  1. Ortiz is eligible because he was an offseason trade while Chourio is not because he signed an extension. This was confirmed by MLB when they released the pool of PPI eligible players.
  2. He signed an extension nefore debuting. You just have to PPI eligible and acrue 172 days in your rookie campaign to be eligible for the pick. (Season is 183 days)
  3. Mariners already have 3 guys with catching experience on their roster.
  4. He wasn't on the 40 man roster, so his clock isn't ticking.
  5. With Devin out 3 months, they can put him on the 60 Day IL to open up a spot.
  6. Contreras played 108 games at catcher last year, which is 9th most in baseball. Number 1 was Realmuto with 130 games. We're looking at 32-54 games at C for Sanchez and another 50 games as a short platoon at DH with Bauers and Yelich. It's 1 year $7 M with an option, which means it's probably $4-5 M in 2024 with a $2-3 M buyout in 2025. As for Haase, he actually signed a split contract. ($1.5 M in the majors and like $750 k in the minors.) We assumed the competetion for Contreras' backup was between Haase and Nola.
  7. Had him in my offseason blueprint. Pretty similar money as well.
  8. They already rolled Turang's clock last year when he was sent to the minors. I could see Turang needing to spend time in AAA this year, but that'd be for performance reasons not service time manipulation.
  9. Jorge Mateo is a defensive specialist utility player coming off a 2.9 fWAR season in 2022. Ortiz came debuted April 27th to fill in for a weekend series with a double header after only 187 PA in AAA over 2022-2023. He returned May 15th to fill in for Mateo while he was on the IL. Are you going to keep that guy up all year as the 2nd utility or give him everyday at bats when you have a vet you can keep in that role?
  10. That's a horrendous trade for the Brewers.
  11. Contract details.
  12. Busch was getting moved when Ohtani signed as the Dodgers DH position is locked up for the next decade. Busch is a 20 grade defender at the 2 positions he's seen the most action, and scouts think he'd be lucky to be a below average defender in LF/1B.
  13. A lot of that is the A's actively cutting payroll to nothing rather than their ability to spend higher.
  14. You just have to be in the organization on August 31st. Donaldson made the playoff roster after being signed to a minor league deal in August and not promoted until a week or 2 later.
  15. Mayo, Norby, and 1 of Baumeister/De Leon/Nunez or Westburg, Ortiz, and 1 of Baumeister/De Leon/Nunez are the 2 deals I'd be willing to do for Burnes.
  16. The Angels farm is garbo. In order for them to get Burnes, they're going to have to subtract off the major league roster. 1 of Detmers/Neto and Schanuel coming back are the only way they can start to put a package together for Burnes.
  17. I agree the return is light. I was just pointing out why you would trade for him onstead of select him in the Rule 5.
  18. You would have been forced to keep him on the big league roster most of 2025 as well as Rule 5 picks have to spend like 90-100 days on the big league roster for the restrictions to lapse.
  19. If this were to happen, you'd be looking at building the trade around a Yelich (5 years $130 M) and Berrios (5 years $101 M).
  20. This isn't really a stupid contract if the estimated revenue he generates off the field for the team are correct. (Upwards of $70 M a year)
  21. A deal for Burnes to the Yanks would have to be Peraza, Hampton, Arias, Warren, and Selvidge to even be in the discussion. A team with that blue chip top 50 guy would out bid that.
  22. Quero should be ready by some point in 2024. If it were me, I'd sign Garver for the 1B/DH/3rd C, and sign someone like Pina as the stop gap backup until Quero is ready.
  23. Signing Garver would be for 1B/DH and maybe some 3rd catcher work.
  24. If you could get Merrill back in a Burnes trade by taking on Cronenworth, I'd consider it. Something like Burnes for Merrill, Iriarte, Lizaraga, and Cronenworth.
