If Brewers won a low scoring 11 inning game with 5 hits and 3 walks we would be hearing about how the offense is a problem and it's clearly not sustainable.

Play of the game for me was clearly the Mitchell outfield assist in the 4th inning. Felt like that inning was trending towards disastrous for May. Instead of 2-2 with runners on the corners and no outs it went to 2-2 with a runner on 1B with one out. Game changer. It was a good throw but also a smart throw. Could have tried to throw home where the run was almost certainly scoring but read the situation very well.

Yelich is batting in the same spot he was last night because Bauers isn't playing again. If Bauers was playing he'd be hitting 7th.

Cubs offense has been playing way over it's underlying numbers for two months now. Since June 1st they have a .315 xwOBA compared to a .344 wOBA. On the season their .322 xwOBA is only one point better than the Brewers .321 xwOBA. I think people are getting caught up with a Cubs offensive hot streak and a Brewers offensive cold streak and think that's what is actually real and not that it's just the ebbs and flows of an MLB season

Not that concerned. Brewers still have 7 games against them. If Cubs cut the gap in August we still have those head to head games to regain the ground.

I think the gap is small enough between us, Atlanta, and LA that I want to root for both of them to lose. Would LA not getting the bye be nice? Absolutely but the Brewers getting the bye is more important to me than rooting for LA to not get it so I want Atlanta to also lose.

The cognitive dissonance to say this "And the history of winning 4 of the last 5 (80%) of the division titles seems largely irrelevant to me. i see each season as a generally independent event because of how different teams can be." and then one comment later talk about home different teams in the past have blown leads is astounding. Those different teams blowing leads in the past shouldn't matter because each season is an independent event by your own words...or do you just say whatever fits your preconceived bias even if there's not logical consistency?

Wichrowski hasn’t touched that velo in years and Kuehner has never sat 97-99 (no idea where you got that from). Yes Wagoner has touched triple digits and that’s why I said he’s the closest we have to a flamethrower but he’s sitting 96-97 in AAA. Cruz has sat 98-100 this entire season. Grable sits a bit below that but has outlier FB shape. I get we all love our prospects but Wagoner isn’t either of those guys.
  9. Lucas O.
I’m not really sure any of these are comparable. 8/4/22 they were tied for the division lead 8/4/14 they had a one game division lead 8/4/07 they had a one game division lead

None of Wagoner, Wichrowski, or Kuehner are flamethrowers. Wagoner is closest but even he in AAA is averaging more like 96-97 with his FB with average shape. Cruz and Grable both have 70 grade fastballs according to Fangraphs and both profile as high leverage relievers.

Yoho was no longer a Brewer. I do not think Wagoner is anywhere near the reliever prospect as guys like Cruz and Grable are. Hardin is better than any of the prospects they got but guys like Wichrowski and Kuehner (who is on the AAA 60 Day IL) are going to move the needle. Letson and Knoth are further away from being MLB ready than any of the guys Washington got and they wanted guys closer to MLB. They want to win next year and think the three prospects they got can help them within the next year.

Per @adambr2's post above you said the Cubs and Phillies were ready to take over the Brewers August 24th, 2025. The Brewers at that time had a 5 game lead with 31 games to go. Maybe you haven't verbatim said a 5.5 game lead is basically nothing but you post like it is and that comment from adam is a great example of it.

You literally will always find the negative slant. You are a pessimist and have little brother syndrome when it comes to the Cubs. Last year the Brewers offense was on fire from June on but you were constantly trying to pick holes in it and say the offense from April and May was really who the offense was. This year that has flipped and instead of keeping the same train of logic from last year, you now think what has happened recently is indicative of the actual quality of the offense.
  14. Lucas O.
Yeah the offense hasn't had their best month and half. You don't think Chourio and Contreras slumping hard during that stretch has anything to do with the offensive slump? Last year anytime in the last two months of the season that the Brewers offense had a bad game or two Bruised Crew would say they are reverting back to who their early season form which is who they are. He will always find a way to critique the Brewers and uplift the Cubs.
  15. Lucas O.
So you think Jackson Chourio is a below average hitter and Contreras is a sub replacement level player because that's what they have been doing the last month?
  16. Lucas O.
You're mistaking people responding to you negatively not your message negatively. People just get very tired of you always trying to talk up the Cubs and talk down the Brewers. You picking a date in the middle of June to decide the offense isn't that good is just cherry picking data to justify your opinion that the Brewers aren't that good and should be scared of the Cubs.
  17. Lucas O.
You also do this literally every single year where you tell us how concerned we should be about the team behind the Brewers in the standings. They have won the division 4 of the last 5 years and every time you're saying how the 5.5 game lead is basically nothing.
  18. Lucas O.
Better coincidence could be that Harris came up through the Cubs FO.
  19. Lucas O.
I asked in Brendan's fangraphs chat today why Braylon Payne only has a 45/55 raw power grade. Unfortunately didn't get an answer but hilarious that he hit a 114 EV HR tonight. 45/55 raw power my ass.
  20. Lucas O.
Then we are going in circles because we go right back to the Brewers didn't have the upper level pitching required to trade for Garcia.
  21. Lucas O.
So Yelich not playing which is obviously something everyone would like but that's not going to happen and is exactly why they basically had no avenues to upgraded the lineup at the deadline outside of 3B.
  22. Lucas O.
So you'd basically want Bauers to play as a full time OF with Vaughn and Garcia platooning at 1B? Lara back to AAA or on the bench?
  23. Lucas O.
So you would have carried 4 1B/DH on the roster at one time in Yelich, Bauers, Vaughn, Garcia?
  24. Lucas O.
Garcia is a LHH who can't hit LHP. That is not someone who could slide into Vaughn's role. Not to mention I don't see how the Brewers could have beat the Yankees offer. Nationals wanted quantity of upper minors pitching with the two main pieces being flamethrowing RHP that profile as high leverage pitchers. Upper level minor league pitching is the farm system's biggest weakness.
  25. Lucas O.
Regardless of us or them having Skubal the answer would be their offense has a bigger advantage over our pitching than vice versa. Nothing the Brewers could have done at the deadline would have changed that answer. The Dodgers have a much better and more dangerous lineup than the Brewers.
