  1. I think baseball is better with a healthy Pedro Martinez pitching in the league. Here is to him impressing in the WBC and catching on with a club, even as a closer, even with someone like the Cardinals. One of my favorite players of the past 15 years.
  2. What a shame. It would break my heart of CC's arm cant bounce back from the abuse he had last year.
  3. that was hilarious, for content, plus I thought Artie Lange was dead.
  4. No from the looks of the roster almost everyone else is wearing their regular uni number.
  5. Maybe someone from the 2006 team wore 8 and they havent reissued yet?
  6. The situation is ripe for a Chevy Chase comeback. Ty Webb America needs you!
  7. Just caught snippets today as the game was on in the background for a while. I definitely like what I hear.
  8. So I get what these creeps did, but what did they do with the money?
  9. How do in depth classroom discussions work where the professor poses issues or questions and the students debate them, ask their own questions and develop critical thinking skills needed in the workplace?
  10. That is exactly the point I was trying to make on the last page. Also, my wife informed me tonight that the next "new thing" is going to be professors recording their lectures and creating podcasts for students to download. Needless to say she is opposed.
  11. Stuff like science, math and politics havent gotten any more complicated than they were in the 1940s and 1950s when Powerpoint didnt exist. I have never found powerpoints to be useful and I would imagine that most students DONT supplement them and try to use the PP as the notes, which is why they suffer.
  12. My wife was just saying the same thing this week. They dont know that they are "supposed" to. It is probably because high school has gotten too easy and is a fricking joke.
  13. It would be great if they invented some sort of system where you could order the tickets off of your computer at home, without having to camp out in freezing temps, miss work, etc. Anyone want to look into that?
  14. It's like herpes.
  15. I only caught his call in the 10 inning but I have to admit begrudgenly that I like his calls.
  16. now that the link is fixed the first thing I thought was Krist Novoselic, I was pumped that I knew one finally...and then bummed that someone else already guessed it.
  17. GWSY Fail?
  18. ^^^^^ in light the things werent like that in my day... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoGYx35ypus

  20. I saw most of the show, and only two of the movies (Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda). THe best part of the show was the Seth Rogan/James Franco bit on the couch. I was cracking up. The past winners talking to nominees was a decent idea but it didnt seem to work as well as they might have hoped. Bill Maher was bad, and that is coming from a guy who doesnt dislike him. They even managed to make Jack Black seem un-funny - but that could have been due to Jennifer Anitson's awful acting ability. Here is to Tina Fey hosting next year, she and Steve MArtin were good.
  21. I wouldnt reschedule, I would go. You will heal up quite a bit between now and then and it could be a decent ice breaker.
  22. It isnt really a shame that one play derailed his career, it happens to a lot of players in a lot of sports. It is a shame that the one play almost derailed his life. I am happy that he is coming back, and at 35, if he can hack it, Id welcome him back and send Mike Lamb packing.
  23. FTJ, And That, colby, MassBrew, many more.
  24. That was a good article, I told my wife about it, who teaches at UW-Oshkosh and she told me that it had already made it around her department. My wife has been teaching at the University level for 4 years now and she has spoken about this problem - more like epidemic since the beginning. You have it exactly right. My wife dared give a guy an A/B in a class and the guy pestered my wife all winter to get it changed to an A. The basis of his argument was an email that he interpreted differently than my wife intended. It was in regards to a re-write of a paper that the guy had done spectaluarly poor on. My wife intended to allow him to get full credit on the re-write (which in the syllabus I believe indicated the best one could do was 90%. The student took it to mean he could get "full credit" Finally, after enough bickering by the student my wife changed his grade to an A (he had missed by less than 1% at the time) because she had to focus on teaching her 4 new classes for the spring semester. Also re: extra credit. I know that the B and C students - intelligence wise - just expect that my wife will offer enough extra credit to allow their grades to be bumped to an A. It sickens me. The other thing is my wife has a very strict attendence policy which she announces on the first day of each class and which is clearly in the syllabus, as soon as class is over almost every student lines up with a list od days he or she is already planning on missing, together with excuses for why they should be allowed to miss. Everything from "leaving early for spring break" to "I work a job during the class hour once a week" to "I have a medical condition that doesnt allow me to get to campus very often so I need a standing excuse for any day I miss, because who knows when I will feel crappy" The worst part? Often teachers are evaluated based upon student remarks and surveys at the end of the semester. THe students now have the power to get a teacher forced out, not get tenure, etc. Amazing.
