Sunday 6/2: Postgame shows after the 6-3 win over the White Sox to complete the sweep -Via WTMJ: Dom Cotroneo hosts, Craig Coshun is Dom's guestVia 97.3's "Baseball Postgame Show" - Tim Allen hosts Locked on Brewers with Chuck Freimund - "The Brewers Sweep Their Way to a Huge Lead in the Division***Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "What a wild week of baseball in Milwaukee, with both Chicago teams coming to American Family Field and leaving with only one win. The Brewers went 6-1 and in the process got one over on former manager Craig Counsell, and not without some voiced displeasure from the home fans. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss the many twists and turns of the week, including the heroics of Blake Perkins, Gary Sánchez and Willy Adames, the 23-hit game against the White Sox and another dust-up Sunday. Remembrew When looks back at a 31-hit onslaught against Toronto in 1992 and Curt Blanche takes issue with one particular stat measurement. Then, JR is joined by Brewers pitcher Colin Rea, who discusses his connection to a country musician with the same-sounding name, the unusual circumstances that brought him to Japan (and back again) and the evolution of his fastball arsenal." -

Misc. Minor League Alumni News & Notes
Jim Goulart replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
A pro player since 2013 and finally getting the call! Congrats to the 2021-22 Brewers farmhand! -
My goodness, how many times over the first two months of the 2024 minor league campaign have we heralded the efforts and results of the two A-Ball level clubs in Appleton and Zebulon? The Timber Rattlers and Mudcats did not disappoint on Saturday, adding a victory each to their impressive records (combined 63-35!), while games at the other levels did not go nearly as well. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Here we go on our Saturday recap tour! Transactions: Milwaukee Brewers optioned RHP Tobias Myers to Nashville Sounds. Milwaukee Brewers recalled RHP Janson Junk from Nashville Sounds. Nashville Sounds activated RHP Nolan Blackwood from the Development List. Biloxi Shuckers sent LHP Brandon Knarr on a rehab assignment to ACL Brewers. RHP Logan Henderson assigned to Biloxi Shuckers from Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Carolina Mudcats transferred RHP Ryan Birchard from the 7-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. Birchard is the highly thought of but little-seen 5th round pick out of the 2023 draft. Birchard has only one pro appearance to his name, a four-inning start with Carolina on April 6th (one unearned run allowed). It's good news that he was not placed on the full-season IL here. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Memphis (Cardinals) 11, Nashville 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Zamora Homers Twice But Sounds Fall - Nashville Seeks Series Split on Sunday Be sure you catch the extended video chat our own Seth Stohs conducts with Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem at some point. In an encouraging note from Jeff within, we learn that Brewer Hicklen's IL stint is due to a sore back, and that it is not believed to be serious (though never take back injuries for granted). Hopefully we'll see Hicklen back in action (pun intended) in relatively short order. The Redbirds posted several Sounds lowlights on their "X" feed should you dare. The Cardinals' Jordan Walker has a middling .699 OPS in 109 AAA at-bats, his home run in this game his first at AAA this season. In his prior three starts, RHP Tyler Woessner had allowed only one earned run in each, though his prior two efforts included plenty of baserunners and unearned runs. So, Saturday's outing was a step back. RHP Garrett Stalling's introductory appearance for the Brewers' organization did not go well, post-Thyago Vieira trade. VIDEO: Both of Freddy Zamora's home runs I'm pretty convinced the 25-year-old 2nd round pick in 2020 Zamora will see time in the show, likely as an emergency middle infield call-up in 2025. Does that mean he'll be added to the 40-man roster to protect him from Rule 5 this fall? Perhaps, but the Crew will probably roll the dice on exposing him. A big second half with Nashville could change their thinking. Tyler Black singled, walked, and stole his 9th base. