Link Report #1 of many! -
Oh hello! Did you miss us? Thank you, MiLB, for easing us into our annual Brewer Fanatic Link Report duties with AAA action only in Week One. I join @Joseph Zarr and @Ro Mueller for another year of daily recaps, hoping to inform and entertain along the way. We look forward to having the Brewers organizational fandom join us on our journey to all the affiliate outposts for the better part of the next six months. Our regulars will recognize the format, and if you're a newcomer, welcome! Let's go! Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: OF Brewer Hicklen, recently DFA'd, was traded to the Detroit Tigers for cash - do you remember the most recent trade with the Tigers? OF Garrett Spain had previously been placed on Biloxi's paper roster, but now makes his Milwaukee organizational debut with Nashville after the Hicklen trade C Ty Duvall signed as a minor league free agent and placed on Nashville's Development (inactive) List - we introduced you to Duvall here RHP Evan McKendry placed on Nashville's Development List The Biloxi, Wisconsin and Carolina rosters are yet to be finalized - the affiliates will provide the formal rosters next Wednesday, perhaps Thursday, prior to their respective Friday April 4th Opening Nights Not an official injured list placement (yet), perhaps because he was placed on the Biloxi paper roster for now, but disappointing news here: We had to wait until the morning of Opening Day, but the Sounds announced their team with a sweet graphic: Do 16 pitchers seem like a lot? That's how many are on the active roster, you'll see 17 names (McKendry currently not counting on the active). There are 13 position players listed (12 active with Duvall's Development status). The AAA team limit is 28, so the Brewers are in compliance but with a 16/12 mix for now. Guessing we'll see a bunch of Wes Clarke in the DH spot as both he and Ernesto Martinez, Jr. are worthy of AAA at-bats. That was the case Friday. My take on the Nashville outfield is that my goodness, a sizable organizational development gap was established in recent years at that position. Among the current AAA group, nary an internal homegrown player. Between them Adam Hall and Garrett Spain have five games at the AAA level. Jared Oliva has 26 games of MLB experience with Pittsburgh, last in 2021, but spent all of 2024 at the AA level in Seattle's system. Jimmy Herron is coming off the majority of his last three years having played at AAA Albuquerque in the Rockies' chain. It should be a perfectly serviceable group, but it's certainly not prospect-laden or all that intriguing at the moment. Here's a bonus for you, although the conversation was more in general "AAA" terms than player-specific, but here's Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem's Friday interview with Nashville's 102.5 The Game radio. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes - Not available online for Opening Night Final: Nashville 7, Jacksonville (Marlins) 1 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we always encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Carlos Rodriguez Fans Seven in Sounds Opening Night Win - Sounds Swipe Five Bases on Opening Night Victory Have to love the bonus "notes" portion that dovetails every Nashville game summary. Here's a reminder - every day we'll have a thread pinned at the top of our Minor League Forum with "as it happens" reactions and insights from multiple contributors. You'll pick up quite a bit of additional info here regarding Friday's opener. As for the Nashville leadoff hitter, we have these for you: Longtime Guardians' infielder Raynel Delgado doesn't turn 25 years old until next week. He opened eyes during his big-league camp game appearances. His relative youth and overall profile make him a very intriguing player to follow. Early prediction - Delgado will see MLB time with the Crew this year, based on much more than his double and two singles in this game. I will admit that I am not the first to turn to Statcast or Savant to break down every nuance of player performances - those charts make these senior citizen eyes dizzy, to be honest. Thankfully, we have forum posters who link to such data focusing on starter Carlos Rodriguez. Wondering about his namesake and former teammate OF Carlos D. Rodriguez? He is