  1. Pos players will get time off, for sure. Starters will be kept on whatever sked they're already on, and probably will depart after X number of pitches. I guess we just have different definitions of coasting. The people out there will be trying to win games, and thanks to the infinite wisdom of MLB there won't be many to choose from who won't be on the post-season roster. Remember the lineup for the Cubs in the next-to-last game of 2008? Not as easy to do that nowadays. But you're right, folks will certainly get some time off.
  2. FWIW, in grade school science I learned the Earth wasn't perfectly round but wasn't familiar with the word "ellipsoid". So I shared my newfound info by saying it was kinda dumpy. I think it's wrong to defend the Miami offense in any way. I also think it's wrong to assume Houston is coasting. If you guys think THIS is a contentious fan board, boy could I show you some examples.....
  3. You look at his ABs, and you just KNOW he's going to make more consistent contact down the road. And he's hitting .300 or whatever it is NOW. Throw in the speed, and I'm excited. And yeah, Frelick looked for all the world like he was in front of him for a callup. Just a lot to look forward to.
  4. Yeah, Tyler could certainly play overseas. Zack Showalter spent some time there. Hell, I wouldn't rule out him making a G-League roster if he was compelled to. Happened to be at Mitchell International a few years ago, the team that plays out of Wisconsin had just arrived from somewhere & out pops Vitto Brown. I just don't know if Tyler is a "chase the dream" type of guy w/regards to the NBA.
  5. Sweet?, The thing with Happ, his fifth year was due to the redshirt so it's a little different situation. This is something sprung on Wahl after setting up whatever academic roadmap he may have had. After originally not considering it (he & Crowl both), I'm thrilled that it's a possibility.
  6. That's how many would view it. It may be the way Wahl views it. But he's been an actual student-athlete for, when it's all said & done, four years now. This ain't Kentucky. A degree is a means to an end to him; if it wasn't he would've gone somewhere else. I'm not predicting one way or the other, just saying it isn't as cut & dried as it might seem.
  7. It would make sense for you & I, but UW has a history of guys who usually have pretty promising lives waiting for them once they leave college. He strikes me as someone who would be ready for what's next after four years. I think he's a finance major. Would love to see him continue the ride though. Any NBA potential he might have would, I assume, come from being someone who can guard multiple spots on the floor. But that's pretty specialized.
  8. Everyone who played in 2020 was given the extra year of eligibility if they wanted it. All indications were that Tyler Wahl was leaving after this, his SR year. There are now rumblings that he MIGHT be thinking about coming back for 23-24. That would be huge.
  9. If they fall short, Thursday's game should be looked at as the last of many chances. The 4-0 lead in game 2 vs NYM, the 6-1 lead late at Colorado, Haders' late meltdown in SF. Looking at the big picture as this is really a "big picture" kinda team when they've been successful. That's pitching & defense. Neither has been at the level we're used to, and the hitting hasn't been able to make up for it.
  10. Got it. It was obvious he was only warming to come in "after the fact" if needed. Just the opposite of the night before when Devin came in in the 7th, which tells me he might be quicker to push buttons now that we're getting down to a precious few. But he didn't want to go to Bush after he threw (and struggled) last night, and probably wanted to save Box for the ninth as DW was probably down. If they had LHH lined up in the 3-4 spots I suspect we would've seen Milner.
  11. I thought Topa was throwing in the 8th? Even so it really makes no difference. CC is a disciple of the "it's (fill in the blank)'s inning" philosophy & he usually won't make a change until after the damage. Admittedly it's bitten him in the arse a lot this year.
  12. In both pitch & location, they doubled up. Threw the same thing on 1-1 & got a swing-and-miss. I suspect that's why they came back with it. Certainly not trying to defend it.
  13. OK, didn't see how hard he was (or wasn't) running to 3B. Maybe you're right.
  14. I said a while ago, if he wins he has the courage of his convictions. If he loses he's pigheaded. Obstinate often seems to describe it. But his options aren't exactly the best (referring to the lineup). As far as the way he managed tonight, my biggest question was the removal of Lauer after 5 innings. Maybe he was at the end due to his recent return from the IL, I don't know. I DO know that if someone is dealing like he was against us & leaves after five innings I'm thrilled. I'm fine with staying with Peralta. Anderson has hurt us in the past despite his subpar season & he wanted no part of him. Frankly I'd rather face Garcia there; the guy obviously isn't playing at 100%. It didn't work out. The End.