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Pensacola (Marlins) 8, Biloxi 7 Box Score and Game Log Yoho Stars in Double-A Debut, Shuckers Fall to Pensacola - Righty strikes out five over two innings, Murray records multi-hit night Before we shower reliever Craig Yoho with even more praise, we'll note how excruciating a defeat this was. Talk about deflating any momentum after a single win on Friday, ending a ten-game losing streak. Can't be up 6-1 after a single inning and see this result in the end. Fielding: EBrown Jr. 3 (4, fielding, fielding, throw) Today's miscues only led to one unearned run, but the one thing Biloxi could rely on from Eric Brown Jr. in 2024 was his defense heading into this game (only one error in 29 games at shortstop, three at second base). Brown did contribute a sacrifice fly in four plate appearances, OPS is .433. Ernesto Martinez sat out this one after his outburst Friday night, related absence or not. RH starter Bradley Blaylock's four days in "The Show" despite no formal MLB debut did net him a sweet weekly paycheck (not to mention MLB health plan benefits for life), but apparently did him no favors in terms of his routine, as his two Biloxi starts since can best be listed as uneven. OK, yes let's discuss Craig Yoho, his "Airbender" (screwball) and assorted pitch mix, because it was on display here (well, from the above home plate camera). We won't moan about that annoying view here, except to say that we have even reached out to Biloxi's video production manager on your behalf. Until a resolution, we can hope for relevant road game views soon. If you have not done so yet, do check out the Journal-Sentinel podcast made available this week, in which the name "Yoho" is uttered eleventy-hundred times (only a slight exaggeration). It's at the 33:15 minute mark where the panel (Curt Hogg, JR Radcliffe and our own Spencer Michaelis) discuss Yoho in earnest. NOTE: You only have until very early this evening to bid on a sweet Timber Rattlers Marvel Defenders of the Diamond Jersey auction (sorry, no Yoho) Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final: Wisconsin 8, Fort Wayne (Padres) 1 Box Score and Game Log Rattlers Roll Back into Win Column - Wisconsin beats Fort Wayne 8-1 behind pitching of Herrera and hitting of Areinamo Show your big brothers in Biloxi how it's done, Timber Rattlers. Shake off a singular loss Friday and regain momentum the next evening. It's a bit unfair that the only pitch we see from RH starter Yujanyer Herrera above is the solo home run he surrendered, one of only two hits allowed (four walks, one HBP). The dynamic top three in the lineup (Dylan O'Rae, Gregory Barrios, Jadher Areinamo) pretty much guarantees some activity on the basepaths each game. When Luke Adams and Tayden Hall can contribute behind them, all the better. Next postgame podcast will be after Sunday's contest. Final: Carolina 3, Delmarva (Orioles) 2 Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Win Fifth Straight Over Shorebirds Yee-hah! Att: 4,594. Venue: Five County Stadium. I'm always impressed how the business side manages to bring in enough service staff (concessions, security, etc.) for a game where attendance pops so far above the norm. What spurred this turnout, beyond an exciting first-place team? Nice! As my co-worker Daniel pointed out in our forum as-it-happens thread, the Mudcats went with a bit of a Sunday lineup in front of the big crowd. And don't you know, that bottom three in the order (Blayberg Diaz, Reidy Mercado, Victor Torres) all were key contributors in the win. A bit of video via the team's "X" feed. Oh, that vaunted Orioles farm system - not at this level, the Muddies are taking advantage, as Delmarva falls to 15-34. Three-game division lead for Carolina, Especially at the lower levels, we sometimes forget how big a deal it is for families to make their way during these pleasant spring and summer travel months to catch their youngsters. Congratulations, Durow family! Final: ACL Rangers 10, ACL Brewers 2Box Score and Game Log Four errors by the A-Crew led to two unearned runs overall, one of those errors by rehabbing Biloxi LHP Brandon Knarr (Happy Sunday 26th Birthday, by the way, Brandon). The game summary will actually show three of those errors happened in Knarr's lone inning in the 1st, and he did well to limit the damage to one run. 20-year-old LHP Osbriel Mogollon's puzzling 2024 continues - demoted from Carolina, the southpaw has walked 28 and plunked seven in 21.1 innings. Ouch. Mogollon did not allow a hit in 2.1 frames here, fanned three, yet seven free baserunners of course burned him. Twelve of LH-swinging 18-year-old third baseman Eric Bitonti's 23 hits have gone for extra bases. Can't wait for 2025 and beyond for him. Also swinging with gusto - Gery Holguin, plating