still on Atlanta's 40-man roster but is awaiting formal placement and is not on the Braves' AAA roster at this time. As for Carlos F., this was certainly an encouraging start to 2025. He had an 8.03 ERA last April. RHP Deivi Garcia with a one-inning outing? Likely related to the 16-man staff. You'll find additional video highlights via the Nashville "X" feed. My movie theater couch experience thanks to MiLB.TV - we're back, baby! Saturday's game is at 6:35 Central, with RHP Logan Henderson on the mound. With a big-league matinee, you have no excuse to miss out! New 27-year-old LH-hitting catcher Ty Duvall - Baseball Reference MiLB Player page He'll be loving Nashville, since he's a Vanderbilt product. Drafted in the 25th round by Oakland in 2019, did not sign (returned to Vandy). Signed in July 2020 (pandemic season) with Seattle. The Mariners released him two weeks ago on March 14th. He has topped out at High-A only, missing all but five games in 2024. As his linked pages above show, his gameday experience is limited (135 games since his 2021 debut). Got married in December (congrats!) -

Sunday 3/23 Gameday at SEA: MINOR DETAILS: Over from Minor League camp: INF Jadher Areinamo (92), INF Johan Barrios (60), INF Blake Burke (73), INF Wes Clarke (97), C Blayberg Díaz (80), C Marco Dinges (28), INF Caleb Durbin (63), OF Yhoswar García (90), INF Daniel Guilarte (0), OF Luis Lara (89), INF Andruw Monasterio (14), INF/OF Demetrio Nadal (88), OF Bladimir Restituyo (98), OF Jheremy Vargas (56), INF Zavier Warren (96), C Matt Wood (99), RHP Kaleb Bowman (58), RHP Miles Langhorne (68), RHP Jesús Liranzo (84), RHP Aidan Maldonado (91), RHP Evan McKendry (66), RHP Yerlin Rodríguez (93), RHP Aaron Rund (61), RHP Jack Seppings (85), RHP Garrett Stallings (75) and RHP Justin Yeager (57). This was a live MLB Network Game, and no current big-league camp position-player Brewers made the trip. I was able to watch (thanks, DVR), and until an unfortunate Evan McKendry outing in the 8th, this Crew was beating up on Seattle's Opening Day lineup. Monday 3/24 Gameday at COL: MINOR DETAILS: Over from Minor League camp: INF Luiyin Alastre (0), OF José Anderson (98), INF Eric Bitonti (96), INF Eric Brown Jr. (92), OF Luis Castillo (93), C Eric Martínez (94), C Edgardo Ordoñez (89), INF Cooper Pratt (87), C Ramón Rodríguez (82), INF Tyler Rodríguez (88), OF Yophery Rodríguez (90), INF Zavier Warren (97), RHP Tyler Bryant (66), RHP Will Childers (99), RHP Stiven Cruz (58), RHP Aidan Maldonado (91), LHP Mark Manfredi (68), RHP Yerlin Rodríguez (57) and RHP Jack Seppings (95) This was a Brewers webcast with Lane Grindle and Josh Maurer. They did a nice job with the youngsters and found time to heap praise on Luiyin Alastre's game (after impressively mastering his name), Eric Bitonti, and Tyler Bryant, who was pumping 97-98 in his two hitless innings. There were two HBP's in the 9th that seemed to rattle him, but Chris Hook guided him to the save. VIDEO: José Anderson hits a two-run single to left field to give the Brewers the lead with a score of 4-2 in the top of the 7th inning Monday This concludes this thread for 2025, see you similarly next spring! -

Obscure but potentially impactful - How about a player who transitioned to center field at the AA level in 2024, posting a .331/.418/.416 line, albeit at age 27? Bryan Torres was only 21 when he was plucked by the Giants in the minor league phase of Rule 5 in December 2019, having played all over the diamond in his four rookie-level seasons, primarily catcher and then corner infield in his Brewers days. He had been a non-drafted player out of Puerto Rico. Torres jumped both A-Ball levels and did fine at AA in his lone San Francisco organization season, but because of the Covid-years, qualified for minor league free agency, finding no takers. Torres would crush independent ball with ironically, the Milwaukee Milkmen, in both 2022 and 2023 (.925 OPS, 1.004 OPS), before someone finally took notice for the 2024 season, that someone being the St, Louis Cardinals. Last September 7th, watch as he made this catch on the same night he went 5-for-5 (more video). Torres' career arc has been fascinating, as his Baseball Reference page shows. St. Louis just placed Torres on their AAA Memphis roster to begin 2025, it'll be his first taste of ball at that level.
