  1. As long as he comes cheaply enough (and he probably will), fine. After losing J Wilson this isn't all that surprising. If anything it's an indictment of where they think Clayton Andrews is right now, I guess.
  2. Off the top of my head, Lazar. One of the 3 catchers in AAA, probably Navarreto? Amaya? I don't quite know what to think of Ernesto Martinez anymore.
  3. I'm picturing a comfy seat on the oversized sofa, a bowl of popcorn, watching 8 hours of coverage on MLBN tomorrow with a megaphone, shouting at the screen, GOPHERIT!!!!!!! MOVE THE NEEDLE!!!!!!
  4. FWIW, Counsell said in postgame Canha could play some in RF, with Frelick moving to CF. That tells me Wiemer mostly sees time vs LHP, unless Canha settles in to the DH spot.
  5. I'll pine over the lost opportunity of acquiring Jimenez when I know what it would've taken to seal the deal, and if I would've been OK with the cost. Pretty safe to say we'll never have the answer. Jarvis had a rough start to his AAA odyssey, but not a depth of AA-AAA arms who seem to have a chance. So I would've liked for the cost to be a smidge less. Brewers4eric echoes my thoughts---if he produces like he's capable of & helps get them to October, OK. CC said something interesting postgame--Canha can play RF, with Frelick sometimes moving to CF. That tells me we may see Joey primarily vs LHP from here out, unless Canha settles into DH a healthy % of the time.
  6. Even though we're out of the stagecoach age & it doesn't really make any difference it gives you a little more feeling of connectivity with us being in town. I assume the pertinent braintrust is travelling with the team. Assuming however the cost for Candelario is stiffer than anyone on the list, save for maybe Verdugo who isn't quite as good a fit.
  7. True. I'd be shocked if he didn't cost more. It's a really interesting dynamic. He rubs totally against the run prevention philosophy, even when you consider he'd be DHing because plugging one roster spot in that role w/o any other value hasn't been our MO. He only does one thing, but does it really well. And he spends quite a bit of time on the IL. Just a tough profile to value regarding what it would take to acquire him. For all we know a deal in principal might be agreed to contingent upon medicos giving him a thumbs up. Is there a DH health lab down the hall from the pitching lab?🤔
  8. ........And at the end of the day, I'd rather have Canha anyway. Seems pretty obvious it's more than just "checking in" on Jimenez, but if that doesn't happen Canha might be a fallback.
  9. Megill replaced Wilson. I think you're correct in that he profiles as a back-of-the-rotation guy. But there isn't a plethora of even those types in Nashville or Biloxi.
  10. After dealing Reese Olson & Antoine Kelley for BP help & neither trade working out at all, I doubt Jarvis would be dealt for the same type of asset. If that's why he was scratched it would have to be for a bat, & one they must like quite a bit because Jarvis is a prospect starter in one of the top two levels of the system, and there ain't much depth there right now.
  11. That might make for an interesting thread title all by itself😄.
  12. I'm assuming JL still lives in Madison. That's what, a 1-hour flight? And not required to be in Champbana on game days? Interesting stuff.
  13. Hiura pulled from the game after 3 ABs tonight for Nashville. ?????
  14. So Bielema has three, count 'em, three people on his staff who once roamed the UW defensive backfield. He's certainly got that program headed in the right direction so it isn't a bad gig. But given the status Leonhard attained when here I thought his eventual landing spot would be a little more lofty. It appears staying in the midwestern footprint is important to Jim. Too bad for Northwestern they're in a state of flux right now. I think that would've been a great match.
  15. Has there been any scuttlebutt about McMahon being available? Not sure why Colorado would look to deal him, unless you offer a starter they really, really like. I wouldn't feel comfortable including Gasser, but feel that might be what it takes. He DOES fit the roster pretty well, although I hate the K rate. At the end of the day, what I suspect it would take to pry him loose is probably too rich for my blood.
  16. That's a really valid point. I have no inclination to trade anyone on the above list. As I mentioned in another thread, I think if we deal some of the more attractive talent in the system this week it'll come from people in Carolina not named Luke Adams. Guilarte, Avina, Areinamo, Lara. We'll find out soon enough.
  17. I was referring to if he stayed at 2B & put up similar numbers.
  18. With the other things he brings to the table, I'd be thrilled with that. Not saying it can't happen. But if he hits two-eighty- something up here with almost 80 RBI, takes his walks & only gets thrown out twice all year stealing along with fielding his position the way he does, he's probably an all-star.
  19. No, you aren't. But there are some on here who seemed to want to do that, I was addressing that larger point.
  20. I still believe he's going to be more than a good enough hitter to justify having him on the field when you factor in the glove, the speed, the baserunning. Considering his career path when moving from one level to the next, I strongly feel that labeling him at this point is premature.
  21. That type of deadline move is a rarer bird, but I was thinking the same thing recently. I just don't know what kind of an upgrade you can achieve offensively w/o dealing a prospect that I wouldn't want to deal. IIRC the A's & Red Sox did something similar a few years ago? I'm starting to think that if we deal any substantial prospects in the next week it might come from the position-player group at Carolina not named Luke Adams (Areinamo, Guilarte, Avina, Lara). There's some positional depth at those spots.
  22. Because as was pointed out earlier there isn't much starting pitching in the upper levels of the system, and unless you want to include Misiorowski who just arrived in Biloxi these are your two best. It's just how I value starting pitching, especially for a franchise that isn't all that well-equipped to go out & buy it.
  23. I'd never rule out picking up another reliever because that's what we do. But I'd rather we didn't due to the eventual additions Sveum & wiguy alluded to. I mean, we could use a bat or two, but I'm not even trading Gasser or Rodriguez for a bat unless it's one with a lot of team control.
