  1. No & yes. If he gives up his post I also think he'll take another job within the organization. And unless his replacement is a home run hire it'll be more a leave of absence than anything.
  2. In the aftermath of the Freitag commitment, just a quick note on Kon Knueppel. He's having an absolutely monster summer. Wouldn't be surprised if he winds up ranked among the top 10 players in the class of '24.
  3. Yes. Bama comes to Madison in '24. My dad took me to a UW-LSU game a little over 50 years ago. I believe that was the last time an SEC team came to Camp Randall.
  4. "Giving him a day" would be in line with our MO. But I agree with you.
  5. CC presser: Monasterio "doing fine". They don't expect any issues. Having said that I would be surprised if he wasn't given a day off tomorrow.
  6. His considering football (at least at first) might've played a part in some of the traditional powers not getting involved. But like you said UW was in early & often. You hafta like kids to whom that means a lot. He's also said some very complimentary things about Greg Gard. I mean over-the-top complimentary.
  7. Committed to UW moments ago. Very nice addition.
  8. Health, and the people they already have performing on a level more consistent with their individual abilities, are more important than acquisitions from outside the organization (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "upgrades") & always will be.
  9. Badger hoops fans who follow recruiting news have been paying much attention to Daniel Freitag, where he might wind up, & what sport he may choose. The latest info has him making a decision at 3PM tomorrow. Most sources I've seen are anticipating a UW commitment, with Notre Dame still a possibility. Stay tuned.
  10. Yeah, I was just semi-on board with the concept of seeing if he can play 1B. Really no room for him at Biloxi as none of the folks you mentioned are deserving/ready to move up, yet you aren't in unconditional release territory either. It doesn't look like a permanent spot for Campbell at N'ville is in the cards right now as I think they'd want to hang on to Monasterio & Toro if/when the time comes to remove them from the MLB roster. What kind of defender is Ernesto Martinez at 1B?
  11. If Miller can play 1B, moving him would actually make sense (might be a big if though). There are two other reasons to consider it: One is Jeff Quero & the other is Matt Wood. Quero should IMO stay where he is for now. I highly doubt Navaretto or Henry would bring you any helpful pitching. Campbell was just promoted. He has the versatility you need in 21st century baseball, where it seems like you need thirty guys in your bullpen.
  12. IMO that would necessitate selling the team to James Earl Jones, which would at least make for better in-game interviews.
  13. Smalls' command seems to be getting better. Better than it was, anyway. Of course it needs to continue to go northward for him to have a chance to be a viable option given the avg-at-best fastball. At best he's Brent Suter with a little more velocity. Not what you want from a first-rounder, but there's a role for that.
  14. We sold our house (in Brookfield) a couple months ago. During the 2-day open house, I had to stop by briefly to grab something and the outside was almost like one of those '80s movies where the parents are gone & there's a teen party--cars parked & double-parked, people congregating outside, coming & going through the front door. It's gotten to the point where you're disappointed if you don't get multiple offers & a bidding war ensues. And we wrapped up the deal on the condo we purchased w/o any competition. We're blessed 😇😁.
  15. Since he's still only 26, left-handed & a former 1st-round pick, no we really can't. That doesn't mean you aren't right.
  16. In a word, no. If he settles in & really goes on a hot streak in Biloxi I'd be fine with him getting 3-4 weeks in AAA to finish the season. But even spending the entire season in Biloxi wouldn't bother me, if that were to happen. Let's not forget.............19.
  17. The guys who may have a future here (Gasser, Small) are having command issues & Gasser would a require 40-man roster move anyway, which I suspect they don't want to do. That leaves the Boushley, Junk type promotion and frankly I'd rather see them roll the dice with Teheran for whatever time this is needed.
  18. Good points, but I'm looking at it from the standpoint of run prevention because, well, it's what I do😛. He's by far our best third baseman IMO. We may not have won Sundays' game if he wasn't at third in the final 2 innings. And I actually have no problem rolling with Turang most of the time. Having said all this, I'm sure you'll see him in RF some.
  19. I wonder if that eventually leads to Anderson settling in in RF. I'd understand it as he has the tools to play there but I really like him at 3B.
  20. Guess I mis-judged Varland. I really liked the way he looked early on. To go from there to the point where he clears waivers, never saw that coming.
  21. Without delving into the statistical calculus, I think he's gotten away from consciously looking to go to the opposite field like he was doing earlier in the season. There's a point where looking oppo eventually leads to you getting pitches to pull, but he hadn't gotten to that point yet where he should've changed his approach (if indeed that's what he's doing).
  22. My thinking exactly. If (when) they move away from Adames my assumption has always been it'll be Zamora, Brown or Turang next up, and it's been great to see Zamora perform as he has after a largely lost 2022. I find both Wood & Adams intriguing.
  23. As corner guys go yeah, Black deserves kudos. I'm just not convinced yet as to what position he winds up at defensively. That's why he wasn't on my mental short list. Glad to hear the thumbs up on both Clarke & Warren.
  24. He's worth mention, especially w/the dearth of corner guys in the organization. Wes Clarke & Xavier Warren haven't set the world on fire, although Clarke draws walks & seems to have a propensity to drive in runs. Luke Adams is interesting but a ways off. Alex Binelas was dealt. I'm a Cam Devanney fan, but certainly keeping an eye on Ben.
  25. I don't believe they would regularly use Caratini as a DH w/o another catcher on the roster. I also see no way Urias would supplant Anderson at 3B. THAT might be your revolving DH if Winker never gets untracked-----Urias the primary guy, occasionally giving Anderson or Adames a day off (they then DH). Attractive option? No. That's why Winker isn't going anywhere any time soon. Of course there's always the ultimate coin flip mashing down in Nashville.
