  1. Hardin finishes the 5th with his 8th & 9th Ks. No walks. The times I've seen him he always seems to be one step ahead of the hitter with his multi-pitch mix. Impressive.
  2. Kuhnel has worked back-to-back days 3-4 times this season, but always after a low pitch count the first day. He threw 20 last night so who knows? I would guess Uribe is fine. I have no idea re Rom's workload history but 25 pitches is a lot to come back from. If he can't go you're naked from the left side of the pen vs Kurtz & Soderstrom. Fun times. When the A's come to Milwaukee next year I think we should move the games to Wick Field.
  3. Piggyback with Priester. It sounded like Woodruff didn't really want to do this, citing the 'wasting bullets' analogy. Glad he was persuaded.
  4. I agree with you re Lara & CF. I've seen some of the plays he's turned in. But right now I think Lara in RF & Mitchell in CF is better than the reverse, if they were both in the lineup. My deal is more about apprehension re Mitchell in RF than anything else. Just a gut feeling. I could be wrong, but even if I'm right yeah, Lara still winds up in CF long term.
  5. This would be one hell of a (bad) time to deal Frelick if it comes to that; not exactly selling high. Yet if Lara makes it up here relatively soon, you also have Lockridge returning who was versatile & perfectly fine as an extra OF. So yeah, a pretty good chance the phones are heating up.
  6. If Lara was here & I had both of them in the lineup on a given day, I'd have Lara in RF. There's a certain amount of recklessness often associated with playing RF & I don't see Mitchell shining in that aspect. He's played there (40-some games as a pro), But Lara can play both spots well & IMO would be a better RF than Mitchell.
  7. Doesn't seem very long ago that I had visions of Contreras at 1B & Quero behind the plate, before he would've even NEEDED to move.
  8. Loss of poise for the first time that I've seen from him. Don't really blame him.
  9. Yeah, after my post I was curious & looked it up. Pretty much sounds like what you anticipate.
  10. It's going to be climate-controlled which I take to mean a dome, not retractable? either way it'll be much more enclosed than what we witnessed tonight.
  11. The Brewers winning was the best news of the night. A close #2 is Clint Vondrack won't be behind the plate the next two days. It was brutal, for both sides.
  12. It HAS to be, and I'm sure it will. This park is in a pretty open area too---a good 10-12 miles west of where all the buildings & fun stuff is---which doesn't help matters wind-wise. And the elevation IS pretty high there.
  13. When you look at Kurtz' power numbers vs LHP, it's quite different & that might've been why Ashby remained. Kurtz was due up 4th, and you had 8-9 leading off which was no problem. I would've probably gone with Uribe to save Ashby considering you have two more games of this nonsense, but there had to be a reason & that might've been it. Of course in this game, none of that crap made any difference. One thing I'd like to see is the defense get its' groove back a little. It's been shabby. For all the HRs, we probably win in regulation except for the poor stuff from the left side of the INF early on combined with a couple of really good plays from the Oakland/Sacramento/LV MINF. I think Harrison let some of this stuff get in his head a little, which is understandable. Having said that--when we were kids in the early spring we'd have practices on blacktop when the fields weren't dry yet. That's the infield at this place, basically. There are a ton of Brewer fans out there--I think we need about 75 of them to each drink a six-pack before the game tomorrow, and anything they need to do afterward, do it on the dirt in front of home plate. I think Gasser just asked to go back to Nashville for a couple days.
  14. I would love for MLB to go with A) The division winners & one WC or B) two WCs that play each other in either a winner-take-all to advance or a best of three. That to me would be best, but there's no sense railing about it because it'll never happen. $$$$$$$$.
  15. Hitting a couple HRs Thursday, then going into Coors.........I think you nailed it. If we could only inject a little bit of the Bauers approach into him. We need to be reminded sometimes how young he is; once the better approach kicks in, look out.
  16. Bauers has been a wonderful story. Saturday's game illustrates the simple 'get a good pitch to hit' philosophy that so many players struggle with. He was pitched carefully, was smart enough to realize it, and refused to get himself out. Once Chourio gets better at that, look out. I AM a little concerned about Bauers' OF play. Like all of us I'm probably spoiled by the defense this team usually plays, but his footwork after catching the fly ball w/the bases loaded Saturday night was all screwed up. Didn't cost them anything as the runner held, but a few details like that need to be cleaned up as we'll certainly see him out there at times. If he puts in the hard work that he obviously has at the plate he should make an adequate LF.
  17. My guess is not nearly what it was last year, but probably.
  18. I enjoyed Haase when he was here but they been there, done that with him as a backup catcher & I don't think they'd be interested. Whenever Perkins is removed from the roster, I think a DFA could be a possibility but I wouldn't be surprised if he simply gets optioned. The only OF in Nashville you really don't want him taking time from is Lara, and that wouldn't happen. I think they'd rather hold onto him & if he gets hot down there you might have a chance of including him in a deal somewhere if a team loses OF depth due to injury. Not real likely, but no risk either.
  19. I'm not president of the Gary Sanchez Fan Club or anything, but I'm not nuts about Contreras playing all four vs SF including the day game following a night game & each of the first two in Denver.
  20. My vision of that tux still hanging in your closet has been forever ruined.
  21. Zack Agnos is starting for Colorado, He's a RHP with rather unimpressive #'s who will be making his 2nd start of the year. My biggest concern is that sometimes an unfamiliar hurler gives us fits, at least on the outset. Sal Frelick is 7 for his last 18, including a few walks w/only 2 Ks. As per usual he hasn't struck out much all season, but I'll stand short of saying that there's been poor batted ball luck for him because until recently his contact has been pretty weak. All things considered, the guy approaches his ABs much too well for the lousy first one-third of his season to be indicative & hopefully he's starting to get on a roll. Not to mention no one on the roster comes close to him as a RF. Sticking with him through the rough patch is/was a no-brainer.
  22. More often than not the Brewers seem to have a knack for nailing the 'buy low, sell high' deals, and I think this one would've hit had Zerpa not gone down.
  23. I agree with much of this. He WAS throwing harder in some of his earlier starts. I too thought his last couple innings were not 'great' but better.
  24. When the sked was made out for this season the A's included six games in LV as sort of a 'preview' for when they move there. After the Brewers leave the Rockies come in for three. And I was wrong about it being the first MLB games in the city. Apparently the A's played there in 1996 when renovations were going on at the Coliseum.
  25. That's what surprised me yesterday. Not that he struggled; we've all seen that. But he was hit pretty hard. One thing that should NEVER happen to him is the 0-2 RBI base hit he allowed to a guy like Julien. Clearly with a bit more good fortune health-wise on the pitching staff he's starting in Nashville. There's much worse things for a young pitcher than to be learning on-the-job with Hook & Henderson nearby, but if we can get a replication of what Gasser did this week & someone else follows suit maybe a refresh in AAA would help him. And of course fingers crossed re Woodruff.
