  1. Your best options are to look north of Bluemound, if you go up to Wells, you can usually find spots, particularly if you head west. One word of caution, the cops are ruthless about parking too close to a corner or crosswalk.
  2. While I'm sure the long-term merits of any deal will be discussed ad nauseum (especially here), there is only one certainly if this somehow comes together before Friday at 3:10. An increase in liver failure in the 5-county area. That, and an ovation on Saturday that will probably eclipse anything (even Braun) on Friday.
  3. I just caught a little of the Astros game on MLB.tv tonight, they were promoting opening day tickets still available from the box office. I know things are bad for that team, but even the Brewers always sold out for opening day during the lean years (with 6,000 for game 2, but I digress). Houston is the 5th largest city in the country for cripes sake!
  4. Other than the bad Deadspin press, Dan Lozano has had a pretty nice off-season. Pujols and Votto, that's some serious commission.
  5. Serious question. What should Braun say since he is going to be asked about it all the time? He has 3 options but the 3rd might not even be possible for some reason 1. No comment. This won't stop people from asking but it may the best 2. Do what he has been doing. Say there is more to the story but then not share, which just frustrates people 3. Tell the whole story. Not sure if this is possible. It could be part of an agreement so MLB's policy does not look bad, but I doubt that because if it was MLB would not have vehemently opposed the ruling like they did. Or he cannot do it because it would bring suspicion to other Brewer players - the two other tests?. Or there is continuing legal action. Or who knows. "I respect the confidentially of the joint testing program and can't comment." If he gives that answer every time, even Haudricort will stop asking.
  6. Braun is clearly looking for someone to leak the "truth." it's readily accepted that the initial leak came from his side, so I'm sure this will come out eventually. He really needs to quit talking about this, he's getting into "OJ looking for the real killers" territory.
  7. Goodwill even has a place in-store to try them out. I got one to play old Disney movies for my kids for $5.
  8. If you like detail, try "Pure Baseball" by Keith Hernandez. It's a batter-by-batter, pitch-by-pitch account of two MLB games.
  9. @MLBinsidenews is reporting that Fielder signed an 8 year deal with Washington. Opt out after 3 years. No idea how reliable this guy is, it's not an official MLB twitter.
  10. Why, hello there "mystery team."
  11. Your avatar in text form!
  12. They are playing the entire record at every show on this tour. They have a show at Turner Hall too.I also love that album, so I'll be at the Turner Hall show. Between that show and Big Head Todd & the Monsters coming in February, I'm really enjoying the early 90's rebirth!
  13. I'm the same way. I spend a lot of time on twitter getting up-to-the-minute news, but I still start everyday with the newspaper. Much of the news is stuff I've already heard, but there's just something comforting about starting the day with the physical paper. For me, a real treat is a Sunday with nothing to do, where I can start with a Sunday New York Times. I can't imagine I'll be able to do that forever, as I'm 35 and I only know a few people my age (and none younger) that even get the paper.
  14. One of my friends has a party that has gotten more subdued as we've gotten older. Last year I made the chorizo-stuffed bacon-wrapped dates that were discussed in the infamous relish tray thread. This year, I'm making bacon pops. Yum. These just scream Sconnie.
  15. I think this was one of the best years in a long time for live music in Milwaukee. The increased schedule at Turner Hall and the Pabst in particular has made some great artists available at really reasonable prices. I don't think I paid more than $30 for any of these shows: --Grace Potter & the Nocturnals --Pete Yorn, with Ben Kweller as the opener --Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings (Summerfest) --Fitz & the Tantrums (Rock the Green) --Ben Folds (Rock the Green) --Trombone Shorty (Shank Hall) - the best show I saw this year --Frank Turner --The Jayhawks --The Avett Brothers
  16. The only thing I don't like about adding Aoki as another outfielder, is that we still have no bench power. Are we really going to go into another season with Kottaras as our late inning power threat off the bench?
  17. I'll stick with Seattle. They've got Pineda, Felix to start a nice pitching core. Ackley looks to be the real deal. They could make Prince the face of the franchise, like they did with Griffey, fans would love it. If Jack Z could draft some fast-rising offense (which he's done before), they might be ok.
  18. I was getting a lot of "Bad Gateway" error messages when trying to get on earlier this afternoon.
  19. That's not really fair, since KRod is signed for one year, Ramirez for 3 and Prince likely for at least 7. And I'll say Texas, unless they get Darvish, in which case I think it will be Seattle.
  20. That's pretty much what I heard as well. I also talked to a couple of doctor friends that indicated nothing in that story would cause the test results Braun had. edit: Every version of this rumor that I've heard sounds something like:
  21. I've heard stories about medical conditions and treatment supposedly related to Braun, but if any of those things were true, (A) he would have had to notify MLB in advance of taking the medication and (B) the positive test likely would have been thrown out in the initial meeting between Braun and MLB after the test.
  22. Jeff Passan at Yahoo has an article out today about this. Nothing new, but this doesn't sound good:
  23. On the same day that the Red Hot Chili Peppers get in to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. Is this some kind of bizarro world?
