  2. Sunday 7/6: Latest Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast - "Spencer Michaelis joined Jaymes and Ryan to talk about a pedestrian 3-3 road trip, Brandon Woodruff's triumphant return, Miz's first rough start, how the team can find room for all the extra starters they have, and what lies in store for Aaron Ashby going forward." Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "Brandon Woodruff returned to a big-league mound for the first time in more than 1.5 seasons, and the early returns were excellent. His winning showing against Miami capped a 3-3 road trip as Milwaukee heads into the final week before the all-star break. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss that outing, the first shaky performance from Jacob Misiorowski (and levels of concern), all-star Freddy Peralta, what's next for Chad Patrick and the injury to Rhys Hoskins bringing about the dawn of the Andrew Vaughn era. In Three Up Three Down (42:30), they discuss a chilly reaction between a pitcher and infielder, the team's trouble stealing bases, and the continued struggles of William Contreras. In Remembrew When (1:04:15), JR revisits an iconic Woodruff moment. Curt Blanche takes aim at a holiday staple (1:09:45). Then, JR catches up with infield coach Matt Erickson (1:14:45), one of the few Wisconsinites on the Brewers' Major League staff. He talks about his unique big-league career and his time as long-tenured Timber Rattlers manager in his Appleton hometown." 5. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: Milwaukee Brewers sent RF Daz Cameron outright to Nashville Sounds. Biloxi Shuckers activated RHP Nick Merkel from the 7-day injured list. Wisconsin Timber Rattlers activated RHP Aaron Rund from the 7-day injured list. Wisconsin Timber Rattlers activated RHP Tanner Gillis from the 7-day injured list. RHP Gabriel Colmenarez assigned to ACL Brewers from DSL Brewers Gold. DSL Brewers Blue activated 3B Sharlisson De La Rosa from the 7-day injured list. DSL Brewers Blue activated OF Gerlyn Payano from the 7-day injured list. DSL Brewers Blue activated RHP Brailin Aguirrez from the 7-day injured list. DSL Brewers Gold activated LHP Daniel Garcia from the 7-day injured list. Congrats to the 19-year-old Venezuelan native Colmenarez, the 3rd year pro has shined in his five 2025 starts, 2.14 ERA, 0.90 WHIP. Payano, a $350,000 bonus signing, had only played in three games before landing on the IL, in this, his debut season. When De La Rosa ($200,000), Aguirrez, and Garcia first play, they will be making their professional debuts. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 9, Memphis (Cardinals) 8 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Alfaro Lifts Sounds to Win with Late Home Run Place this one in the "much tougher than it should have been" category. 27-year-old RHP Garrett Stallings - never spectacular, never a blow-up outing. Through 17 games (six starts in his last seven appearances). the swingman has only allowed three runs once, exactly that in a 4.2 inning start on June 18th. His game log reflects the valuable consistency that has led to a 2.90 ERA for Manager Rick Sweet. Stallings was solid again Saturday - your review of the box score and game log will tell you that LHP Tyler Jay and recently-touted-here RHP Joel Payamps were not. On the back side, RHP's Elvin Rodriguez and Blake Holub were money. We're spoiled with highlights. Why is that? Because it's really noticeable when somehow there's no video for Jorge Alfaro's go-ahead one-out blast in the top of the 9th. We did get this from earlier in the game. The Sounds' Social Admin person is really big into word play this season, and more often than not I've had to re-read their posts before I "get it". OK, "take care of that". My brain needs more exercise. Speaking of Quero, he caught this game, and no Redbirds baserunner attempted a steal. Andrew Vaughn drove in three with a pair of singles, and Rhys Hoskins injury watch is on in the big-league clubhouse. I know there's a lot of Ernesto Martinez fans out there, but he was on the bench again in this game, and it's becoming clear his playing time is not an emphasis. Bobby Dalbec walked three times and remains an ideal bench option for a big-league club. However, the Brewers don't have a gaping hole at the positions Dalbec could best assist with. So much goes into where in-season minor league free agents choose to sign, who knows what other offers Dalbec was weighing back on May 10th. