  1. I wouldn't be against signing him to a minor league deal. It wouldn't be bad to have an experienced 1B backup around, now that LaPorta has been traded.
  2. The problem is the umpire's union. I don't know if MLB could just lock them out and hire new guys, but I doubt it.
  3. He's trying to dislodge a piece of tofu from his throat.
  4. I didn't ask. It just doesn't fit my personal views of the world, I guess you could say. They were happy when they found out I had proposed, so it didn't rattle any cages regardless.
  5. I'd love to see Prince charge at Carlos Zambrano, and see them both start hopping around on one foot like that.
  6. If Gagne keeps pitching like he did last night, and the team makes the playoffs, it will be well worth his salary. Hopefully the fan excitement from last night continues to carry through with the rest of the Brewers home games. I believe it does give the team a big boost when they're playing at home.
  7. Also, what happens if Sheets and Sabathia both walk in free agency? Do you still want to trade Suppan then? Say the Brewers can't land any ace level pitchers in free agency...your rotation is then Gallardo/Parra/McClung/Bush/Villanueva, I guess. Doesn't really inspire too much confidence, personally.
  8. Didn't we just have this thread like two or three weeks ago? I won't dig for it right now. I just think people are undervaluing Suppan's durability (regardless of his latest DL stint).
  9. Braun being in it would be nice, but if his hand is that bad right now, there's no reason to risk further aggravating it.
  10. I think everyone needs to calm down about which low level minor league players may or may not be involved in this deal.
  11. Perhaps it came out different from how you indended, but that's not an acceptable way of stating your opinion. It's not my place to say, but I think you're being a little over bearing on this one. I don't think he meant to offend anyone.
  12. Personally, I'm thinking McClung will stay in the rotation and Bush to the bullpen, but I could be wrong.
  13. Well, the press conference is tomorrow (don't know what time). That should clear it all up.
  14. That's a pretty bold statement. Let's say the Brewers get to the playoffs (not necessarily win it all, just make the playoffs). They'll have extra revenue from that, plus the payroll that is already going to Sheets and Sabathia...also, Gagne is leaving, and probably Cameron and others. They'll have money to sign a top tier pitcher, assuming they want to (which they will). There's only so many teams with so much money to tie into a starting pitcher. Believe it or not, snatching up every top pitcher is beyond even the means of the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Angels, etc.
  15. I never said you hated the trade. Maybe you shouldn't try to pick semantics arguments where none exist.
  16. Sabathia, because he is younger...but since it's highly unlikely he will be signable by the Brewers, Sheets.
  17. Well, assuming the reports are true and it's LaPorta with a couple lower level guys (not Gamel/Escobar/Salome/etc), I think it is safe. Would you rather the Brewers had just forgotten about a "2 or 3 game difference" and did nothing, or perhaps traded less for a lesser pitcher?
  18. Yes, it's a popularity contest, and the Brewers are doing well in it now, after years of sending only one token player we might be lucky to see play in the mid-summer classic. Good for the franchise, says I.
  19. I'm late to the party (was out of town all weekend, and then got to see the Brewers beat the Pirates today, and also found out my favorite player was voted in as a starter on the All Star team). To me this trade is a no brainer. The Brewers are trading a guy who is still in AA (along with a couple other players) for the reigning AL Cy Young winner. Hard to say no to that one. It's time to go for it, and the Brewers are going for it. What a great day.
  20. I know it's not official until the "All Star Selection Show" on TBS, but any word on how things ended up shaking out with the vote?
  21. That's why I was proposing my idea...Seattle clearly has to rebuild, but a swap involving more position players would set up Seattle more quickly than just trading for Prince alone. Also, the Mariners have apparently already told some teams they don't want to trade Ichiro, but acquiring Fielder might be enough to make them move him, since he's quite marketable.
  22. With both teams being contenders for the playoffs, I tend to doubt it would be some huge trade involving starters on either team.
  23. Not that I have any preference for high life over MGD, but after reading the reports about how commonly tap beer is contaminated http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif, I now stick with the plastic bottles. Funny, I've never had a single problem, and I drink tap beer all the time.
  24. I'll never understand why the second half of every season is essentially completely discounted in All-Star voting. Also, I don't think accomplishments in an inferior league (because MLB is the best baseball in the world) should factor in voting. It would be like voting for a guy who was the AAA MVP (or whatever their equivalent award is).
