  1. Wow. Didn't realize that. "But.....but......he's such a bigger name than Monasterio!!!!!"
  2. Lots of things to like about the last two days. But perhaps my favorite is that we played a very good team in their place, they got 5 excellent innings from their starter yesterday & 6+ terrific innings today-----and Peralta & Preister matched it, and then some. Very rare tough day for Turang. I wanted to see Durbin bunt after Collins reached when it was still a 1-1 game, but that's where thinking 2-3 moves ahead comes in. If there was a RISP w/two outs they had the lefty all warmed & ready to face Turang, who just wasn't seeing the ball today. That might've played in. Wow, adding a potent bat in the top third of the order really fleshes the lineup out. Looks like 2nd wind time for Koenig. Very impressive inning.
  3. I was one lobbying for IKF, but in my world he would've replaced Seigler, with Monasterio still here. I can see why the team may have balked at that & rather had a LH bat to share 3B with Durbin. But to me the experience/INF versatility from IKF would've trumped that. Bottom line, Monasterio has been an absolute revelation.
  4. No one has to be removed from the roster to make room for Hoskins assuming he's added after 9/1. The way things look now it'll be Seigler OR Bauers in jeopardy. Judging by how some people have been taking ground balls in unfamiliar spots it appears they're considering either option.
  5. 100% agree. In the absence of Ortiz he's been a true hero (just don't know about the 'cult' part lol). Goes to show you how things evolve in the ebb & flow of a season. To think Vinny Capra & Ollie Dunn were in Yankee Stadium to open the year while Monasterio was in AAA........
  6. Got it, and I agree. Just saying the ones from WI or elsewhere that don't see the field immediately just aren't quite as likely to stick around for developmental time like they were pre-portal. It's true everywhere else as well, but for a place known for coaching kids up it's that much bigger of a change. Yeah, we're in Classic 8 (WI) country, arguably the best HS FB league in the state. And indeed there does seem to be a dry spell talent-wise.
  7. I don't think it'll be by committee AFA the 9th is concerned. It'll be Uribe & if/when available, Megill. Interesting point re the lack of a traditional 'mop up' type guy. I thought if he hangs around on the roster it could be Fedde.
  8. The other day, I thought it would be a great idea if this winter Misiorowski visited Nolan Ryan at the Ewing Ranch or wherever he lives & pick his brain about the guys' workout regimen, one flamethrower to another. It obviously worked wonders for him
  9. So I guess the only guy worthy of getting tased today is Ashby. So much movement, but the guy can drive you nuts sometimes. Wow, Isaac Collins. Lather, rinse, repeat. Three smoke jobs to RF. Hopefully he's locking back in. If they lost, I was all set to b**** about the strike zone for Bieber. Not that guys with quality reputations don't get borderline calls but I thought I was watching Greg Maddux there for awhile. Compounded by Peralta not really getting the same zone. Fun game. Seemed to be quite a bit of Brewer fans in the house.
  10. It's probably academic because I'm guessing he'll get chosen before we have a chance to claim him, but FWIW he has reverse splits this year--.280 vs RHP.
  11. I noticed Kiner-Falefa was just let go. I have no idea if he'd get down to the Brewers before getting snapped up though. If it was an either-or yes I'd take IKF over Urias.
  12. Would part of the problem be that the 2-3 star kids in past years were under the wing of a coaching staff that was exceptional at developing? Or that kids of that ilk are no longer going to stay in one place long enough to get developed because they can leave w/o having to sit out? Could be either, or both. I know that when you bring in a replacement from another school that's played for 2-3 years, you may be able to tweak a little but for the most part you're getting what you're getting. It's why my biggest hope for the defensive lineman they added is that they can occupy blockers so the LBs can make plays.
  13. Not to steer this away from what it is---a FB thread---but basketball has been much less 'unsexy' in recent years w/regard to the type of players they're going after & getting, while still having a firm handle on the "developmental program" aspect. Combined with an excellent coach, staff & philosophy, while smoothly transitioning to the portal & pay era has left the program in a pretty strong spot. I agree that NIL isn't a good excuse for FB. Bringing in a new coach that made some obvious hiring mistakes on his staff, while at the same time enduring the changes to the recruiting landscape w/o having anyone directly involved in state ties (still important even if it's less so than years ago) leads to a continuity challenge, which they still seem to be fighting heading into year three.
  14. With the state of the OL, I think they're going to need help blocking in both the run game & pass pro from guys like Acker, Yacamelli & the TEs. I don't know if Stec is physical enough for that, and in the past I never noticed a lot from Ashcraft in that regard. But yeah, Stec seems to have good hands & looked like he could find seams. Here's hoping they give you a good effort down there in a couple weeks.
  15. Other than QB I don't know how much NIL money goes into FB. In hoops it's so much easier for one or two players to make a huge difference on a team, and therefore demand a payday. Flip side of course is that there are so many more on a FB roster. I'm just not sure how much most of them can command. Like in basketball, I'm sure many of these portal guys wind up hustling to find a spot--anywhere. That's the sidebar to the story that you don't hear about.
  16. The only good thing I saw re the OL was that it seemed to wear down the front seven of the Redhawks late in the game. Other than that, not good. Heinzen had a rough debut. I'll give the group time to mesh, but they might not see a more vulnerable defensive front than what they saw tonite w/the possible exception of next week. Despite not a lot of help I thought all three TBs ran hard & given the circumstances were effective. And IF there's a run game able to at least partially occupy a defense I think O'Neil would suffice. His feet got a little happy at times but that's understandable. Looked very adept finding the correct seam on the QB draw. I also liked how they occasionally used Jackson Acker at a traditional RB spot as a blocker. Hard to gauge the defense because Miami just had too many new parts to sustain anything consistently. But that being said they showed a real ability to make plays from the LB corps. Alliegro we knew about. Cheeks looked a little more consistently disruptive, and Reiger stood out. And I think the secondary may hold up pretty well, especially if Fourqurean is allowed to play.
  17. I can't say I'm "OK" with it, but after 14-0 along with the long stretch of games there was going to be some revision. So four games left in this stretch, Chourio was back in the dugout today, everything we're hearing about Ortiz sounds positive, and if Vaughn is leaking oil there's a veteran bat waiting to help out at 1B, probably on Monday.
  18. If Chi wins say 2/3 in Denver but they're all 10-8 type games that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
