  1. I was only half-listening, but I thought I heard Rottino say that Chourios' OPS---I assume he meant for his career---is almost 1.000 when he sees 6 or more pitches in an AB. It's about not chasing but it's also about dialing down enough to foul off close pitches that you're now missing w/two strikes. He'll eventually barrel up balls & sometimes even hit them out of the park w/a so-called "two strike approach". It happened last year at times. Swinging at everything is never a good thing at this level. Just makes you easier to pitch too. He's still a baby; It'll come.
  2. Terrific lineup for them, but as the season wears on I could see them having to win a lot of 9-6 & 10-8 type games. And I had that thought before the pulled hammy today by Imanaga, which may or may not be serious. It just remains to be seen if there's anyone else in the division that could get their foot in the door.
  3. To me this is good news, in the sense that I was wondering if the guy was having health issues. If he was, I think a leg kick is something you'd refrain from rather than add.
  4. I speculated about that the other day, along with Dinges eventually to A+ (provided the glove work suffices). Starting pitching really seems to be fleshing out well, from A+ thru AAA.
  5. Can't begin to express how nice it is to finally see Boeves' name in a box score. Hope Jef Quero isn't far behind.
  6. Nine for his last thirty, and still drawing walks, right? Baby steps. It's just nice to have SOMETHING positive to hang your hat on after all this time.
  7. It's entirely possible that there is no one. This organization has had a history of "lead by example" types. They've also had an Adames, a Prince Fielder, a Lorenzo Cain. even a Dave Parker for a little while. Now? Yelich might come the closest, but that's kinda by default. If he was a couple more years into his career, maybe Frelick.
  8. A terrific talent. But IMO the next step in his development is to get past his apparent belief that there's a "shot clock" attached to his ABs----that if he doesn't swing within 1 or 2 pitches he'll be called out. Think about the tougher hitters Brewer pitchers have faced over the years. Even when you retire them, it's like pulling teeth---the close takes just off the plate, the foul balls on quality pitches around the black, seven, eight, nine pitches thrown. He (and Yelich) are not only failing lately, but their ABs are way, way too stress-free for the opposition. Fortunately Chourio has a lot of time to grow. He'll learn (I think).
  9. I can't believe you don't find a way to use the word "keister" when Priester pitches.
  10. I think so. He obviously wasn't getting appreciably better in the day-to-day practice grind, so this is probably going to be more of a sink or swim situation for him. I just hope for his sake he has the work ethic & mindset to improve because he clearly needs to. Not the level of the B10, but the MAC is no joke.
  11. This. Myers was removed because he deserved to be removed, and the BP was able to absorb the innings that day.
  12. "It's a round ball & a round bat & you gotta hit it square"--Joe Schultz.
  13. He was far from sharp today but I felt bad for Patrick. He was this close to getting through six but couldn't catch a break on what was probably Vaughns' best AB of the whole series. Would've liked to see Yoho (or whoever) then start the 7th clean. May not have made a difference, but it often does. But at the end of the day if you can't generate offense...........you can't have Yelich & Chourio disappearing on this consistent a basis & right now they're both invisible. Today our DH, who hits left-handed, needed a day off---vs a RHP---after looking terrible on Wednesday. Hate to think about it, but is the guy healthy?
  14. Great stuff both Jake & Terry, thanks!!!! To me Hardin has the look & feel of someone that will touch AA at some point in the not-too-distant future. And Dinges should touch Wisconsin at some point providing his work behind the dish allows it, and it sounds like that's coming along. Pop time under 1.90 in low-A is a nice building block.
  15. There's bad games and then there's BAD games. IIRC Yelich struck out on three pitches THREE times yesterday & I don't know if I've ever seen that from a position player. With him sitting, hope to see the Chourio roller-coaster hit an incline today. The more I watch Durbin at the plate the more I really like him in the 9-hole. Wouldn't mind if he was flipped w/Haase today. Finding ways to reach, extending innings, turning a one-run frame into three or four.
  16. Maybe not as bad as '24, they've added some young talent on the mound & at the position player group. But at the end of the day yeah, it'll be a while before they can climb.
  17. Agree 100%, it's a very strange season line for Brock. And we all hope to find some batted-ball productivity from him. It's what he was drafted for. Just saying that Adams has never had issues with drawing his share of BB (and HBP, for that matter), and now I'm seeing all his HRs & over half his RBIs for the year coming in his last six games. That's encouraging.
  18. The walks.....always the walks. But in his last handful of games, base hits too, four of them leaving the yard. Looks like he may have figured something out.
  19. Had he whiffed or failed in some other way to get the run(s) in vs the LHP, I was already anticipating the cries of "WHERE WAS HAASE?!?!", which would've actually been a legitimate gripe since Cameron was still available to go to LF. But he stayed on the pitch really well. Beautiful AB.
  20. I don't remember who said it---I think it was a quote in Ball Four---but someone once said "Baseball is an ass". The Sox have to feel that way after somehow giving up six runs despite Chourio & Yelich going a combined 0-10, with most of those ABs really, really ugly. That's about all I got, except the BP slogged through pretty effectively with the exception of Grant Anderson, whose arm I assume is going to fall off any day now. Oh yeah, and I love that Frelick kid.
  21. Early May for Perkins would be lovely. Sounds optimistic to me; hope I'm wrong.
  22. Obviously Alastre was in the shadows of some of the super-hyped guys at Carolina so not expected, at least not by me. He's been moved around the field quite a bit so It'll be interesting to see what's in store for him at Wisconsin. A 19-yr-old who's K'd about once every 9 PAs in his career. Likey.
  23. Starting pitcher in the first-ever game for the team after moving from Seattle. Twelve-zip loss. That old rule about bonus babies having to stick with the big club was an interesting one.
