  1. I'll do my daily chat room plug here. Hart is looking better at the plate lately, it seems.
  2. Yeah, I heard it as well. Good job, and nice to hear Sparky so enthusiastically plug the site.
  3. A couple interesting tidbits up on MLB Trade Rumors: - Top officials from the Phillies, Brewers, Rangers and White Sox were in attendance at yesterday's Jays-Red Sox game and figure to watch this afternoon, according to Ken Fidlin of the Toronto Sun. - The last two Toronto GMs are expected to watch: Pat Gillick on behalf of the Phils and Gord Ash, who drafted Halladay, for the Brewers. I had not realized Ash drafted Halladay. That's interesting.
  4. Lineup looks good to me. I would probably bat Cameron after Fielder and put Hart in the two spot...but I'm not going to nitpick. As long as Hall isn't starting and Kendall isn't leading off, I won't complain.
  5. Disappointing to hear that Halladay may not want to come here. I would hope Melvin and Ash would sell him on the fact that we're only a couple games out of first, went to the playoffs last year with basically the same team, and he would have a superior caliber bullpen backing him up. Also he would have one of the best offenses in the NL to give him run support. They could also point to how the Brewers fan community embraced CC last year...Halladay would almost instantly get that same level of support. He'd only be here for a year and a half (probably), so it's not like he'd have to move his family or something.
  6. Why do you say that? There aren't other minor league options? Or a trade or free agent signing wouldn't be possible to fill either 3B or SS? I am not crazy about trading either one, but if you can trade one (not both) and get back a pitcher like Roy Halladay that you can make a run with this season and next, I think you have to do it.
  7. It was funny. Yesterday morning on CNN, one of their female anchors was talking to a CNN employee who had done an intenship (I think) under Cronkite. He mentioned how Cronkite would have him call all over the world just to get the spellings and pronunciations of the names of people he was doing stories on correct. The woman seemed almost shocked a journalist would go to those lengths to get the story right. Kind of sad if you think about it.
  8. Trades like that are always possible...I just can't think of anyone out there who would make sense for the Brewers. Seriously though, Hall's contract is not that horrible compared to some of the boondoggles out there (Barry Zito, Vernon Wells, etc).
  9. Maybe it just points to the fact that the Pirates are a horrible franchise who should probably be a candidate for contraction. It's hard to believe that the Brewers and Pirates used to run neck and neck for worst franchise in the NL. That seems like almost a decade ago, thankfully.
  10. Just call the game now...would be nice for the Brewers to not have to use any more relievers.
  11. Yeah, Counsell hit 9 in '05, though he had a career high for ABs as well, so it makes some sense.
  12. That's correct. To be honest, I'm kind of surprised he hasn't found a job anywhere. If he never plays in MLB again, at least he got to go out on top, winning a World Series ring.
  13. It's easy to throw out worst case scenarios like that, but it's just not very likely to happen. I would assume the Brewers could get some kind of insurance on Halladay's contract as well. He's been very healthy throughout his career, so to think he might suddenly get hurt is being overly pessimistic. Yes, it could happen...but you can't always run a baseball team on every worst case scenario.
  14. I can't see why the Jays would want Hardy. They would have him for one and a half years in which they are unlikely to contend. Doesn't make any sense.
  15. Well, I don't think it's really that big a deal. With his no trade clause, if he approves a trade to Milwaukee, I doubt he is going to turn around and demand a trade three or four months from now, with only one year left on his current contract. He wants to win, and Milwaukee is still a contender. That may work in the the Brewers favor as far as getting him to waive his NTC. I also think people are really under selling how good this team is right now. Yes, they've played through a rough patch, but the bats will get hot sooner than later. If Gallardo keeps doing what he's doing, Looper and Suppan remain relatively solid, and Parra pitches similarly to his last start, we'll be fine. We have a great bullpen as well. Halladay would put us over the top.
  16. Plus the fact that I doubt Hart would get the Brewers that much right now. Hardy would probably bring a bit more, but there aren't that many teams desperately seeking a SS they will have for just a year and a half. I think the move has to get made. It would help with this year and next season. Which brings up another point...do people expect the Brewers to be able to get a top flight starter via trade or free agency this off season? Or do they really think Gallardo alone can carry the rotation the rest of this season and next? Most contenders have two great pitchers at the top of their rotation. Currently the Brewers only have Gallardo, which is why they need Halladay or someone of similar caliber. Expecting a 23 year old (no matter how good he is) to carry your team into the playoffs is foolish.
  17. Most of those moves were pretty middling, and the Lee trade made a lot of sense, not just from a contention standpoint, but from the fact that he was going to be gone at the end of the season anyway, and they needed a closer. I never got why so many complained about acquiring David Bell for basically nothing.
  18. I just don't get how this team can score 9 runs one night and put up a zero against Bronson Arroyo of all people the next. I know every team gets shut out from time to time, but it seems like the Brewers have been making it a bit of a habit the last few weeks.
  19. Not if he stays in shape like he is this season.
  20. The Brewers were still in contention at that point. Maybe not odds on favorites at that point, but only 4 GB in the WC hunt at the end of July is still contending, with two months left in the season.
  21. I would think if the Brewers could take Halladay and one other significant contract from Toronto, it shouldn't cost quite as much in terms of what Melvin would have to give up. What does everyone think of what Melvin said as far as the possibility that they could trade for him and then he would ask for a trade after this season? I would think if Halladay waives his no trade clause to come here, that would be a pretty remote possibility.
