  1. The bottom of the ninth was a perfect example of the benefit of having a plus-plus changeup, even when you choose not to prioritize it. Definitely in the back of their minds.
  2. Ten day IL for Renfroe. Mathias added. It keeps the L-R makeup of the roster the same; still, I'd love to be a fly on the wall of David Dahls' locker right now.
  3. My top 20 list would be more-or-less a derivative of what others have posted. But I just wanted to second the above. Character has always been a priority in this regime, and it seems like they've done a superb job with the "AAAA" guys. It's nice to not have to force feed a prospect, and while we all hope the injury bug doesn't bite hard it feels good to have a Mathias or a Dahl to help fill the gaps if needed. Picking up Kelley already reaped a benefit.
  4. Knowing Counsell, he'll probably feel like he's standing on the field naked if he can "only" carry 13 pitchers?. Seriously though, this IL stint for Adames might be Kestons' last real good chance to get a toehold on a roster spot this year, barring injury.
  5. ......And OK with Strider being used last night w his team down a run. Him starting today, or coming in with us trailing? No thanks.
  6. Been watching the organizational box scores regularly. Interesting how they are trying to build versatility moving Wilson, Valerio & Turang around the diamond. Today they did something cool with Frelick/Wiemer.......they played CF-RF, then flip flopped. Tyler Black seems to be flying under the radar a bit at Wisconsin. Well over .300 & driving in runs.
  7. The personalities also played a large part in the love Brewer fans had for that group. You can't get much more "Milwaukee" than guys like Vuckovich, Thomas, Caldwell, Gantner et al. A former co-worker played in a rec league years later with Charlie Moore. Had nothing but good things to say about him. Throw in the local sports legend who took over as manager & led them to the series. I think that group will always be celebrated as if they won it all.
  8. I follow the box scores of the minor league affiliates regularly, sometimes you can get clues as to what the organization is thinking. I'll be watching to see if he plays any 1B at N'ville. Would be a very soft platoon IMO if he ever replaces Hiura on the roster, but he's played there before. Keston needs to lock into the "RF mindset" w/regards to his swing or he'll be in trouble.
  9. On this vein, I would move the mound back (someone said 5 ft; I think that's way too much. Maybe 2-3 ft). That throws a bone to the hitters. To even it out I'd de-juice the ball (you say it has been de-juiced? Fine; de-juice it a little more). Fewer K's, and fewer walks as pitchers can be more aggressive since they don't have to worry about every mistake being hit 455 ft. I think these moves would result in something closer to the game I grew up loving. I'd also can the stuff Manfred has thrust on us (ghost runner, 3 batter minimum, etc). This might also have the added effect of eliminating much of the shifting. You'll be a lot more receptive to hitting 'em where they ain't if you're no longer prostrating yourself before the launch-angle god. If 25 or 30 home runs were considered a lot, imo the other aspects of the game gain prominence.
  10. I feel like Wilson is flying under the radar a bit. He was putting together a nice 2021 before his surgery.
  11. I'll admit I didn't realize he's spent so much time leading off. I'll stand by what I said though. On this team as currently constructed I don't think that's a good spot for him.
  12. I hate to think where we would've been last night had Cutch not been in a position to drive in some runs. I get it to a point....Counsell doesn't feel good about Wong leading off vs LHP & apparently no longer feels good about Cain being up there. I just think Cutch is ill-fitted for the leadoff spot & needs to be further down if his full value is to be realized.
  13. Guys move up or down a spot or three based on who's throwing that day. That's as old as the hills. But leading off vs hitting fourth isn't a little odd to you?
  14. I know many folks think who hits where in the batting order is immaterial, but I'm no fan of this McCutchen hitting cleanup vs RH & leading off vs LH nonsense. Otherwise I think Umphrey is correct in that they want to put themselves in the best spot they can, then strike the mid-season deal(s). That's been their M.O. for awhile, will continue to be, and IMO should be.
  15. Apparently that's the case, but I would have a hard time seeing them make the deal, then simply dropping Renfroe. Taylor has no upside? None? The OF situation all comes back to Yelich & his performance since signing his deal, and Cain being less productive, which you pretty much had to live with since I doubt you could've signed him had you not gone five years.. I still feel getting out from under JBJ's last year was a terrific maneuver, and as others have pointed out let's not bury Renfroe after 4 games.
  16. So be it. Frankly I'm not surprised someone on here would be more in tune with that stuff than I, as the financial aspects and contractual and union-management details of the game bore me to tears.
  17. It's not like they went out & signed them both for 17 million, and could've just taken the money & signed Castellanos instead. You don't trade for Renfroe, you still have JBJ & his contract. I don't defend every move this front office has made, but that trade made a lot of sense. If you want to claim that they should've passed on Cutch, kept Bradley & then still had the ability to get Castellanos to say yes, have at it. But I don't think there's anyone here who can say that with certainty.
  18. I agree. People rail against "change for the sake of change". But, unfair or not, nowhere in the history of this planet has that strategy worked more often than in sports. Let's get Urias back in the fold, get some games under our belt & see what happens. Today stunk, but after the first few innings I thought the quality of most of the AB's was OK on Thursday.
  19. That's true. But one team is taking advantage of that fact, and the other isn't. Not that it would've made a difference today, but sometimes we expand a strike zone all by ourselves when hitting.
  20. Not necessarily a favorite, but I always remember this: in '73 or '74, we were at a doubleheader vs Cleveland. Near the end of game 1, for whatever reason Del Crandall put his DH in the game defensively. This put the pitcher in the batting order, and Eduardo Rodriguez stepped up & tripled to right-center. Funny the crap that sticks in your brainpan.
  21. Oh no, it isn't a "bad" thing at all. In my world, it's the engine that drives an entire offense. I just want to see how close he can get to 2018/2019 Yelich. If there's a return to even some similarity, he'll be in the 2 or 3 hole, and IMO should be. Let's face it......he very well could stay there regardless. If he's closer to what we saw last year going forward your argument should pick up more steam though.

  23. The back issues may be there to stay, but he's further removed from the kneecap injury (and any possible effects, mental or otherwise, that had on his swing), further removed from the abbreviated joke that was the 2020 season, and has a new group of hitting coaches in his ear. Let's watch things play out before turning him into a leadoff guy.
