He has an ERA in AAA of just under 1.00, and his WHIP is just a little over 1. In 90 minor league games his career ERA is 1.22. He was lousy when he was here, but made some adjustments that have apparently helped with command. His jury is still out, but being as good as he's been in his Mi League career can't be ignored. If someone as talented as Corbin Burnes can struggle like he did in '19, certainly he's susceptible too.

Agree with you there. I'd have gone with Yoho. What it 'reveals' is not trusting Yoho in a 1-0 game, and believing Payamps would be more likely to throw strikes vs the bottom part of their order. Which he probably was. There are always reasons for these decisions, and many times we don't understand what they are, or aren't privy to them. But yeah, I'd have gone with Yoho too.

Chourio is NOT going to play CF at this point nor should he. And if Frelick plays CF that weakens you defensively at two spots (I know no one likes to think of that side of the ball, but it's vastly important). Thus Perkins. The other two don't even come close to playing every night.

Tell me who was available & what it would've taken to get that player, and I'll have an opinion. The problem is, you can't. Perhaps they could've done more but w/o knowing the above it's just a bunch of 😫MOVE THE NEEDLE!!!!!😫 hot air. Miller was on the IL at the time of the trade, yes. Guys go off the IL with no recurring problems all the time. Sucks when you're a GM & your crystal ball is on the fritz.

We can't complain about the large zone today since it was there for both sides. But Suarez did a much better job of maximizing it. Not that Peralta wasn't excellent, but the handful of uncompetitive pitches is always going to make the difference in him getting those extra 3-4 outs that the BP now has to pick up. As for Suarez, he should shut down anyone when the zone is this large. He played it really well. No complaints about the process of the two ABs w/the runners on 2nd & 3rd w/less than two out, even if the results weren't there. Durbin settled into looking to go to RF--which you had to do VS Suarez--got the pitch, and hit it right at the 2B. Even Jansen took a good approach trying to lift, just got too much underneath it. Even so, if it's me I send Contreras. With his setup & arm, Bader probably throws him out. But to me that's a better risk then hoping for the 2-out hit. It's too bad because both those ABs were better than some of the ones we put up vs their pen. You could make a real solid argument that the pitches Myers threw in the Turner AB where he drove in the run were some of the best he made his entire outing. Problem was, it was Turner. Zastryzny looked terrific. The lineup today was what I anticipated except I thought Turang would play. All you have to do is see what Suarez does vs LHH & factor in the strike zone today, to know that there weren't going to be any easy answers.

Throughout this organization you hear so many cases of an adjustment, a tweak, a subtle change re pitchers. And it almost always seems to result in improvement. The change in his setup on the rubber, the 'baby sweeper'-------glad to hear he's adjusting & constantly working to get better.

You new here??😛. It's normal to speculate about this stuff, actually. But when debating it, you gotta look at the 40-man, look at where you are in the pecking order regarding waiver pickups..........the options are a little more complicated than saying 😫ANYBODY BUT😫.............!!!!! Like you, I'm not president of Bauers' fan club or anything. And if Black was showing more consistency I think he'd get some consideration. And maybe he still might. He'd certainly be a decent PR option. It is what it is.

Bauers doesn't need to be run for. He's not a burner but not slow, & is a pretty good baserunner. The other two? Good point. They're GOING to have a LHH on the bench. Would you rather have Seigler, or Black?

He doesn't really need to be all that versatile on a playoff roster. Unless we're worried about having a 3rd catcher (which I doubt) they'll be covered defensively. And if he's on the roster he'll be their best defensive 1B & it won't be close. I'm not saying that gets him on the field, but with a lead late in a game it just might. They'll want a LHH on the bench, and he's a better option than Seigler. The only other option I see would be Black, who isn't exactly tearing it up in AAA. It's not so much a glowing endorsement of him, you just go with what you have to choose from. Carlos Santana might be here instead, but Chicago claimed him before he got to us.

You don't need 13 pitchers on a playoff roster so it probably isn't between Bauers & Hoskins. My guess is both of them, as well as Vaughn, will make it.

What was going on there, in the 8th Philly had RHH due up that more than likely were NOT getting PH for, hence Uribe. For the 9th, they led off with two RHH that you would be more likely to hit for, and they had three LHH on the bench, Marsh, Kepler, & Stott. By using Koenig you kept them on the bench, and if you get to Schwarber & Harper, Koenig is the guy you want out there anyway.

And they're 4-5 in their last nine games. Sometimes you're made to feel they're being chased by some supreme juggernaut & we have no margin for error.

STOP ANALYZING!!!!!!! WHERE ARE YOUR KNEEJERK MUSCLES!!!!!!!! WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM????? Honestly, Seigler had a very shaky game on the defensive end, and if Urias looks solid in Nashville this week his spot in the postseason is probably in jeopardy. They don't need 3 1B on the roster in October but they want a LHB on the bench & Bauers will probably be it.