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 6, Pensacola (Marlins) 4 Box Score and Game Log Catch up with the latest Biloxi pre-game audio interview archives Bryant Records First Double-A Save, Miller Hits Go-Ahead Homer in Shuckers Win - Shuckers earn sixth straight home series win, extend Double-A best record at home The Shuckers are now 48-24 after their 1-7 start to the season. Winning twice as many games as you lose over a 72-game stretch seems very good, yes? Hardin would throw 91 pitches before being lifted at 5.2 innings, with nary a free pass and six strikeouts (four swinging, including the final batter he faced). His opposing pitcher, Marlins 20-year-old 2023 1st round southpaw Thomas White was not as sharp, walking three, hitting Ethan Murray with a pitch, and throwing a wild pitch as well. So, give Hardin a TKO victory in the primetime matchup. Rough season at the plate for 24-year-old Minor League Phase Rule 5 pickup Garrett Spain, but this was a fun play to watch on repeat: Was this a big home run after the 7th inning stretch? Raised Win Probability by 35.6% to 89.3%. We vote yes, it was a big home run. The Biloxi "X" feed has a bit more for you. Appears to have been a simple rest day for Cooper Pratt. Luis Lara received partial rest as the DH which allowed for the Garrett Spain play above to happen. The Shuckers have only one non-catcher bench player, so Manager Joe Ayrault will cycle respites as creatively as he can. Nice work by RH relievers Ryan Middendorf and Tyler Bryant to close things out. As posted Saturday night - Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Fayetteville (Astros) 10, Carolina 2 Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Fall to Fayetteville Speaking of Social Admins, this is how one may choose to compose a game summary for a post-holiday drubbing on the road, ha. We do have to temper expectations for high school picks debuting in full-season ball. Josh Knoth was fine in 2024. Bryce Meccage has been fine in 2025 (.226 BAA, 1.31 WHIP). We're seeing what Ethan Dorchies and Jayden Dubanewicz can do. Manuel Rodriguez and Melvin Hernandez got the benefit of two seasons of complex ball, although each was exceedingly young during those stints, essentially high-school juniors. You'll see Meccage's line within this box score. Jesus Made now 37-for-43 in SB attempts, Braylon Payne 21-for-28. Made and Bitonti with late-game clips via the Carolina "X" feed. Final: ACL Guardians 8, ACL Brewers 7 Box Score and Game Log Word-for-word (thanks!) from a very helpful co-Link Reporter @Ro Mueller That's a tough loss for the ACL Brewers, falling 8-7 to ACL Guardians after blowing leads of 5-2 and 7-5. C Kevin Garcia (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) did his best to be the hero, delivering a 2-out, 2-run single to re-take the lead 7-5 in the 7th inning, then coming through again with 1-on, 2-out single in the top of the 9th inning. But all Garcia's last hit did was move LF Roderick Flores (leadoff walk that inning; 2-for-4 game) over to 3rd base, with me wondering why there was no steal attempt for Flores (26-for-31 on SBs in his career) as Fielder flew out and Ereu K'd for the first 2 outs. A Paulino infield pop-out ended it. Rehabbing DH Josh Adamczewski went 0-for-4 with a K but walked and scored the game's first run on a wild pitch. 2B Jadyn Fielder (1-for-3, 2 walks, 2 RBIs) followed with a 2-out, 2-run single in that same 3rd inning. Starting RHP Carlos Carra was effective (4 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 4 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks), but RHPs Aldrin Gonzalez (1 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 0 Ks) and Joshua Quezada (3 IP, 4 R, 7 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks) were not. Quezada gave up a 2-run homer with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th inning which gave the ACL Guardians the only lead they required in the game. That homer was the sole extra base hit for either team in the contest. CF Handelfry Encarnacion reached base 4 times (1-for-2, 3 walks, SB), threw out a baserunner at home and had an error. 1B Kevin Ereu went 1-for-5 with 4 Ks. The ACL Brewers went 4-for-18 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 baserunners as they fall to 24-23. Final: DSL Brewers Blue 9, DSL Brewers Gold 7 Box Score and Game Log Once again via Daniel "Ro" and our daily "live" thread -- In the latest DSL Blue vs. Gold Civil War, the Blue squad built a seemingly unassailable 9-1 lead before allowing 11 Gold batters to hit in the final half-inning. Blue still prevailed 9-7, with a game-ending groundout stranding the potential game-tying runners at 2nd and 3rd. 18-year old LF Angel Gonzalez (3-for-4, triple, double, RBI) and 17-year-old RHP Luis Velasquez (3.