    At this point they're worth NOT paying through the nose for a 3B though, at least during the past off-season when the decision was made. I'm with you on the Priester trade. And I hated dealing Reese Olson for Daniel Norris the moment that was done.

    I've mentioned this before---if we have a coach/manager that seems to be exceptionally talented, from rookie ball on up, I think it's an uphill battle to retain them. Quintin Berry is a good example of this. I suspect we've really stepped up to retain Chris Hook, which stretches that budget even thinner. I wouldn't mind if LeBoeuf was let go. But the "anyone would be better" lament is usually a lesson in futility.

    A reasonable point given Quintanas' experience plus the low pitch count. Flip side, the move worked. Mears came in & shut down the threat if not for a ruling that belongs in tee ball.

    I can't get rid of the overriding thought in my head that we were screwed out of two outs on the bases this week, and maybe a win, because Buster Posey wasn't a .208 hitter when he broke his leg. With the team not hitting, you need the elements you CAN rely on to be there just about all the time. And the defense hasn't been. With Chourio, you're down to no better than your 3rd choice in CF. Quintana was pretty damn good tonite. But he walked a leadoff man, which led to a run. It's wrong to expect perfection from the guy, but right now we can't have him doing that. Fair to him? no. But it's more realistic than asking Collins, Ortiz, Durbin, Cameron & the like to 'step up' consistently. And other than shuffling pitchers that are on the 40-man, there's no magic pill in Nashville. In an alternate universe, Black isn't hurt & might be able to return here & get hot for awhile, or Quero didn't miss a full season plus & is more than ready to give Contreras an IL stint, or relegate him to DH for awhile. They're really in a sh***y place right now, and I don't see much of anything to blame Murphy for, other than the typical "he should've done this or that" which all managers are guilty of, if you follow a team for six months.

    Re Capra, this was pretty much inevitable I guess. I don't have a big issue with it, except Ortiz is having the type of year where he's probably going to get PH for or occasionally be out of the lineup & I have very little confidence in Monasterio at SS (and I think using Turang there, even for a couple innings here & there, is a bad idea). Hudson is a very welcome & needed addition provided he throws strikes, which he did in AAA outside of one outing.

    With all their pitchers-----and OFs-----healthy, they could be pretty good WITHOUT a legitimate bat at 3B. But that would also require Contreras, Yelich & Chourio to be some semblance of what they were in '24. Contreras needs to get healthy. Chourio doesn't worry me long-term. Yelich is the enigma right now. Lately it just looks like it's impossible for him to turn on something middle-in & hit it hard.

    Nice piece. Adamczewski has just skyrocketed in my eyes. I think how well he can defend moving forward is the only thing that MIGHT cause concern (as you mentioned, most likely limited to 2B). Martinez.....that's just one freakishly impressive athlete. And he comes fully-equipped with defensive chops, always a priority in Milwaukee. Only know what I've read on this site re Letson, but I know the command has improved greatly, and I love the movement on the slider in the highlight provided. Couple that with the 2 seam FB, & four-seamer at 96-98? Thank you very much.

    Agree. Made has talent just dripping out of every pore, but it's waaay too early to know if he's a SS? 3B? OF? Pratt, yeah, you just plug him in at SS & let him grow.

    A few words on Cooper Pratt, who had two of the Shuckers' three hits tonite: His #'s are very solid considering it's his first taste of AA, but maybe the most impressive to me is that his whiff rate last year at both A stops was fairly average, while in '25 it's down to 13% while advancing to a level that many struggle at w/the bat. Boeve had the other hit for Biloxi. I dream about how advanced his bat would be had he been healthy throughout his pro career.

    He hasn't played SS since '21 & has never played 3B in the bigs.

    Yeah, I would've let Patrick stay too. The determining factors were pitch count (getting near the end but still throwing pretty well) and four run lead. The guy went oppo & hit it well because it was up a little. Just a terrific start.

    Important start for Patrick. When arms start getting healthy there will be some competition for rotation spots. Right now it looks like Priester has one foot on a banana peel. Chad has been mostly solid; needs to continue that. Any Frelick update?

    Payamps & Capra both got into the game & we won!!!! How could that be??? While he's been mostly acceptable at 3B so far, Durbin looks much more comfortable at second. The arm certainly plays better there.

    Fair enough. Would you say he's a better SS than Mona though? I was putting a large part of my thoughts into that aspect of his game, maybe to a fault.

    Yeah, and that's the main thrust behind my thoughts on Zamora. Even offensively though, he's not K'ing much at all & takes his walks which are nice attributes for a bench guy. Overall I'd give him a slight nose up over Monasterio but the 40-man thing would probably work against him.

    Great post, but the paragraphs above make some particularly good points. And along with Megill failing a time or two, there were the back-to-back games on the most recent road trip where Alexander failed in what were winnable games, toiling as the '2nd lefty' in the pen while Hudson was in Nashville re-learning how to throw strikes & Ashby was hurt. And as for the starters, yeah. No one can guarantee performance but between Woodruff, Myers, Civale, Cortes, Miz, Rodriguez & Henderson (Gasser probably more of a '26 hope IMO)---that's a LOT of potential options to right that ship.

    Former 2nd round pick Freddy Zamora is very quietly playing some decent ball in Nashville, while moving around to 2B, SS & 3B. Not on the 40-man but I wonder if he'd be a better option than Mona if they want to make that move at some point? As they should, the organization always values defense & Zamora was drafted as a SS. I've always seen Monasterio as more of a 2B-3B (Even though N'ville has played him at SS quite a bit).

    I was only half-listening, but I thought I heard Rottino say that Chourios' OPS---I assume he meant for his career---is almost 1.000 when he sees 6 or more pitches in an AB. It's about not chasing but it's also about dialing down enough to foul off close pitches that you're now missing w/two strikes. He'll eventually barrel up balls & sometimes even hit them out of the park w/a so-called "two strike approach". It happened last year at times. Swinging at everything is never a good thing at this level. Just makes you easier to pitch too. He's still a baby; It'll come.

    Terrific lineup for them, but as the season wears on I could see them having to win a lot of 9-6 & 10-8 type games. And I had that thought before the pulled hammy today by Imanaga, which may or may not be serious. It just remains to be seen if there's anyone else in the division that could get their foot in the door.

    To me this is good news, in the sense that I was wondering if the guy was having health issues. If he was, I think a leg kick is something you'd refrain from rather than add.