  15. On the hit by Urias, from Wongs' vantage point at second I'm sure it looked like a possible catch, and he can't get too far off the bag since it was hit to LF. Even with the bobble I didn't expect him to be able to score. With you on the Hiura steal attempt.
  16. Final WC spot btwn east coast team & team from the midwest not in Chicago. I watch ESPN if they're airing a college hoops or college football game that I want to see. Period.
  17. Personally I'd like to know the # of times in the last few decades the opponent needed to score late, and never got the ball back because we kept it from them by constantly moving the chains. It's a high number, and many of those folks were ranked. I mean, plenty of teams that throw the ball a lot don't RUN for 200 yards vs ranked opponents. You do what you do well. I do think their passing attack will look better as the O-line gets sorted out & healthy. A big concern is losing Cundiff. They've developed a real comfort zone in recent years throwing to the TE & I just don't know what they'll get from Rucci & Eschenbach.
  18. It would've been especially fun to nudge out SD for the last spot given the Hader deal. But overtaking Philly would be entertaining as well knowing the fan base in that town.
  19. I was at the yard tonite. Was b****ing at Adames from the moment he released that "feed", if you can call it that. I never thought it possible to be so upset at a Brewer DP to get out of a jam. Wong saved the day, big time. Great AB by Yelich from where I was sitting. Not easy to come back from 0-2 there, much less draw the walk. There's takes, and then there's really good takes. Don't think I've ever been at a game where I saw so many combined good ABs by light-hitting catchers. Was actually surprised Williams struck out Knizner in the 8th. He was staying on the ball & driving it to the middle of the diamond all night. I wonder if any fans asked for refunds because they didn't get to see any of the illustrious icons (Wainwright, Molina, Pujols) perform. I guess we should just be happy to be in the same building as such majesty.
  20. Agree, it's a VERY pretty swing. Here's what might be the most impressive thing: He advances to full-season A-ball, and while the overall numbers took a bit of a dip which is no catastrophe considering his age, he still flashed the power. That seems to be a common theme this season in the Brewer organization. Guys are advanced, sometimes very aggressively, but do pretty well at the next level. Good to see.
  21. Really disheartening to hear about Felicianos' defensive struggles. I was hoping it was overblown, especially after the game or two he caught for Milwaukee; I thought he was generally pretty solid. But 14 PB........uggh.
  22. I mean.......can we take away the top two strengths of 90% of everyone else in CFB & judge how THEY would do, as well?
  23. I'd say more like apples & watermelons. One school recruits. The other selects. Urban Meyer left Bowling Green for $$$, of course, and there's nothing wrong with that. But he also realized the built-in advantages at FLA or OSU, not the least of which is the national media doing your recruiting for you whenever a kid turns on the TV. Not to even mention the difference in academic standards & admissions. If he went away from a prior philosophy, it's because he was at one of the few schools where he could, and do it successfully. At the same time, he's STILL recruiting high level linemen too. Here's Kirk Herbstreit in a nutshell: Logan Brown has been a disappointment since coming to Madison. He only started Saturday due to injuries to others. But when talking about the UW O-line early in the game, he's talking up Logan Brown because he was "a five-star recruit". We all realize it's cool to actually get paid to do what you do Kirk, but maybe at least put in a little prep work.
  24. I don't know exactly how much popular lore exists that Sveum inspired that team. I simply believe it was more a case of getting rid of Ned than anything. His success in KC in the next decade can't be denied, but in '08 it just smelled too much to me like a repeat of 2007, when they were in position to reach the post season & fell short. All teams feel pressure, but rather than be a release valve to a team that hadn't played playoff baseball in decades I feel he added to it. They won 6 of their last 7 games in '08. I'm confident they wouldn't have done that w/o the change. As to this season, I think 20 or 25% chance sounds about right. If they do fall short IMO it's the work of a couple recent blown leads (Colorado & at home vs NYM) added to their horrible stretch out of the trade deadline.
  25. Here's hoping Devanney has gone from "late consideration" to someone they're planning to protect.