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 6 BB, 3 Ks) led the Blue Men to the 7-inning victory, with the Blue team also out-hitting Gold 12-4. 2B Joan Gutierrez (2-for-3, double, walk) and RF Frandy Lafond (1-for-2, walk, HBP, SB, 2 RBIs) each reached base 3 times, while 1B Kegnnalex Seijas (1-for-3, walk) had a 2-run double to blow the game open at 7-1 in the 6th inning. Three errors (including 2 by converted C Jonathan Rangel) and 3 unearned runs hurt Gold's cause. Their top performers were 2B Juan Martinez (1-for-3, triple, walk), Rangel (1-for-3, walk, RBI) and RHP Saul Sanchez (1.1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 0 Ks; 2 stranded inherited runners. 10. I know that Childers’ MiLB page shows his initial transaction as signing on 06/01/23 but as this post shows via Baseball America, Childers signed in August 2022 as an UDFA similar to fellow college arm Nick Merkel, who did pitch for the organization in 2022. I do remember there was some “he signed, he didn’t sign, now he’s back”, about Childers. Bottom line, the Brewers are kind enough to confirm and verify the info we post in these two threads each year (free agents, Rule 5 eligibles), which is obviously appreciated, so yes, Childers is eligible.
  11. Image courtesy of © Wm. Glasheen/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images By mid-November (the afternoon of Tuesday November 11th, we believe), teams across MLB will have to set their 40-man rosters in order to identify which minor league players they wish to protect from exposure to the Rule 5 draft in December. Last November saw the Brewers add RHP's Logan Henderson and Chad Patrick while not adding RHP Shane Smith, subsequently claimed by the White Sox with the first pick in the draft. Clearly, each of those decisions had implications on the 2025 campaign. Unlike November 2023, the Brewers did not make any November 2024 trades for a Rule 5 eligible player, as they did then, giving up OF Hendry Mendez and INF Robert Moore for INF Oliver Dunn, who was immediately added to the team's 40-man at the time. Who is most likely to be added this November, if anyone at all? Quick primer thanks to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince: What is the Rule 5 Draft? A draft that allows clubs that do not have a full 40-man roster to select certain non-40-man players from other organizations. Essentially, it is an avenue for teams to identify and give a Major League opportunity to players that they feel have been held back elsewhere. Players signed at age 18 or younger must be added to their club’s 40-man roster within five seasons or else become eligible for the Rule 5 Draft. Players signed at 19 or older must be protected within four seasons. Like the amateur Draft (officially known as the Rule 4 Draft), the Rule 5 Draft is held in reverse order of standings from the previous season. Unlike the amateur Draft, not every club will make a selection in the Rule 5. Those that do must pay $100,000 to the club from which the player was selected, and the player must remain on the new club’s 26-man roster (or injured list) for the entirety of the following season or else be placed on outright waivers. If the player clears waivers, he must be offered back to his original team for $50,000 and can be outrighted to the Minors only if his original team does not take him back. (This prevents teams from pilfering players from other teams and then stashing them in their Minor League system.) When is the Rule 5 Draft? This winter’s Rule 5 Draft will be held Wednesday Dec. 10th. There are 31 names on the eligible list this year, and it doesn't appear the Brewers will need to spend too much energy nor gnashing of teeth in the analysis (though certainly they'll be thorough). * = First Time as Rule 5 Eligible AAA Nashville: RHP JB Bukauskas RHP Will Childers* LHP Brian Fitzpatrick* RHP Blake Holub INF Eddys Leonard INF Ethan Murray LHP Thomas Pannone LHP Nate Peterson* RHP Garrett Stallings INF Freddy Zamora AA Biloxi: INF Eric Brown, Jr.