  1. Amos has decided to transfer to Loyola (CHI). IMO a good fit for his skillset & where he's at right now development-wise. VS most of the bigs in The Valley he'll be able to stay on the floor physically & get enough minutes to score 12-15 PPG. Then he can go to DePaul in 26-27. Or if he disappoints he can try Chicago State, IPFW or SIU-Edwardsville. The beat goes on..........
  2. Agree it's certainly not everything, esp in his case. And IMO he's one of the last guys you want to see consciously trying to pull anyway. It'll be tough if he struggles enough to warrant the platoon b/c the options aren't really there as you said. Even when Perkins returns you already have two other lefty OF bats that you'd much rather see facing a righty. If Hoskins doesn't provide the RH pop at some point it really hamstrings them.
  3. Cuz of the way they lost Saturday. Big pic, a 3-3 roadie is only a catastrophe if you let it morph into one.
  4. Too early to draw conclusions, but a mostly ugly first one-tenth of the season for him. Right now he could change his uni # to 43 to match the lions' share of his scorebook results. When he started to heat up last year he was Turanging a lot of balls to LF, which led to him getting some balls to pull. I think that's the ticket.
  5. This wasn't a day to go dormant offensively, but it also wasn't a day for Peralta to be hanging on by a thread before he even got out of the 5th. Needed the type of length he usually doesn't give us, but has a time or two in '25. And to their credit Zonas' hitters did nothing to help him. Not that Gallen needed it, but our hitters can't say the same. Probably didn't cost them today, but there are going to be soooo many games where the BP has to get about half of the outs, that it's going to catch up to us if we don't have a 3rd LHP out there. Missing an Ashby or a Milner isn't huge yet, but will be if not rectified. He's a major talent & I'm glad he's on our side for a long time, But the plate discipline thing with Chourio really gets magnified when others behind him aren't producing. That's a jump in baseball smarts & moxie that will propel him to another level and I hope it starts to show soon. Not so much the final out---Puk worked him well---but his AB in the 7th was horrible. Arizona goes to a couple bench guys on a Sunday, and they throw Wauwatosa (or whatever his name is) out there at 2B and he plays a nearly flawless game on both ends. Typical.
  6. I agree. The % of managers that would sit a closer down after the fourth run was scored is probably pretty high. Throw in that Megill (according to Murphy) has a little something w/his knee going on, just a little discomfort. For all the fireworks in the ninth, what lit the fuse was the one-out walk for no particular reason (along with the one Megill allowed to the 9-hole hitter). Make either of those two batters hit their way on & chances are we win. Murphy said in postgame it was a confidence issue w/Payamps. If that's the reason for a one out, no one on base walk w/a four-run lead----after getting ahead 0-1----, that's pretty inexcusable. So. win the series & complete a successful roadie today.
  7. Or..........Jace Petersen IS in the organization.............😄
  8. As long as he would come cheaply, I like this. I was disappointed when he was dealt. But unless they've 100% given up on him as a 3B Durbin needs to play there every day at N'ville. And that's where a Devanney would go if acquired. In the meantime let's not forget the emphasis the organization has put on defense---and how very well that strategy has paid off. Save for the costly hiccup by Dunn a week or so ago they've both been excellent w/the glove, and the Brewers aren't going to make a move that sacrifices that.
  9. I think there is a great point made here, probably unintentionally. Murphy alludes to it at times. It's the idea of putting pressure on an opponent, stretching them, making them think. Sometimes they show bunt w/o intending to actually lay it down. Make the INF move, pull them in. Sometimes a bunt isn't handled properly. And sometimes, if enough stress is put on a catcher or corner INF, a bad decision is made-----like PICKING A BALL UP THAT WAS GOING FOUL. We've already benefited twice from that now, in sixteen games. Every decision the players, or Murphy, makes isn't going to work. But big picture, I get it.
  10. These guys might be worth a road trip this summer, for your viewing enjoyment. It'll be interesting to see how the Pena-Made-Adamczewski-Di Turi quartet is meted out over 2B-SS-3B. Mucho versatility so no real problem per se, unless you use the cliche' about it being a 'good problem to have'.