Yeah, if you watch the ABs instead of simply looking at the stats, you can see that even with the lack of results he doesn't really fit the typical 'He Sucks!!!!' type of stuff you hear & read. That said, I'm surprised he's out there as often as he is. They have post-season roster decisions to make as to the last couple spots which may have something to do with it.

I think the bigger reason for Hoskins still being in Nashville is they have Bauers, Seigler, and Urias in contention for spots on the postseason roster & are undecided as to which way to go, They want to see Urias play for a week at AAA. They know Hoskins will be on the PS roster & leaving him in Nashville to get regular ABs buys them more time to sort out the above three.

IF he were to start, yes I think Quintana should be the one to follow him. Change of hand & style is about as drastic for an opponent as you can get. Certainly if he relieves you'd want him starting an inning for the reasons you mentioned (save for a runner on 3rd& less than two out; that might work). And not capping him, for sure. Have a plan in place, but if he's rolling throw it out the window.

As hard as he throws & as big & tall as he is, it's probably really tough for him to get the breaking stuff & changeup down into the 80s without severely changing his motion, arm angle etc & tipping it off. As long as the location is good I think the change in velo is acceptable as is. I'm not sure how much a slider at 96 is going to break compared to a normal one though which makes location all the more important. As to his usage in the post season, I think he's a 2-3 inning guy out of the pen as most have said.

Vaughn definitely could use some down time. Like you said, there weren't any alternatives for the longest time w/both Hoskins & Bauers down. In the meantime, when he's at the plate he needs to remember what helped get him the hot streak in the first place. He's been chasing, and he wasn't before. Not going to anoint Bauers or anything, but he was mostly fine yesterday. Worked an 0-2 count full, then chased ball four. Other than that he hit two balls hard & saved a run (at the time) with a play at 1B that Vaughn would've been iffy on, and Hoskins probably doesn't make. I wouldn't be surprised if he's here in October, given the makeup of post-season rosters.

That's those individual posters' problem, really. The FO is going about it in the absolutely correct way. Scouting & drafting, development, choosing the right people to roll the dice on & sign long-term---it's a different world from the teams that can throw money at their problems to cover their mistakes. And all teams to an extent have to get lucky to win it all in a sport with the randomness of baseball. Do we have to maybe get a little luckier, with the soft base hits, the loud outs? With health? And yeah, with a checked-swing call in the 9th inning? I think that's a fair assessment. Like I pointed out earlier, you battle a team like this, try to hold down the top 3-4 hitters----and then Stott, Marsh, & Bader combine for nine hits? Really? It's a tough game, for the players that have to deal with playing almost every day for 6-7 months, and for fans who live & die with each game. It's toughest for the ones who have what I call the 'NFL mentality'---where you can do a complete 180 degree turn attitude-wise after 2 or 3 losses, despite the fact that it's a marathon of a season, not an 18 game thing (or whatever the NFL plays these days). Maybe it's a little easier for me. I enjoy the big picture, the FO decisions & maneuvering. I appreciate the hard work & dedication that goes into accomplishing what they have & putting themselves in the position they're in despite having one hand tied behind their back. It's damned impressive.

That happened one year under Counsell in the regular season & things just felt a little 'off' when the playoffs started. But it gives you the opportunity to set your rotation & pen so I wouldn't turn it down. Sitting for awhile after the playoffs start sucks. But the $$$$$$ that results in expanded playoffs will always trump that. Baseball got it right when they had the one-gamer (maybe expand to best of three) between two WCs, then that team joins the division champs. Couldn't leave well enough alone.

Henderson has been very good before going on the shelf. But we're talking about someone who throws over 100MPH, and who has a slider in the mid 90s along with a curveball. And a change that he actually locates well most of the time. Unless it's a Steve Dalkowski or a Bruce Williams who makes you scared to stand in the on-deck circle for fear of being hit, that's always going to garner a lot of attention. I think Henderson has a heck of a future if he can stay healthy.

If you emphasize the '6 innings' aspect I'd have to roll the dice with Patrick. But Misiorowski could go five & give up one or zero. Also, Patrick has gone 6 innings once in his last 8 starts for Milwaukee (I don't know what the game logs are in his Nashville starts but he's averaging less than 6 down there). It's a good debate, & if you're looking for a replacement starter Patrick would probably be the guy. Right now they have someone who is dominant when he's on, and they're giving him room to grow within his parameters. In his last nine-and-a-third innings he's walked two. If it was six or seven you'd probably be getting your way.

Great post. I'm not even thinking about Hall but if he makes it back, great. From what I understand Megill has a BP scheduled. It'll be interesting to hear the aftermath of that. I keep hearing from some about Chicago needing to lose, and I keep running to the standings to see just how far out of 1st place we are. WE need to WIN our share of games; period. Nothing has been clinched, which is fine with 23 games left. But you'd think we're being chased by the '27 Yankees.
