  1. I'd approach him after this season and give it one more shot...if he balks again at that point, you can look at doing something.
  2. Actually, if I understand correctly, that would be a huge boon to small market teams like the Brewers. Internet revenues are shared equally between all 30 teams. I bet MLB and the other leagues are watching what WWE is doing right now with great interest...they're charging $9.95 a month for basically unlimited access to all their shows and pay-per-views, via the internet. I could see most pro sports going to something like that eventually.
  3. When did we give Corey Hart a long term deal? Also, if Fielder's contract with Detroit was such a great idea, why did they trade him two years later?
  4. Just got tickets yesterday afternoon. Wife and I are going with my parents. Hoping weather will be nice enough to tailgate, but we'll see.
  5. Here is the White House's official response to the petition: Honoring Our National Pastime By Josh Earnest, Principal Deputy Press Secretary and a lifelong Kansas City Royals fan "Thanks for your petition and your participation in We the People. For more than a century, American presidents have celebrated Opening Day -- from President William Taft's 1910 first pitch from the stands, to President Obama toeing the rubber at Nationals Park in 2010. Opening Day signals a new beginning, not only for the 30 Major League Baseball teams playing for their shot at a title, but for the millions of fans who will follow the 162-game journey -- from "Play ball!" through the last out. That includes President Obama, who will be rooting for his White Sox to go all the way. While we are sympathetic to your pitch to make Opening Day a national holiday, it's a little outside our strike zone: creating permanent federal holidays is traditionally the purview of Congress. So, it's up to the men and women on Capitol Hill to decide whether to swing at this pitch. To celebrate Opening Day, we'll be honoring the 2013 World Series champions, the Boston Red Sox, here at the White House on Tuesday. Meanwhile, I'll spend that day visualizing what it would be like to welcome my 2014 World Series Champion Kansas City Royals to the White House. That is, after all, the best part of Opening Day: every team is tied for first place and poised to make a run at the Fall Classic."
  6. I agree that it would be nice if more contracts in baseball weren't guaranteed, but in this case I have to side with Wolf. He negotiated a contract in good faith with Seattle and then they tried to slip this in last minute. I think a bad taste would be left with many of us if our employers tried to do something similar.
  7. I actually knew that. It's a pretty interesting story: http://www.snopes.com/history/american/tylergrandsons.asp
  8. Yeah, it was a good time, though this was one of the smaller groups we've had in recent years. Maybe next year we'll look at shaking things up a bit and see if we can do something different to encourage more people to come. I realize that with the Badgers playing, a lot of people probably had other plans last night. We had some fun discussions about various topics last night, and it was cool for me to meet a couple long term members for the first time. I like the new Friday's. It feels a little bit more upscale than before. I can see memorabilia throughout the stadium, so I don't think the removal of it from Friday's is a big deal.
  9. Too bad for him, but he's never made the Brewers regret including him in the Sabathia trade at least.
  10. Scary situation. Not sure what the answer is to avoid situations like this going forward, though.
  11. Cool. The more the merrier...sports fan or not. And yes, as hawing mentioned again, please mention here or contact one of us if you plan to attend.
  12. Planning on going with my wife and my parents. No tickets yet, but we knew we'd be buying after market anyway this year. Hoping for slightly warmer temps than last year.
  13. Just six more days! Looking forward to seeing some old and new faces this year!
  14. No problem LaprilOne. Things happen. Hope a few more of you can make it...seriously, don't be shy. These are always fun events, with plenty of camaraderie and Brewers baseball talk to be had!
  15. I am not in favor of cutting Fat Juan in favor of Overbay. Overbay is completely washed up. Francisco at least has some level of potential for getting better.
  16. If he earns a spot, you have to keep him up, plain and simple. Lefties who throw strikes at 95+ don't always grow on trees.
  17. I'm in the "No" camp. Too much risk for the Brewers and not much upside at this point. Hopefully he comes out of the gate pitching well and can be traded if the team is out of it come July.
  18. I agree, but the NFL isn't exactly about listening to the fans.
  19. Good move on the business cards. Not sure what you were thinking telling them you didn't want to live in San Francisco. I know everyone says foot-in-mouth things sometimes though, especially during interviews. Years ago, after college, when I was trying to get into radio, I applied and was interviewed for a one night a week, part time news position at WTMJ. The guy asked me where I saw myself in five years. I said, "Working as a DJ at an FM rock station." Well, that interview lasted literally about five minutes.
  20. What's really the point of making a Sunday a national holiday though? Most people are already off work, including the vast majority of federal and state employees.
