    A poor AB. And afterwards, we seemed to change the philosophy after the Nats went to the pen. An awful lot of quick outs vs some mediocre stuff. Almost as if the baseball gods were doling out payback for some really good ABs vs Soroka---who is having a very solid year---during the last homestand.

    Being 15% better than league avg WHILE striking out almost 40% of the time actually makes him a little more intriguing. If he can cut down the K rate.............he may not, lots of guys never do. But the big element in his favor is the severe lack of MLB ABs given the injuries. No one hates guys who can run having trouble making contact more than I do. But all things considered in Mitchells' case, simply labeling him at this point is unfair. If he doesn't get it down to a more manageable # then no, the production isn't sustainable.

    Great point. Except the 'at least' doesn't really belong in the statement IMO. Plus Yelich being gone for what, half of the games? They deserve a lot of credit.

    They've been describing it as a quad for Baddoo. Still claiming June as a possible target for a return. Given Perkins' struggles at the plate & Jones looking overmatched, it would be nice to have another option if needed.

    It looks to me like they'd trust Henderson a bit more than Gasser right now AFA starting & giving them at least a little length. But Drohan or Crow I agree are certainly viable options given the work they've turned in.

    Lotsa coaches/managers have had that philosophy over the years. In Mitchells' case I'd be tempted to amend that to only the 1st strike being for him. And if he's in situations like his last two AB yesterday, maybe all three should be for the team. His problem with contact is I believe a large part of the reason why he's been leading off. Last night the bottom half of the order found itself on base more & the empty swings were magnified. Unless Lara simply can't be denied or he gets hurt again, 2026 looks like a real litmus test for Mitchell. Save for Lockridge taking over some of the ABs vs LHP he'll get a lions' share to show the assets of his game can outshine the warts (or the warts can be lessened).

    Definitely. There's been a lot of talk about the 'hole' in his swing at the top of the zone, but it's not only there TBH. Lots of pressure being put on opponents due to the speed on the roster, provided contact is made. He's failed a # of times, today included, where all you need is that contact, not necessarily a base hit. His lack of touching the ball could've been a killer tonite had it been a closer game.

    It's gotten to the point where I think you really want to get Ashby in the game tonite, even if things are comfy. Four days off is quite a bit for him. Touch & feel.

    I wouldn't like to see it on a regular basis, especially when we get some regulars back. But you're right, there are worse spots for him to be hitting than leadoff. Do whatever damage you can; if you touch air, do it with no one on base. Ideally, 6, 7 or 8 IMO.

    As @Ro Muellermentioned, the numbers aren't as gaudy as Pratt & Williams in recent games but he's quietly heading northward. Yeah, that HR was just pasted.

    Well, if Woodruff has to sit out & Crow is the replacement, he's throwing on the same day so it would be pretty seamless.

    I was talking more about teams that combine tough halfcourt defense with a patient offense. For many teams over the years the two went hand-in-hand because the energy expended on moving their feet, fighting through screens, etc was recovered somewhat by not being up tempo on the other end. This was before the shot clock era, but Al McGuire used to say "You work on defense & rest on offense".

    Me too, to be honest😁. I think the hype of the trade w/NY (Williams) & the contract (Pratt) fueled some of it.

    Unfortunately I don't think there IS much risk, and they realize that. They feel the hardcore fans will never leave, so might as well attract the fair-weather fans, wives, GFs, gamblers, and people with 15 second attention spans with things like an expanded tournament, legalized travelling, shortened shot clocks, making it tougher & tougher to defend because OBVIOUSLY a game with more points scored is a better game, etc. I'd absolutely hate going to quarters. HS ball now plays halves (at least in Wisconsin) after playing quarters for many years so maybe it can be headed off. And yeah, there was no sensible reason to go to a 30-second clock. Teams that wanted to play fast had nothing stopping them. But teams that wanted to play a different tempo were being squeezed as we went from no shot clock, to 45, 35, and now this. I love that so many games are being televised nowadays, but that saturation is a large part of the problem. IMO it's beautiful to watch the intricasies of play on both ends from a team coached by someone like Pete Carrill, Dick Harter, the Bennetts, Don Chaney, etc. But if it isn't must-see TV, screw you, we'll rule-change your style out of vogue. And that's sad. Pardon me, there's kids on my lawn, gotta go.

    For those lamenting about the slow starts for Pratt & Williams in light of the struggles of some of the INFs in Milwaukee----Don't look now but Pratt is 8 for his last 17, with four walks drawn & only one K. Williams is a little more modest but still robust 8-22 with 7 RBI.

    Yeah, the NCAA will make that statement about 36 hours after the first portal kid says he's going to (insert school here) because they offered him the biggest check, instead of the crap written for him by some agent extolling the virtues of the previous school, staff & fans of the team he's leaving, followed by what's becoming the most famous cliche of the decade----"With that being said------". So many of the things the NCAA has done, from rule changes to stuff like this, seems to scream "Let's be more like the NBA". For someone like myself who's felt for many decades that college basketball is a much more pleasing product it's really disgusting.

    Obviously not enough offense tonite, but really not a ton of at-bats that ticked me off in a major way. Mitchell with two ugly trips to the plate, and Contreras' AB after the Turang RBI double was poor. Someone who can effectively hit the ball to the opposite field, with a runner on 2nd & no outs needs to at least give himself a chance to get something he can drive that way, and he never did. Sproat almost gave up a HR to end the 3rd, leading up to the 4-run fourth. Second time through the order was almost as ugly as the 1st time was effective. Work in progress for what appears to be a very talented arm. Rengifo is really seeing the ball well right now. Did I miss the memo that MLB sent out requiring all ground-rule doubles to be called 'automatic doubles'? Maybe I'm guilty of old-school-itis, but it just sounds dumb to me.

    Interesting that they want to maintain 4 LHP in the BP. But I'm not disparaging the move in any way; Fitzpatrick certainly deserves it. Agree with the above comments re Zerpa. Considering how he looked in the WBC & his first few outings of the season it appears to be nothing at all like a phantom injury.

    Blue? Heck no. It's impossible to put numbers on it AFA how many runs it's worth but he absolutely could be an influence as a hitter for Ortiz, bases loaded or not.

    I could see him possibly staying up here & playing sparingly as opposed to some other candidates. A lot of that would depend on his work ethic/preparedness on a daily basis AFA being able to 'stay ready' w/o regular ABs. Agree with your other points 100%.
