  1. As to the baseball........... Collins & Perkins both had forgettable PAs in Chicago. Doing no baseball stuff for 3-4 days can do that to you. That's why I was thrilled it was Collins who came up with the huge hit yesterday. Hope he's settling back in. Perkins has always had a little too much swing-and-miss in his game for my taste but looks particularly 'off' right now. Agree with the previous post that Lockridge should get the call tonight. Getting 2 of 5 games in a road series vs a quality team while having four of the five starters pitch poorly--let's just say it could've been much worse. Let's curb the walk-itis. And please keep Wilmer Flores from the Ted Williams impersonation he pulled on us earlier this year.
  2. That's where I am re stuff like this. If it's Adames, or Hoskins going back to Philly, a little "yeah, I remember. Thanks for the memories" applause in his 1st AB. Then, the guys' wearing someone elses' jersey. I'm not there this weekend but if I was I certainly wouldn't cheer for him throughout.
  3. I don't begrudge Adames for leaving. But if I was him & really wanted to stay in Milwaukee, for whatever reason, not for one nanosecond would I let the players' union affect my decision.
  4. To be honest, if the NFL had the same financial structure as MLB the Packers would've years ago become the Salt Lake City Saltshakers, or whatever.
  5. Bad angle, thought the ball was caught. Then after thinking it was caught went on his backside while putting on the brakes. Then wanted to make absolutely sure the ump saw him touch 2B, since by that time he wasn't able to make it past third anyway. Could've used a 2B coach, I guess. It looked ridiculous, but I understand his thought process.
  6. There's been some wailing, railing & flailing about the offense the last couple days. But when the smoke clears, we've run out four starters this week. One was excellent while the other three were mediocre to downright poor. The results reflected that. Job one is for Priester to get ahead & throw ground balls. Facing a LHP can be dicey but to me the ABs have been better than the overall results over the last two games. The bottom two spots in the order HAVE been a recent problem. When those guys can reach, that's when your chances for a 3-4 inning increase. Chourios' return bumps everyone back a spot which should help in that regard.
  7. Gee, and all this time I thought it was simply a viable alternative when I've already seen the 'Gunsmoke' rerun😛.
  8. Yeah, when the amount of money bet by ordinary Joes flowing to one side or the other is used to project the winner of a baseball game, it's time to say goodnight.
  9. Definitely. To me he just hasn't yet reached the point of no longer getting a turn. Bringing him straight here w/o a rehab start(s) is looking like a mistake, although at that time the options weren't what they were earlier
  10. IMO it's a case of going through something you've never gone through before & learning to deal with it. Back in the 1960s there was a guy in the Baltimore organization named Steve Dalkowski. People who saw him pitch claim he threw harder than anyone. Ever. He walked a ton of batters & never threw a pitch in MLB. There was another pitcher, a little younger, who was reputed to throw almost as hard. He also walked a ton, but made it up to the show, added a wrinkle or two, and grew up to be Nolan Ryan. Thing about Miz, he already has the wrinkle, actually two or three of them, at a very young age. I believe it's just a matter of time for him.
  11. I also don't think the BP is a good role for him, but I wouldn't pull the plug on him as a starter just yet either. He's going to have borderline calls go against him (I think you have a point on the Caissie AB), but letting it get to you, and wilting just a little when people make noise, isn't conducive to coming out of the pen. Maybe he'll get past that in a week or two. Maybe next season. But it has to happen. Like I mentioned earlier, before & after the 4 AB s***show in the third inning he was perfectly fine. Maturity.
  12. In his inning he walked two hitters back-to-back, neither of which he wanted to lose with Contreras looming. And one of those hitters hasn't looked good at the plate after sitting all weekend. He reined it back in to get to 0-2 on Contreras. But yes, he was getting wild.
  13. Counsell used to talk about the 'next hit'. That's been missing, sometimes due to bad ABs, sometimes just not finding a hole. Contreras put a decent swing on an 0-2 pitch from a guy you don't want to fall behind on. Allllmost.
  14. The law of averages usually doesn't leave someone thirty-some games over .500 three-fourths of the way through a season. Winning fifteen out of sixteen guarantees nothing the next day. Neither does dropping three in a row.
  15. After Mondays' game we had beaten them four out of five, and had won 15 out of 16 games. Why would anyone think we could lose the next three? Baseball.
  16. They're up six games right now. If they win they'll be up seven. Unless you're saying it's impossible they can win tomorrow?
  17. When I first saw stats people years ago keeping track of run differential, I thought it was a joke.
  18. I've said this often-----It's not WHO you play, but HOW. Chi is playing pretty well right now, but this isn't a Saturday afternoon in the fall with Alabama playing Middle Tennessee. It's baseball. Unless you get into the final maybe 7-10 games I think looking at the sked can be overrated. And save for a Turang error on Sunday, Vaughns' bad throw yesterday & too many inopportune walks by a few different guys I don't think we're playing as badly as some probably think.
  19. This played out as the type of game expected, given the conditions, Not many big hits, but they had one more than us. With the wind blowing in, walking three in an inning is inexcusable, and both pitchers accomplished that feat. Unfortunately it was Busch in their opportunity, while we had Perkins who is scuffling & Ortiz who really doesn't seem to have a plan when he goes to the plate. Two ugly pop ups on 1st pitch swings. Miz..........a leadoff walk, missing with two breaking balls after 2-2 (again with the wind blowing in). A little pressure, a little noise from the inmates. Another walk. A little more, which leads to another walk. After the damage was done, pressure off, he mostly looked great. First two innings, great. Bottom line, we just need for Ebby Calvin LaLoosh to grow up. The tools causing all the hype are there, as always. Just not all the time. Again, breathe. Grow up. I imagine there's gnashing of teeth over Seigler hitting in the 9th. The thought process there was probably that Murphy liked him a little better than Perkins & Ortiz. So that's two PHs. And if Jansen DOES reach (he did) you just know that if Lockridge isn't available to run for him, the next batter is going to single to LF & Jansen won't be able to score. Monasterio is the other option and while that's a decent argument, Palencia might not come in throwing strikes & Seigler is more apt to extract a walk than Mona. And L vs R. Arguable, but I can see the thought process. Turang is turning into one hell of a ballplayer. Bottom line, like I said this smelled like one of those games down there that's 2-1 or 3-1, and save for Misiorowski's momentary Turnbow impersonation it probably is, and we most likely win.
  20. Yep. Too bad there isn't another 2-3 inning guy available to pitch. Gasser just threw. If not for the 40-man roster thingie I wouldn't mind seeing Yeager. @Joseph Zarr, how has Yoho looked to you since going back down?
  21. Yeah, Hoskins might not 'like' a rehab until 9/1. But short of an injury to someone else that looks to be in the cards. And he'll be looking for a deal come off-season so there should be no lack of intensity/keeping himself ready. Certainly him & Vaughn in the lineup together at 1B/DH makes sense vs some LHPs. Any PH opportunities that come up in September will have more fleshed-out options with Hoskins (or maybe every once in awhile Vaughn) available on the bench, as well as whoever might be sitting that day after Chourio returns. Also pleasantly surprised to hear Ortiz is right back in the harness.
  22. I don't think they swung the bats badly yesterday. Easily could've had double-digit base hits in game two. But looking for Collins to get things cranked back up after sitting all weekend. And Chourio going out on a rehab on Friday is great news.
