  1. He must be going to the same doctor as Manny Ramirez.
  2. How is Hardy possibly worth that much per year right now? Seems like he should get about $4-5 million per year at most.
  3. "Wouldn't it be nice going into next season pretty much having your rotation set and not having to try and deal for a SP." That's what I keep coming back to. Even if the Brewers don't make the playoffs this season (a real possibility right now) they would at least have a top tier pitcher lined up at the start of 2010. It's not like Melvin will be able to find anyone comparable during the off season.
  4. From MLB Trade Rumors:http://www.stltoday.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=644756 Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that the Cardinals will trade Chris Duncan to the Red Sox for Julio Lugo. On his Twitter Miklasz says the Cards won't be responsible for Lugo's salary. Duncan has a career .851 OPS against right-handers and is under team control through 2012.
  5. I doubt one series loss will determine whether or not Melvin makes a trade. But the Brewers had better start winning some games quickly if they do want some help.
  6. Today's loss pushed me more toward the "stand pat and hope for the best" crowd. This was a game they should have won today and they just couldn't get it done. I know you can't measure a team by one win or loss, but it's been a consistent pattern of this team over the last several weeks. They haven't had back to back wins since June 29th and 30th. They just don't look like a playoff team right now, and if they can't reel off some wins really quick, I doubt Doug Melvin is going to be motivated to make any trades.
  7. Probably. It's just a question of how many more. Someone on this site a while ago said FSN's main problem was with the amount of bandwidth available at any given time. With them carrying so many teams, there's only so much to go around, I guess. Hopefully the Brewers' new contract mandates all games (or at least most) being in HD.
  8. I'd love to hear that Melvin is at least inquiring about him, but so far doesn't sound like anything is happening on that front.
  9. I noticed during the All Star break during one of those "second half previews" they talked up the Reds and barely mentioned the Brewers at all, as far as the NL Central. I think they really believe we won't be able to hang on...or they just hate Milwaukee. Eating cheese and getting hammered does sound better than watching most of the four letter network's programming, though.
  10. Got rear ended yesterday in Oconomowoc...nothing too bad, just inattentive woman behind me not paying attention in bumper to bumper traffic. Just a small dent on my rear bumper, so nothing too bad. Just annoying.
  11. Brewers haven't won back to back since the end of June against the Mets, so winning tomorrow would be huge.
  12. I'd love to get Cliff Lee, but again fear the price would be way high.
  13. They already have Questec in all the stadiums now, if I'm not mistaken. The home plate could simply relay the balls and strikes called by the computer. Seems easy enough. As far as other calls, I wouldn't have a problem with maybe giving each manager one appeal a game, or something. I wouldn't want it to be like the NFL where every other play seems to go for review.
  14. You have to agree with everything Tom said there. I really wish Selig and MLB would get serious and do something about umpiring in general. The general bad calling and lack of umpire accountability has been way out of line this year.
  15. I heard this, and actually there were a couple other things: - Says McGehee will need surgery after the season. - Said he has been looking at relievers, simply because "there's no starting pitching available."
  16. They did sign a new TV contract a couple months ago, though terms haven't been discloses publicly (at least to my knowledge).
  17. I agree. The pitchers and offense are both accountable right now for the current struggles. Time to step up and make the coaching staff and manager look good for a change. I think Sveum's suspension is rather bunk though. I'd like to see what kind of review happens to that ump for his terrible calls.
  18. I guess I just think the chance is pretty remote. There's only been one guy to do that in the last few years (Javier Vasquez, I think?). I guess I would believe that if the trade doesn't happen, it's not going to be due to Melvin's fear that he'll ask for a trade after approving one a few months earlier. It just seems pretty far fetched.
  19. Yeah, but how many years will it take for them to reach their peaks? And then how long will they be around before they're traded or leave for free agency? It's very important to push with this current group, or a couple years from now we might be looking at another four or five year rebuilding period.
  20. That's because he had a monster May. He is still batting like .280 and has an OBP around .350, IIRC. I don't think it's any secret he can't be starting full time the rest of the season, though.
  21. Since I think our window to have a legitimate chance to win a World Series is probably this season and the next couple years, I would think it will definitely happen with Braun, Fielder, and Co.
  22. From what's been said about him, it sounds like Halladay is a pretty stand up guy. I doubt he would approve a trade to Milwaukee, only to turn around and demand a trade only three or four months later. Of course, you never know for sure I guess.
  23. I agree. Even in his starts last season he never went deep into games. Trying to shoehorn him into a starting role is just going to tax the bullpen even more.
  24. I can see both sides. Frankly though, for as frequently as Braun and Fielder have been getting hit lately, I think a message was in order.
