  1. That thing is almost depressing to look at, at this point. I hate that thing. But since is the Silver Lining thread I will frame my opinion in a different way: we have an owner with an appreciation for the finer things in life (and, more importantly, the money to realize them)... any future banner hanging will be precisely that. A banner hanging. No one is going up there with a bucket of paint and a stencil ever again. There will soon be a dramatically new, durable, satin-y, embroidered-y, bi-coloric physical banner flag secured to the track beam and capable of flapping in the wind. (not to mention capable of being reproduced in miniature and sold as a facsimile in the gift shop) Is that something that's going to really happen? They're actually going to replace that dingy looking painted epithet over left field?
  2. They have done some things. Remember the "take back Miller Park" rally a couple years back? Really, this whole argument is silly. Once someone buys a ticket, there is absolutely NOTHING the Brewers can do to prevent that person from re-selling the ticket to anyone they want. Why can't people just accept that reality? I think the best solution is for the Brewers to win a pennant...so many Wisconsin fans will want tickets the following year, and actually want to attend the games, the amount being sold to Cubs fans will likely go down. Other than that, there is no magic solution that Mr. Attanasio can use to prevent people from re-selling their tickets. Nothing. Get over it.
  3. There was story this morning on the news about a couple idiot Cubs "fans" who assaulted someone after the game, and are now in jail. Possible felony charges.
  4. Again, what do you people want Mr. Attanasio to do? I've heard no sort of substantive suggestions related to the subject.
  5. I'm not talking about the loss, or relating it to the amount of Cubs fans in our stadium. It is embarrassing to me as a fan to know that my fellow fans are selling their tickets to Cubs fans. If I were the owner, I would NEVER allow this to happen. Free market my butt. Do something about it Mark. How can you own a team and allow your team's house to be invading by the enemy? What the hell do you expect Mark Attanasio to do? Once someone buys a ticket, they can basically do whatever they want with it. Let's get a grip here.
  6. I don't care about the fan thing. The Brewers themselves basically didn't show up for the game tonight. Who cares if there are more Cubs fans than Brewers fans...it didn't seem to matter much either way. So disappointing these last two games.. I could just feel that this would happen yesterday afternoon, though. We come off a road trip, drop two games to the Astros, and get set up for a sweep against the Cubs. The fact that it's happening at Miller Park just makes it worse. It's like it's NEVER our turn...I'm just sick to death of it.
  7. OK, that made me chuckle. Good for him, whoever it was.
  8. They're on the wrong coast. If they were the New Jersey Angels of New York or New England Angels of Boston they would get hyped non-stop.
  9. I was going to post this before, but got side tracked, so here goes... I would love to see a break down of how many people from Milwaukee attend the games, as a percentage of the total attendance. I know the Brewers rely heavily on people attending who live beyond the greater Milwaukee area. Personally, I sometimes wonder if the residents of Milwaukee itself couldn't do a better job getting to games. As someone who lives out in Jefferson County, I still make it to 10 or so games a year.
  10. Honestly, I too, am surprised a bit that he got traded. I wouldn't know, because I don't follow the Braves that closely, but are Atlanta fans going to be upset about this? They seem to have gone into the mode recently of letting a lot of their big names go.
  11. I don't think briefly watching a ball go out or pumping your fist is "showing up the other team." If it is, then the Brewers are getting in their heads, and that's only a positive for us. Like was pointed out, many other players do it, and it's been going on for years. I think it's a little ridiculous to single out Braun for it.
  12. I can't tell if you're being sarcastic here or not. If you're not, then I really have a beef with what you wrote.
  13. Well, if Weeks got the free pass due to the wrist injury for a year and a half, Suppan should be given some slack due to his recent DL stint.
  14. I think that would be the best move for him. He can clearly still hit, but the defense has to wear on him, I'm assuming. Maybe he could go back to Seattle...
  15. I do agree (slightly) that using the term "big boy time" more than once was rather silly. However, I agree with everything else Haudricourt wrote. He's basically just saying what virtually everyone is thinking anyway. I don't think you have to necessarily bust Weeks down to AAA to fix the problem. Just play Durham and/or Counsell more. Isn't there a reason these guys are on the team, other than to make sporadic pinch hitting appearances? One more thing: I made this point in the chat last night, but then a Brewers player hit a homer and it was promptly lost in the chat room hysterics...I just don't get why so many on this board have embraced, and continue to embrace Rickie Weeks, especially when compared to some of the other Brewers youngsters. I know he mashed in the minors, but so many other guys on this team are outshining him, I don't understand the continued fandom he seems to enjoy on this forum. I want him to succeed too, but nothing in his recent performance tells me that he is suddenly going to bust out and become the perennial All-Star that many were predicting. At one point a couple years ago he reminded me of Gary Sheffield (and I mean that in a good way). Now, the only reasonable comparison I can make is someone like Corey Patterson...not exactly the kind of MLB player to get hyped about.
  16. Any sort of pennant or even an "NL Wildcard 2008" plaque of some sort would look good next to that lonely 1982 pennant above left field. That thing is almost depressing to look at, at this point.
  17. I've said it before, but look at how many young guys the Brewers have called up over the last 4+ years...maybe Rickie is just going to be the one bust out of the bunch. The Brewers have had a great string of success with their young guys (a surprising amount, frankly), but you can't win 'em all.
  18. I'm thinking that if the Brewers do acquire Halladay, it could be this off-season (assuming both Sheets and Sabathia leave), and not in the middle of next season. (3000 posts! Woohoo!)
  19. I am in the same camp. I just can't bring myself to care. If nothing else interesting is on, I may watch bits and pieces here and there; but I don't follow the individual athletes and don't care if the USA wins the most medals or not (call me unpatriotic, but I just don't think it means a lot in 2008).
  20. I can see Griffey making 3000 hits, but I somehow can't see him making it to 700 homers. I could be wrong. As for Ichiro, I can see him making 3000 hits, which would be a monumental accomplishment, considering his career road. A shoe-in Hall of Famer at that point, if he isn't so already.
  21. I would have to agree. Also, what was the point of obtaining Ray Durham if the guy barely ever plays? At least give him a chance to start more than once every couple weeks, or whatever it's been. Rickie is struggling again, and it's totally obvious he should at least sit out a few games to get back on track (though I doubt anything short of another AAA stint will get him back on track).
  22. I completely disagree with everything you just posted. Braun is a little bit cocky...I get the feeling that if he played for the Yankees or Red Sox, no one would care. He plays for the lowly Brewers though, so we're just supposed to be surprised and happy when our guys do well, I guess.
  23. I hope, personally, that if the worst case happens and he is done, Brewers fans will look back and remember the guy fondly. I'd rather remember when Turnbow for when he'd come in and be lights out, than when he was falling apart before getting sent to AAA.
  24. I heard it put on the radio today, "The Yankees are basically doing the Mariners a favor if they eat Washburn's contract, so they are going to do the trade on their own terms, not Seattle's." I can't see why they would do that _and_ give up one of their big trading chips. I do agree that Melky is overrated due to being a Yankee, though.
  25. Heard the D-Backs mentioned as a possible suitor, but I doubt they'd have anything the Red Sox would be looking for.