right field in this one, has ten extra-base knocks among his 18 hits. Heading to the local pond with the Mrs. and my beach chairs for some morning relaxation on a lovely Massachusetts morning. Hope your day begins as nicely. The Biloxi game is a 5:05 Central start should you wish to flip over for some farmhand activity after the Brewers complete the sweep of the White Sox. Enjoy! It was four wins in five tries for the affiliates Friday night, and ironically perhaps the biggest update of the evening came out of Wisconsin (where the lone loss was), as 22-year-old 2021 4th round RHP Logan Henderson received very good news after a very good start. Actually, in terms of closeness to impact on the big-league level, the performance of one Aaron Ashby vs. dastardly St. Louis farmhands probably strikes a louder chord. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Let's investigate the productive and fascinating night! Transactions: Milwaukee Brewers optioned SS Owen Miller to Nashville Sounds. Nashville Sounds placed CF Chavez Young on the temporarily inactive list. Biloxi Shuckers activated 3B Ben Metzinger from the Development List. 2B Jose Acosta assigned to Carolina Mudcats from Biloxi Shuckers. Carolina Mudcats placed INF Juan Baez on the 7-day injured list. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes (unavailable as of post time) Final: Nashville 7, Memphis (Cardinals) 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Francisco Mejía Hits Two Home Runs as Sounds Even Series in Memphis - Aaron Ashby tosses seven scoreless innings in 7-2 win Was this one of the most important games on the Brewers' farm in all of 2024? Aaron Ashby shined in seven scoreless innings and only needed 91 pitches to do so (3 BB, 5 K, nine groundouts). There have been glimpses of this earlier - a May 1st start (5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 6 K, but 90 pitches), and Ashby's prior start on the 25th (5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 85 pitches). Perhaps it's the back-to-back nature of that most recent prior start and Friday night's that is seemingly very encouraging. If you missed it a couple of weeks back, the Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem had a pre-game interview with Ashby (you'll find it here), in which the southpaw was quite introspective on his journey back to health. I would not have guessed that switch-hitting former prized catching prospect (well before his Brewers organization arrival) Francisco Mejia had been shut out of the long ball season-to-date prior to Friday, but sure enough, even after Friday's dual blasts, Mejia is slugging only .324 through 136 at-bats. No word on Brewer Hicklen's injury status, hopefully his absence will be of the minimum 7-day variety. Tyler Black singled twice and stole his 8th base in ten AAA tries. It was a good send with two outs, but Black was cut down at the plate in the 5th, Joey Wiemer with the base knock but no RBI (via the road game video): Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 8, Pensacola (Marlins) 5 Box Score and Game Log Campbell's Multi-Double, Multi-RBI Night Leads Shuckers to Explosive Win - Biloxi’s lineup pounds out eight runs, 11 hits, three tally multiple hits in 8-5 win Whew, giant sigh of relief throughout Biloxi's stadium, clubhouse, fanbase, etc. Goodbye, ten-game losing streak! But who "missed it"? Ejections: Shuckers first baseman Ernesto Martinez Jr. ejected by 1B umpire Chandler Durham (2nd); Shuckers manager Joe Ayrault ejected by 1B umpire Chandler Durham (2nd) What happened? Our "as-it-happens" forum thread provided insight, thanks @wiguy94. Mike Boeve's two singles (plus a sacrifice fly) pushed his AA OBP to a respectable but not other-worldly .365. That's 10th in the very tough Southern League. Can you guess which Shucker is 2nd in the league at .397? Hello, catcher Darrien Miller! Outfielder Carlos D. Rodriguez is 4th at .387. Both Miller and Rodriguez doubled in this game, with CDR also singling twice (batting .310). RHP Brett Wichrowski still being eased into the AA level, it appears - as his game log shows, starts 2 & 3 in AA were strong and hinted at more success. Speaking of Biloxi pitching, plenty of insights via Pitching Coach Will Schierholz's pre-game audio with Javik Blake from earlier this week: Looks like Brock Wilken enjoyed his interactions with New Orleans Saints past and present (video via WXXV). We don't hear from Brock directly, but how fantastic are those uniforms? Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final: Fort Wayne (Padres) 4, Wisconsin 3 Box Score and Game Log TinCaps Rally Past Wisconsin - Fort Wayne scores late to beat Rattlers As always, read that summary first, then the video gives you the full picture. To top all that off, enhance your Timber Rattlers experience (despite the loss): Oh, why was that audio "newsmaking"? Three singles, no walks and seven K's over four innings for Henderson in what was his second (and final) Timber Rattlers start. So, this was the locals only chance to see one of the prized Brewer arms. Guess the quick bump to Biloxi makes up for the season-long stay in Carolina last year, in which it seemed Henderson stayed put specifically to cement the Mudcats' long-coveted playoff run. That Biloxi rotation includes Wichrowski, Jacob Misiorowski, Bradley Blaylock, Shane Smith and now Henderson, with TJ Shook apparently in a bulk relief role for now. Does one jump to Nashville in the coming week? Final: Carolina 4, Delmarva (Orioles) 2 Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Claim Series from Delmarva Plenty we can highlight here, but let's start with someone we don't mention often. I loved the hustle to the ball in left field and the throw to start off the relay here from Reidy Mercado (by the way, the Cooper Pratt throw, and David Garcia tag were sweet, too!) The 23-year-old switch-hitting Mercado, remarkably, will be a minor league free agent at season's end. This is his 7th year in the system after signing out of the Dominican Republic (yes, the lost 2020-year counts). So yes, here's Mercado, seeing sporadic playing time and toiling in low-A (he played 22 games with Wisconsin in 2022), suiting up, believing, in his mind, I'm sure, that "making the show" is an attainable goal. Mindset as it needs to be - until the uniform is torn off, baby. The two mound efforts should receive our focus - congrats on that first pro win, Josh Knoth. Here's our one video peek at just-turned 21-year-old Venezuelan RHP Jesus Rivero, closing out the ballgame and his four innings of relief in style with K # seven. A much-needed effort for Rivero, who last flashed such effectiveness in a May 2nd start. ACL Brewers 8, ACL White Sox 4, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log The A-Crew pounded out 11 hits (including two Gery Holguin home runs and a Filippo Di Turi two-run double) and worked five walks in just six trips at the plate in this agreed-upon shortened game. Holguin is in his age 18 season out of the Dominican Republic and appears to have settled in as both a corner infielder and outfielder, as his 19 games at shortstop in 2022 seem to be well past him. For the bottom three in the order, seven of eight plate appearances were successful. The sample sizes are very small (70 combined at-bats in 2024), but 1B Johan Barrios' .927 OPS and CF Ramon Moreno's .938 will catch your eye, even in the super-charged desert atmosphere. 20-year-old LH reliever Anfernny Reyes still hasn't allowed an earned run in eight appearances spanning 12.1 innings, though two unearned runs scored here. Carolina plays at 4:00 Central, kicking off the evening games for Saturday. We'll get an early box score out of Arizona. Hoping everyone enjoys the start of June baseball today! Carolina’s dynamic 18-year-old third baseman Juan Baez lands on the 7-day IL retroactive to Friday 5/30. Appeared to be an upper arm injury, even if it’s just by the one day, hopefully the retro notation indicates missed time may be limited. -

Thursday 5/30: NOTE: LH reliever Bryan Hudson appeared on MLB Network Radio's "Power Alley" - subscribers can find that within that show's archive on the app. Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and host JR Radcliffe have a nice weekend bonus episode for you looking entirely at the Brewers minor league system (we know the Brewers took three of four from the Cubs; we're saving that for the normal Monday episode). They're joined by Spencer Michaelis of Brewers Fanatic to discuss all things minor leagues, from the top-tier prospects (Jacob Misiorowski, Brock Wilken, Cooper Pratt) to the litany of pitching standouts (Carlos Rodriguez, Brett Wichrowski, Logan Henderson) to players who might still help this year (Bradley Blalock, Craig Yoho?). Then, JR is joined by Nashville Sounds play-by-play announcer Jeff Hem for more prospect talk, but also about the way the Sounds interact with the Nashville community, the relationship with the Brewers and the challenge system in the minors. Did you realize there are two versions of the system, and most players strongly prefer one to the other?"
