  1. Teacher here. I'm not saying there's no bad teaching going on, but teaching critical thinking to kids with an attention span of 2.1 nanoseconds and parents who think their job is to shelter rather than push is a big part of the equation too. We have kids coming into kindergarten that don't even know their own name. I wonder what their parents and siblings are doing 99% of the time? Hand them a phone to keep them from interrupting your phone time. Read to them, creative play, socialization, develop loving healthy relationships.? No way. The room isn't full of these kids, but there's enough of them to drag classes into the abyss because they are starved for attention and don't know any decent ways to get it. Administration and parents blame teachers. No public support. Anything about this sound like it would be appealing for the best and brightest people to choose to join or stay in the profession? Edit: and don't get me started on administration. Doesn't attract the best of the brightest for similar reasons. At least some teachers are there for the right reasons. Why administrators choose their job? Don't ask me. I would never be an administrator. But I can say that that many of them are not familiar with the processes of teaching and learning, and aren't great at managing, leading, or communicating. They look to the the latest and greatest idea, which is usually some repackaged old idea. They cycle through these "new" ways of doing things, provide little to no training for the teachers, then blame the teachers when it doesn't work. Then they try something else. If they haven't been fired already, and on to someone new trying some new solve-all solution.
  2. Weatherman teased a "pattern change" coming Wisconsin's way with low pressure later this week....I hope so and that it brings some snow. I miss the old days of a couple pre-christmas big snows but I'll take anything I can get at this point. In today's world and climate I'm finding the rugged, off-road capabilities of my vehicle much more useful for city street potholes than for any actual challenging driving situations 😂
  3. No, it was the yellow light of the sun that both gave Superman (and anyone from red-sunned Krypton) super powers on earth, and made him vulnerable to Kryptonite fragments. Don't ask me to explain the science though, you wouldn't understand. Now let me explain how flying around the earth backwards can make time go backwards...
  4. It's cold and I can't find the older thread like this, so discuss Wisconsin weather here. It's so cold my dog doesn't even waste 15 minutes sniffing around the yard. Just does his business so quickly I worry about him hurting himself, then time back in the house 😂
  5. Yeah, interesting concept. Pretty trope-filled
  6. So no adverse effects from the branding change, it's working as well tonight as it usually does.... which is to say not well at all. I hope the bucks find a new way to broadcast at some point too
  7. They could have given me a heads up....I thought it was some junk app on my phone and I deleted it 😂
  8. So what are our preferred options for streaming the bucks this year? Same as Brewers basically? The bally stuff still happening?
  9. I'm no expert but I'd never say he was "stout" against the run. In the past I saw him overrunning plays chasing sacks. Could the change be they're simply asking him to be more disciplined in setting the edge?
  10. I think the one factor being underappreciated in the Dillon situation is his pass protection. I've heard people (I'm mostly a podcast listener) mention he's good at it and that helps him, but almost as a throwaway comment. A couple of weeks ago the Packers put out a "best of Jordan Love" highlight video from last year. I wasn't necessarily looking for it, but it stood out how many of the completions were influenced by Dillon blitz pick-ups. He's REALLY good at it, and is basically like another very mobile offensive lineman back there. Combine that with the fact that he's decent catching the ball and he's basically a super weird 3rd down back. I won't pretend to know how this compares to his competition but my guess is that the Packers value his passing down skills more than how it's being evaluated by journalists/podcasters and fans.
  11. Sounds like it would be a lot less management if the articles were in their own forum! I'm sure all the people interested in article content could find them there.
  12. Still happening. Pixel 7, chrome.
  13. Let's not forget that the whole strike zone shifted upwards 2/3 years ago.... coincidence?
  14. This. Also, I walk a lot and a part of my route is along a busy street. I can't tell you how often a car goes by releasing a puff of smoke that I can get a contact buzz from. I have no issue with responsible use but I have no idea how people could drive responsibly in that state. I know I couldn't.
  15. Not sure if it's been brought up; but Reservation Dogs on Hulu has low key become one of my favorite shows of all time.
  16. Pushing for a deeper dip to buy on...Nice try!?
  17. I saw Dune as well and loved it, and I'm generally hyper critical of book adaptations for books I've read. Not an easy story to adapt. I expected rushed, choppy, or convoluted and it was none of those. Best sci Fi I've seen in a while.
  18. My students (seniors in HS) told me I would like it; but they said they couldn't tell me about it because it's not appropriate
  19. "I'd be stupid to try to explain my understanding of this to you since you are an econ teacher. " Please, explain away! The econ I teach is 2 units to freshman in their survey course and we aren't teaching crypto directly (yet) although it comes up a lot when we cover the basics of fiat currency. I am definitely a learner in this space (and all spaces really).
  20. I invested an amount of money I wouldn't miss in various cryptos last spring. I teach high school econ and some of my students are all over it or have questions, so I look at it as continuing ed I was shocked at how many different crypto options there are, and it remains difficult for me to differentiate their actual functions, many are etherium based. I also noticed how the entire group of them seemed to rise and fall with Bitcoin. This is troubling to me and I'm still not sure what to make of it. Is the entire crypto universe susceptible to automated investment algorithms that large numbers of investors employ? China's big impact in early summer was troublesome as well. Anyway, when I first got into it I tried to find a crypto that was doing something different or doing it differently. I zeroed in on Algorand initially and it remains the only one I'm still invested in currently (got rid of others and consolidated in ALGO). I liked it because it was built differently than other crypto, had interesting uses, boasted comparatively fast cheap and secure transactions, and claimed to be carbon negative. Earlier this year it was selected by el Salvador to build it's new Bitcoin based economy on. That is going live this week. Interestingly, it is doing well this week so far, when others (including Bitcoin) have retracted a bit. We'll see if that separation and growth continues, especially if volatile el Salvador struggles. They are reportedly heavily marketing to other countries as well. I'll be watching closely.
  21. In the slower "Downton Abbey" British genre, All Creatures Great and Small on Amazon is pretty delightful. Wife, 12 year old kid, and I are all enjoying.

    Pizza

Heading to Wausau next weekend. Looking forward to some pizza from Wausau Mining Company!
  23. congrats on the job! Keep us posted on how its going. You are living one of my dreams (the park ranger part, not the texas part) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. If it were me, I'd go with number 1. It fits your overall career plan much better and provides more stability at the same time. I think it is smarter to side with some short term issues if it means you have a better chance of getting what you really want within 5-10 years. Trust your gut though, you understand what this decision means in your life better than anyone else will.
