitions of "total trash". Other than that, I have no problem with someone putting Fielder tops on the list. I'm just not in that camp.
  21. 3 full seasons for Sexson, as opposed to Coopers' 10.5 ( I consider 1987 as a half-year swan song) is a large determinant for me. Sexson was a power guy, and a monumentally good one while here. But i'll take Coopers' numbers for a decade playing in what was largely considered a pitchers' park.
  22. That's where I land as well. I give Cooper a razors' edge over Prince due to range & a little more longevity. Then there's a chasm. It's interesting to note that Scott was originally acquired to man 3rd base.
  23. If they made that deal Santander could arguably be more productive in 2023 than any of the OFs mentioned. It would also most likely be a precursor to another deal involving an OF. In any case, as I said I doubt the O's would do it. More than anything it would be a chance to get more for Houser than they'd likely ever be able to get. I also doubt the O's would give us Hall for Houser.
