  1. A comment was made about this team being built of "no superstars". Let's not forget, in the summer of '19, if asked to project that team three years into the future the brain trust might've put two guys.....Yelich & Hiura.....into that category w/o subjecting themselves to a rubber room. We all know how that turned out & it's tough to overcome when BOTH fail to meet expectations. It led to two in-season acquisitions, both very astute trades IMO. Still, this offense probably won't be at the level some want to see it at unless we spend more prospect capitol than I'm willing to give up. The Benintendis & Bells of the world----it's just really difficult to surmise what they would cost at this time. Something almost certainly will happen since there's an overflow of talent in the OF throughout the system.
  2. I saw Erik Kratz hit .625 in a division series. I guess that illustrates it about as well as anything.
  3. It's a funny game. It always matters, but sometimes it can be detrimental (DP opposed to swinging bunt hit, lineout carrying to an OF'er as opposed to something on the handle falling in, etc) Am I saying we should go out there & NOT try to hit the ball hard? No. But it isn't part & parcel to success. Not to speak for 888, but I think that's what he meant. I've always felt baseball can't be fit comfortably into a math equation like some want it to.
  4. + 1000. Having said that, the options have been slim lately. Once the roster fleshes out a little bit this week, we'll see what changes are made, if any. LH going for Philly Tuesday, so we may not see Yelich anywhere 1-9.
  5. Another factor to support this point is that we now have a DH in the NL. And it's not like we have someone filling that role on a regular basis.
  6. Nor for me, as a starting SS. But I felt he received way too much criticism last season from fans. For the role he's asked to fill when on the roster I think he's fine. It's just that he has to be a regular for a day or three because apparently it's vital that Adames have 21 days instead of 19, or 20 instead of 18, or whatever.
  7. Personally I'd be OK with that, but I see no chance Turang comes up for only 2-3 days.
  8. At the time Reyes was added they were looking at a few more days of Urias at SS then Adames returning. No way Turang comes up to fill a bench role. As others have said, the time to pull the Turang trigger would've been when Adames first hit the IL, give him regular time at SS & leave Urias at third. They chose not to.
  9. See? This is the problem with all you young whippersnappers being fine with 13 or 14 pitchers on a roster. In the old days, you had John Felske sitting out in the bullpen eating sunflower seeds. Problem solved.? Seriously, I noticed Feliciano wasn't in the lineup last night for N'ville. Was wondering if that meant anything.
  10. The game of baseball is just some unbelievable stuff sometimes. Speechless.
  11. It's typical for our announcers to make the opposing pitcher out to be Cy Young when the bats are silent. But now we're to the point where Garcia throws a hanging breaking pitch, Taylor is fooled by it, and Schroeder refers to it as "nasty".?
  12. Didn't trust his stuff in the first, walked three & allowed 2 runs (1 earned). He settled down in the second, got 3 ground balls, and I knew if he was going to be successful that's what it would look like---both halves of the plate, sinkers, throw strike one, lotsa ground balls. And that's exactly what happened through the seventh. I was impressed.
  13. Not defending Counsell, or Cain for that matter, but my focus going into the top of the 10th was "Can Cain get a bunt down? Can he get one on the ground on the right side?" I never thought for one second he would be pinch hit for, because Craigy just ain't gonna do that.
  14. That's the Gist of it. The time to bring Turang on board would've been when Adames was IL'd, so he gets the lions' share of SS for 2 weeks & you can leave Urias at 3B. When they didn't do that, you knew you were going to see a game or 2 of Brosseau at SS.
  15. It was with one out, which you see virtually all the time in that situation. A bobble, and maybe he scores, but he won't be able to if he doesn't take off right away. No bobble. The way tonight unfolded, that's not surprising.
  16. That would load the bases for Happ, who hits LHP very well. I think they were trying to get Morel, then walk two. Wisdom is better vs LH but not on fire. I doubt anyone will ask Counsell about it though.
  17. If it's a one-sided affair, I would almost guarantee it. Otherwise, I suspect Hader & Williams are in "available, but would love to give them one more day" mode. Sanchez & Milner should be good to go as well.
  18. I recall being pretty excited about Jeff D'Amico. It was made more intriguing since he came directly from double-A. Going back a little further, I had high anticipation for the debut of a guy who had "professional hitter" written all over him--Randy Ready.

  20. With the way he's swinging the bat right now Feliciano could factor in next year as well. Sending Caratini down when Severino is eligible just doesn't feel to me like something this organization would do. But I also didn't know he had options remaining. We'll see.
  21. Don't want to read a whole lot into this, but I see this comment & remember how Adames felt ready to play a few days ago. It plays into Counsells' obvious inclination to err on the side of caution....and then some.....w/regards to coming back from injuries, and I wonder if it ticks some players off. I don't even know if I want to be critical, as playing the "long game" has obviously worked well over the past few years. I just find Renfroe's quote rather interesting.
  22. Probably saw Omar in the clubhouse with a styrofoam cup.
  23. As far as a bridge from Lauer to Hader (if needed) we're talking a full 48 hours for Gott so he could be available. Otherwise it's kinda a dice toss. Don't see many matchups for Milner. I actually liked the way Kelley threw last week.
  24. What a terrific job by the pitching staff all week. Ashby, my goodness, I have no idea what his ceiling is. And the moment wasn't too big for Perdomo, which is a huge sign. After we took the lead, I briefly had MLB Network on, and Amsinger said that the problem for San Diego right now is that it's almost Hader time. If Hader was a Yankee or Met, Amsinger would know that Hader was not present, the reason, what hospital room his wife was in, and what Josh had ordered up from the cafeteria.