* INF/OF Eduardo Garcia RHP Stiven Cruz RHP Nick Merkel* C Darrien Miller OF Hedbert Perez C Ramon Rodriguez LHP Russell Smith OF Garrett Spain UTIL Jheremy Vargas INF Zavier Warren C Matt Wood* High-A Wisconsin: RHP Patricio Aquino* OF Luis Castillo* C Blayberg Diaz C David Garcia INF Daniel Guilarte* 1B/OF Tayden Hall* RHP Edwin Jimenez C Andrick Nava OF/INF Kay-Lan Nicasia RHP Yerlin Rodriguez RHP Will Rudy* RHP Cameron Wagoner* A-Ball Carolina: RHP Quinton Low* C Edgardo Ordonez* LHP Anfernny Reyes* LHP Caden Vire* Rookie Maryvale: C Eric Martinez* OF Demetrio Nadal* Don't confuse the players on this list with the names here: "The Brewers Farmhands Set to Become Minor League Free Agents in October" - otherwise known as "The Coleman Crow will be added" article. NOTE: The Jadher Areinamo commentary below (and his photo for this article) clearly pre-date his July trade to the Rays' organization (for catcher Danny Jansen). Feel free to discuss and predict in the comments below, but I see the potentials as such: Lock: None Just Barely South of Lock: None Under Fairly Strong Consideration: INF Jadher Areinamo (turns 22 in November) Could Sneak In: INF/LF Ethan Murray (turned 25 this past May) RHP Will Childers (turns 25 in November) It says quite a bit about 2022 1st round INF Eric Brown, Jr., and his $2.15 million (under slot) bonus as the 27th overall pick that he's not a consideration at all. Brown last saw action on April 22nd with Biloxi, and had appeared in center field in one game, perhaps hinting at an alternative route to playing time. Brown's OPS in 126 games at the AA level is .528. Brown turns 25 in December, and for hope for himself and us all, can look no further than my comments on Ethan Murray below for a turnaround path next year. That overall 2022 MLB early draft class is not going to go down in history as a strong group. It was surprising to see Jadher Areinamo repeat High-A this year, though the Brewers have oft stated that the young man needed to work on his pitch selection / chase rates. Areinamo has already walked more often in 2025 (34 times) than he did in all of 2024 (33). His K rate is also up slightly but remains elite (was 11.1%, now 12.7%). The only step back Areinamo has taken is in his baserunning, just 9-for-16 in SB attempts this season (vs. 32-for-40 in 2024). He has played more games at shortstop (42) than at second base and third base combined (36). Given the other infield talent in the system, it's a possibility that the Venezuelan native is pitched in trade discussions this summer and fall. Even so, and yes, he's very young, but one would still have to sell a trade partner on the repeat of High-A. It's only a 42-game 2025 sample given early-season injury issues, but Ethan Murray's recent production and defensive versatility have placed a slightly brighter spotlight on the 2021 5th rounder out of Duke. Then again, whether he was slowed down by other injury issues or not, Murray is just one season removed from an 82-game mess of a .525 OPS in 2024. That'll take some of the shine off this season's performance to date (.880 OPS). Will Childers throws gas and is flashing a 1.01 WHIP in 2025, having just been bumped to Nashville this week. We certainly know that fireballing effective relievers can be targets in Rule 5, perhaps this undrafted free agent signing will be. The next few months will help determine that. It's clear that the cream of the crop in the Crew's system is extremely young and inexperienced in terms of time at the professional level. Nearly 100% don't qualify for Rule 5 consideration this year. Looking forward to everyone's thoughts. View full article

10th. There are 36 names on the eligible list this year, and it doesn't appear the Brewers will need to spend too much energy nor gnashing of teeth in the analysis (though certainly they'll be thorough). * = First Time as Rule 5 Eligible AAA Nashville: RHP Will Childers* RHP Blake Holub INF Freddy Zamora AA Biloxi: INF Eric Brown, Jr.* LHP Brandon Knarr LHP Brian Fitzpatrick* RHP Nick Merkel* RHP Ryan Middendorf* INF Ethan Murray LHP Nate Peterson* LHP Russell Smith OF Garrett Spain UTIL Jheremy Vargas INF Zavier Warren C Matt Wood* High-A Wisconsin: RHP Patricio Aquino* INF Jadher Areinamo* OF Luis Castillo* RHP Stiven Cruz C Blayberg Diaz INF Daniel Guilarte* 1B/OF Tayden Hall* RHP Aidan Maldonado* OF/INF Kaylan Nicasia OF Hedbert Perez RHP Yerlin Rodriguez RHP Will Rudy* RHP Cameron Wagoner* A-Ball Carolina: RHP Quinton Low* C Eric Martinez* C Edgardo Ordonez* LHP Anfernny Reyes* RHP Dikember Sanchez* LHP Caden Vire* Rookie Maryvale: OF Demetrio Nadal* RHP Alexander Vallecillo* Don't confuse the players on this list with the names here: "The Brewers Farmhands Set to Become Minor League Free Agents in October" - otherwise known as "The Coleman Crow will be added" article.
