  1. That didn't sound right to me, because we bought our then new house in '99 & I specifically remember watching it there. It was 2000. I think that was the era when they went out to Vegas or Hawaii every four years or so. Or your long-term memory is as shot as mine & you first-born is actually four years younger?.
  2. I don't have a strong feeling as to who, but I think they wind up acquiring someone via FA who to most fans will be underwhelming. The caveat is if Burnes or Woodruff gets dealt to Toronto with one of their catchers included in the package coming back. Wouldn't bet on Narvaez staying here, but also wouldn't totally rule it out. Sure would be nice if Feliciano could start to make some defensive headway. Would make a nice bridge to Quero.
  3. Yep, UW has developed strong inroads in that state over the years. I was actually impressed with Ben Johnson, despite the W-L record. He certainly didn't have a whole lot to work with. It's funny, some of UM's fans try to run down Gard, yet Johnson is probably more like Gard in program-building philosophy than anyone they've had in recent memory. What works against them is, the Minneapolis area produces tons of talent but it's kinda like Chicago in regards to Illinois or DePaul. So many people mine that area that it's unrealistic to "build a wall" & keep 'em all home. Feel free to head over to North this winter & give us updates on how Robison looks.?
  4. I've always, even then, had the dry sense of humor that allowed me to get away with it. Of course eventually making said bed was a good insurance policy just in case.?
  5. When I was a kid, my mom would tell me to make up my bed. I'd tell her "Why? I don't have to. It's real".
  6. Pretty impressive pipeline UW has developed with Lakeville North HS (MN). They just received a commitment from 2024 wing Jack Robison. Same HS as Nate Reuvers, Tyler Wahl & '23 recruit Nolan Winter.
  7. I think you're on to something re Hiura. His main trade value would have to be as part of a package. Taylor as part of a package would also make sense, but I can't get the feeling out of my head that one of the "Nashville four" OFs could be included in a deal (and I wish I COULD get it out of my head because I don't want to see it). As for Chourio/Burnes, the "someone like Burnes" would have to have at least a few years of control, and a couple of their top 3-4 prospects would have to be added. And that's from an organization with a strong farm system. Hell, I don't even know if I'd do it then.
  8. I give Bielema a lot of credit for what he's put together down there. But I don't know if he has all that much of an advantage in Chicago. I mean, EVERYBODY goes there to recruit; lots of coaches have connections there. And there's always been sort of a disconnect between the NE corner of that state with the rest of Illinois. It's a mammoth area though. I'm sure his current success will give him inroads to some extent.
  9. Me too. It's like people sitting around in a bar. Person #1 says something dumb. Person #2 makes a joking reference to it, to person #3. That doesn't always translate well on a message board. Sorry.
  10. Right now, unless it's mopup time if you see Franklin on the field it's a pretty good bet they have something dialed up for him. I'm hoping Rucci makes it back soon as he's more of an everydown TE. The physical resemblance to Beckum.....good call!
  11. Agreed. Even though the situations are quite different, I liken it to the "I don't want the Brewers in the playoffs b/c they have no chance" argument. Their chances of winning would be as close to nil as you can get, but if they win out & that's the reward, I'll take it. And in that scenario, it's not like it would be their last game.
  12. Yep. You could keep a week-by-week report card of Mertz, good stuff/bad stuff, and in recent weeks the first column Is getting larger & larger, while the second one is shrinking. They're rolling him out more, which he seems to be really comfortable with (I'm guessing that was something Chryst just didn't like him doing). What makes it more impressive is he's doing this w/o a TE presence in the pass game. Jaylyn Franklin caught one ball, but likely doesn't block nearly well enough to see the field regularly. Hoping Hayden Rucci makes it back at some point.
  13. Here's what I took away from Saturday: Purdue scoring 24 obviously doesn't illustrate how good the defense was. I've seen improvement from a lot of people--Thompson, Goetz, Chaney, Tatum Grass, Rodas Johnson, both ILB's. They made a lot of plays collectively, & that's with Herbig not being out there much. The last Purdue TD could've easily been their only one. It was also terrific seeing Alex Smith running around being effective. I'd like to think the O-line still has more to give, consistency-wise, but that could be a case of unfair comparison to the lines that preceded them. Just like Alex Smith on D, it's great to see Mahlmann back. A few miscues, but certainly trending upward. The only real consistent thing Purdue had was the middle seam, usually with the TE. A lot of the time this was available due to blitzing one/both ILBs, which is something that shouldn't happen as consistently when Herbig is 100% as they then have a blitzing option off the edge. As bad as the TD call was on the 4th-down stop (and it was bad), the OPI was almost as bad. Eschenbach did nowhere near enough to be flagged on that. Every one of their remaining games could, on paper, be a win. That doesn't mean it will happen, though. Leonhard preaches "clean" football. They've largely accomplished that the last three weeks, but a bad quarter or 2 (MSU) can cost you. Under the circumstances, I like the bye week popping up here.
  14. The comment had nothing to do with the quality of your post, which I thought contained some good stuff. That's why I only quoted the part I was referring to. The reference, (I thought) was obvious & was meant to have fun with some of the absurdity that's been going on, which has been anything but imaginary.
  15. Don't stop now. You only have 249 more to go.⏳
  16. Needs more time. He recently added 50 more to the list.?
  17. No doubt. The things he brought to the table day after day, it's hard to put into words how valuable that is to a coaching staff. From what I've heard Klesmit comes the closest to replacing what Davison brought. I think you'll see Brad on a coaching staff somewhere eventually.
  18. It's the bane of internet message boards, there's always going to be someone like that. It's best to just accept it for its' only value.... comic relief. It certainly DOES sound like some sort of irrational bitterness. The next step, of course, is denial.
  19. As RedStick referred to, I think you'll see some interesting combinations esp when Crowl sits. Don't know if Gilmore elevates his offensive game---he might--but he is probably going to give them a lot of minutes. If Ilver & Hodges can guard & rebound they'll contribute. The perimeter will be an interesting unfold. No one really saw Neath at his best all last year, so that's a situation to keep an eye on. With Jordan Davis it's about consistency. What is the level he can play at, where he can be there 80-90% of the time? No one quite knows that, yet. I expect Klesmit to start; I think he fits the program & what Greg Gard wants pretty well. With Essigian, it's all about how quickly he can figure out the defensive end enough to hold his own. The way he can shoot it's tempting to think he may get a lot of minutes right away & learn the other end "on the fly" but that's not how they usually do things. He's definitely an exciting kid. Bottom line, if Crowls' added strength & bulk translate positively they have a very impressive 3-man nucleus. And looking ahead, they just completed a real solid recruiting class for '23.
  20. I guess it's possible. But the NFL would need to undergo a massive expansion first, to accommodate the other 150 QBs in college who are better than him.?
  21. This is my first time this season looking at the QB ratings. I'm surprised DeVito isn't higher.
  22. About 25 years ago UW played a football game at the U of Hawaii. None of the major players in televised sports picked the game up, but one of the stations in the Milwaukee area (don't remember who) picked up the local feed from Honolulu & televised it. Some local play-by-play guy who I assume usually does UH sports, wasn't very well-versed on the Badgers but simply called the game as best as he could w/o marketing himself or working with the color analyst to show everyone how scintillatingly brilliant they both were. And no 4 or 5 person crew song-and-dancing us through halftime. Thoroughly enjoyable.
  23. The root problem for teams in the Brewers' financial situation is that I don't think MLB sees anything as needing to be fixed. And the MLBPA certainly doesn't.
