  1. Is he definitely not going to be there tonight, or is there a chance we get an awesome Mench-esque mid-game arrival?
  2. I don't think it's being disputed that the Brewers have interest...it's just a matter if Melvin and Co. will be willing to trade away enough to get him.
  3. I wish anyone could give me one good reason why Toronto would want Hardy. They aren't contending this year or next, so he would do very little good for them. And as noted, they still have Scutaro right now. If we send them a shortstop for Halladay, it's going to have to be Escobar.
  4. Actually as things stand right now we have a much better chance of winning the division than the Wild Card. The Giants seem to be running away in the Wild Card hunt right now.
  5. Who would the Brewers get from Atlanta though if we send JJ there?
  6. Right...it may just be posturing to get the Jays to lower their demands just a bit. I'm sure the two teams are still talking, exploring the possibility at least.
  7. I don't know how much stock I put in this. I wonder if Haudricourt actually has any new info he is going off of. I would personally say acquiring Halladay is still "unlikely"...but if Melvin thinks he needs an upper tier pitcher, or maybe Attanasio wants something done...then it has a good chance, I think. As far as making the World Series...that is so hard to predict. Anything can happen in a five game division series, for one thing. It's nice to say the goal is to make the World Series, but there are no guarantees in professional baseball. Just ask the Cubs and Dodgers last year, or the Red Sox even. The best team on paper doesn't always win. Having said that, I think Halladay would give this team a strong chance to win the NL pennant this year or next.
  8. At least the idea of trading Hardy to Boston makes more sense than trying to send him to Toronto.
  9. You why I think many around here are uncomfortable with this trade? Tom Haudricourt wrote about a trade idea that came true (at least half way).
  10. Right. Some people were saying "Gamel should get sent back down to Nashville if he is not going to play all the time. " This trade accomplishes that...so what is the problem?
  11. I do not get why the Jays would be interested in Hardy. It's not like they will realistically contend next year either.
  12. Quick! Insert the name of someone at AAA that is almost certainly cheaper than Lopez!
  13. I'm no Nostradamus like some here, but I think this would strongly point to another trade forthcoming.
  14. "simply adding Heether" As if Heether has some sort of comparable track record like Lopez's.
  15. Frank the Cat has only had about 50 ABs and is batting around .260 or so. I don't see why people need to rip on him so much. He's not great, but he's not the bane of the Brewers either.
  16. JJHardy7, you were just saying the Brewers should send Gamel down if he won't play every day. This trade accomplishes this. Also, many were saying Counsell couldn't last a whole year starting at 2B, because of his knee issues. With this trade, this won't be an issue. Really, this trade takes care of much of what was being complained about. Lopez isn't a world beater, but for half a season he will be a nice addition.
  17. He may have been mediocre the past two or three seasons, but since he is playing well this season and only under contract for this season, it's a relatively moot point.
  18. brpost, welcome to the board and congrats on your second post. It's probably been used before here, but not frequently on the Major League forum.
  19. Come on...I was not carrying the flag of AVG and RBI on that one. He has a good OBP this year...isn't that supposed to be a valued stat as well? I've never seen wOBA referenced before. You can work the numbers any way to make a point with any player, positive or negative. I doubt Doug Melvin was worried about his wOBA before making a deal.
  20. At the rate he is hitting, he'll be lucky to get a minimal raise.
  21. Me too...he's honestly still my second favorite Brewer behind Braun, mainly because he was one of the bright spots of the rebuilding years of '04-'06. Still, I know he shouldn't be starting for this team anymore. Ideally, I hope he gets traded for some place where he can play every day and re-establish himself as a solid player.
  22. I doubt the Marlins trade Hanley. He's there only real legit superstar position player, and they'll probably want him to help draw in their new stadium that is supposed to open in a couple years.
  23. WOBA? I'm sorry, but what the hell is WOBA? I get tired of third tier stats getting pulled out around here to rip on various players.
  24. Braun will almost certainly come back out of his funk, and Lopez is at least a short term fix. No more bats should be needed right now.
  25. Gamel will either be sent down or traded, I have a feeling. I really like this trade a lot. Lopez, while not a powerhouse, could help reinvigorate the lineup. It's not like it cost a ton, either.