  13. Biloxi Press Release: BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers and Milwaukee Brewers have announced that RHP Nick Merkel has been reinstated from the 7-Day Injured List. The active roster now stands at 26 players. Merkel, who was placed on the 7-Day Injured List on May 27, threw 2.0 scoreless innings in two appearances with the Rookie-level ACL Brewers on a rehab assignment. With the Shuckers, Merkel held a 1.20 ERA across 15.0 innings prior to injury.

RHP Griffin Tobias assigned to Carolina Mudcats from ACL Brewers. ACL Brewers activated RHP Ismael Yanez from the 7-day injured list. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 6, Memphis (Cardinals) 1 Box Score and Game Log As of this report time, no game summary issued by the Sounds. Over his last four starts (23 innings), Tobias Myers has allowed only three runs, walking five and striking out 24. His progression topped out Friday night with his 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K effort. The stacked Brewers rotation (Brandon Woodruff back tomorrow, Nestor Cortes not far behind) is oozing depth. Myers has pitched better of late than Logan Henderson, but at best is the 7th totem pole option behind Chad Patrick (8th when Cortes returns). If Matt Arnold wants to be especially bold dealing from that depth this month, he has the ability to do so. If nothing else, a young, controllable and potentially very effective starting rotation is shaping up for 2026. Third catcher Nick Kahle (Jeferson Quero DH, Jorge Alfaro idle) doubled twice. There haven't been a lot of Tyler Black highlights in 2025, but we had a sighting Friday: Matt Childers AAA debut was uneven (1 IP, 1 R) as it included two walks and two wild pitches, but the damage was limited. Congrats to new daddy Oliver Dunn and his wife. That's how you do it before the fireworks crowd, provide in-game fireworks of your own. Kudos to this short-handed Shuckers club, currently with just 11 position players. Not only is the team now 3-10 in the second half, but the mental blunders are building up. There were examples of egregious baserunning in this one, and not the kind attributed to being overly aggressive. 19-year-old (best I can do to soften the blow, point out he's still a teenager) Luiyin Alastre was picked off first base by the catcher with the bases loaded to end what had been a two-run Wisconsin first. That's unacceptable at any level of play, and Manager Victor Estevez makes note of the deadening effect that had on his team within the podcast linked below. The Sky Carp were 5-for-5 on the basepaths, nothing unusual there as the entire Marlins' system has been hyper-focused on stealing bags this year. With Marco Dinges out, likely for at minimum a few more weeks, it's going to be a lot asking a lot of Blayberg Diaz and Victor Torres to guide this pitching staff from behind the dish. Speaking of teenagers, these games in which RHP's Ethan Dorchies (18) and Jayden Dubanewicz (19) are handling the bulk of the innings are becoming must-see, must-follow. The two combined for 8.1 innings in which only one earned run was allowed. It was hardly perfect, as the pair walked seven and Dorchies hit a batter. The numbers below for Fayetteville defines the duo "buckling down" - kudos also to RHP Dikember Sanchez who stranded two of Dorchies' baserunners, retiring the only batter he faced: Team RISP: 0-for-15. "Large Mammal" RHP Nick Merkel, rehabbing via Biloxi, has retired all six batters he's faced in his two rehab appearances as he prepares for an eventual return to full-season ball. Stellar work (again) from the tag-team of two 18-year-olds, LHP Enderson Mercado and RHP Ayendy Bravo - 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K. Second baseman Josh Adamczewski drove in a run on a sacrifice fly as he works his way back to Carolina. He exited after seven innings, almost certainly planned. The $1.4 million allocated to infielder Kevin Ereu in January of 2023 has not proved to be money well spent thus far, but he'll get the shoutout for two singles, a walk, and a stolen base (his 5th in nine attempts).