  11. As productive as he's been, we need to see a little more selectiveness from Chourio. More chasing than we need to see, which is understandable when you're 21 and on a HR/RBI binge . For as dangerous a hitter as he is, zero walks so far this season tells a tale.
  12. I don't know if that was the plan all along, but at some point they had to be contemplating that. And I'm totally against Turang moving off 2B. So yeah, if Durbin is limited to 2B it takes much luster off the deal.
  13. Durbin has moved btwn 2nd & 3rd in AAA. He will never be a factor at 3rd unless he proves he can play the position consistently. Dunn & Capra can, which is why they're here.
  14. I wasn't happy with the DP either. But a 15 ft dribbler? If that was true, the only guy you could turn two on would be Andre the Giant, eight days after his funeral.
  15. For those who followed spring training closer than I-----was there some sort of self-imposed mandate re Hudson, that we want to limit him sitting down & getting back up this season? I thoroughly didn't get him not at least coming back out to face Moniak. And leading off the inning I doubt they'd use Bryant there. Great start to the year for Uribe. But a reminder today that there's still a long way to go between the ears. If there's a lot of lamenting the bases-loaded-nobody-out stuff today, I'm not boarding that train. Ortiz hit a rocket. Collins looked to ambush, and hit the ball hard (of course, right at the SS). Now, the Dunn AB after Ortiz, yeah. You need to touch the ball someway, somehow. Still trying to figure out how Priester got through five allowing one run w/the command issues. But it got better after awhile, and if he can build on this, OK. I'd like to see him be able to take a little more off the changeup.
  16. The more I think about it, the more I believe it's not out of the question. Of course he put his name out there so it would be kinda foolish to get TOO hopeful. As is, I think X could be very productive playing the 4 with the right mid-major program. But maybe he's also hoping for a certain $$$ level that just won't be there. Either way, he added a little toughness, a little defense to his game this season. And he can put the ball in the hole. I'd love to see him recognize the development, see the capacity for that to continue at UW, and return.
  17. Totally agree. Would've loved to add Blue but not a shocker he went elsewhere. Greppi supposedly thinking about the portal, then deciding to stay after Amos announced, I suspect is not coincidental.
  18. It sounds like Amos was definitely coming back. Or thinking about leaving. Depending on which day of the week it was. Looked like there was at least a chance they might've been shopping for one more player even with Amos; now they certainly aren't done shopping. Of course, Amos could pull his name, and decide to stay. Or leave his name in the portal & decide to stay. Or go elsewhere. Meanwhile go ahead, Greg, build a roster. Coaches are well-paid of course. But it must be thrilling to deal with a sport in which maybe 90% of the athletes feel they deserve to start, yet you should conduct your roster management accordingly even though well over half your players CAN'T start. Makes your appreciation and respect for the Carter Gilmores & Kamari McGees just absolutely soar.
  19. Looks to me like the last two moves improved the pitching depth (Priester>Wolfram), but I'd much rather have Yoph Rodriguez then Cam. I guess Lara & Payne allowed them to feel Rodriguez was expendable for the right price.
  20. IMO it was more 80%-20% Houstons' defense & experience, although Dukes' youth did show, too. I'd go with the Gators tonight as well. But I'd like to see the Cougs get it done, finally. Six (or was it seven) trips to the FF with no championship.
  21. They seem to like the idea of playing 5 DBs, & I hated that concept when the DL was smallish, lacked depth & there were only three on the field. A 4-2-5 I could live with, esp with the increased size mentioned by @LouisEly.
  22. I'm in the camp that doesn't believe he's quite ready. But when he does make his debut I kinda like the idea of starting him out in a piggyback situation.
  23. "Suggest" it, sure. I just don't think his story has been written yet. I like his offensive profile, and he seems to have gotten off to an OK start with the bat. I agree that his work at 3B in March was disappointing, and if he never gets comfortable there then the deal loses some luster. I'm 5'8". Hard for me to find guys I can post up.😛
  24. It becomes sort of positionless on offense, but defensively yeah, I think if Blue comes here you'd see him guarding the versatile 6'5"-6'8" guys on the wing when he's on the floor.
  25. Plus, I think it's wrong to label Durbin a "AAA 2nd baseman" as if that's his predetermined ceiling.
