  1. I'm liking the Hamilton/Block tandem the more I listen. Block sounds so much more comfortable and natural when he has a second person to interact with throughout the game. Hamilton is doing a good job keeping the flow in the announce booth going. He tells good stories and I think relates to the players on the field, which brings a new dynamic to the radio broadcasts. Would it be crazy for them to somehow keep Hamilton around and go with a three man team from now on? I know it probably can't happen this season because of Hamilton's MLB Network gig, but I hope it's something they maybe think about for the future.
  2. Was Ed Sedar telling Gomez to hold at second or not? I think that makes a big difference.
  3. Estrada would probably become a long man in the bullpen, I'd guess.
  4. I'm excited to see what Nelson can do. I agree that moving Gallardo to the DL seems to make sense right now. Yo missing two starts shouldn't sink the team, even if Nelson struggles.
  5. They're also really expensive to take out. It's not like paying for your car insurance.
  6. It seems like if a team really wants the "veteran leadership role" filled, they could just hire a recently retired player as a special assistant coach or something. You don't need a veteran with a .500-ish OPS wasting a spot on your 25 man roster. It's not like guys like Lohse, Garza, Weeks, Braun, and Reynolds are young whippersnappers at this point, either.
  7. Hard to say. Uecker is probably going to be around until he either physically can't do it anymore, or he passes on to the big ballpark in the sky. The past few years have shown that his sidemen will take another opportunity if it comes along (and I don't blame them for that at all). Some other team could come calling on Block and offer to make him their number one guy, and he'll probably take it.
  8. He tells some pretty good stories and I think he has a much better rapport with Joe Block than Uecker does.
  9. I don't think Morris is going to end up being a great MLB player, but Overbay is washed up and terrible. I agree that there's no reason to keep him around. Morris at least deserves a shot...if he fails, so what? At least we'll know what we actually have in him finally.
  10. I don't know about anyone else, but I think Mr. Hamilton has been doing a good job filling in for Uecker on the current road trip. He and Block seem to actually be a decent pairing.
  11. I missed most of the game, though I got to hear a bit on the radio. It's tough not to like Mark Reynolds.
  12. I agree the hitting is the problem here, but they actually won 4-3 on Friday against the Cubs. They've scored 9 runs total in their past five games. Still not very good, though.
  13. I really hope Melvin isn't just standing pat, but I'm not seeing any evidence to the contrary. Anyway, good summary as always, 'stache.
  14. It's getting pretty frustrating. I really think (or maybe I simply hope) that Melvin is evaluating things and trying to come up with some options fast. It's hard to pin losses like this on Roenicke when he's so hamstrung right now.
  15. He just has no business being on the MLB roster of a playoff contender. Nice story or not, "potential" or not, he does not belong on the 25 man roster at all right now. This is "big boy time" right now and the roster needs to be optimized as such.
  16. I have to believe Melvin is evaluating the situation with the Brewers' offense currently...I just hope he does something to fix it sooner than later.
  17. Corey Hart is an interesting idea, but the downside is that he hasn't been exactly stellar so far this season. In 36 games he is hitting .210/.292/.355. I wouldn't give up much of value to get him at this point.
  18. Hard to be too angry about Garza's bad first inning, since he's since held the Cubs to a goose egg, and the Crew's offense is AWOL today.
  19. This Marcum? [pre]POSTSEASON PITCHING STATISTICS SEASON GP IP H R ER HR BB SO W L WHIP ERA 2011 3 9.2 17 16 16 3 5 5 0 3 2.28 14.90[/pre] I certainly did not enjoy Marcum's contribution to the end goal. Not to divert attention away from Lawrie... but if Marcum came up with a few wins in the playoffs instead, I could be celebrating the trade still. It took me a long time to stop using Marcum as my favorite 4 letter word... He wore down as the season went on and we ran out of options. Can't really judge a trade or player on about one game's worth of stats. I'm not going to go dredging up stats from that series at this point, but I remember some of our key hitters performing pretty poorly in that final series against the Cards.
  20. I see that he's not even 34 yet, so good for him. I liked him when he was here with the Brewers.
  21. I don't count extra inning games. Those are 50/50. Too bad Major League Baseball doesn't do the same and they still count in the W-L columns.
  22. I'm kind of shocked he's still around.
  23. Maybe they're waiting until after the draft to sign Morales so they don't have to give up a pick.
  24. This is just a ridiculous viewpoint. I can't really address it any further than that.
  25. Yup. http://sigroup.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/35covv15_promo.jpg
