It was just a 3 or 4 minute bit/thought on MLB Network by Showalter, but you did not misunderstand what he proposed. I agree teams would game it somehow and I believe it was every team.
I think you nailed it right on the head with both available options and rest. Every year that goes by it seems pitchers need more and more rest. I'm sure a reliever needs extra rest after back to back outings.
Also, just heard Pat Murphy and Joe Espada are the 2 NL front runners for manager of the year.
Milner recently made two scoreless rehab appearances to clear the way for his return to the Brewers' bullpen. He has been sidelined since mid-August due to a left shoulder impingement.
As said earlier his velocity has been trending in the wrong direction and the Brewers want to see him get that ticked back up in a less pressurized environment for the post season.
I hope its Hoby Milner we option and not Aaron Ashby.
Hoby's ERA is 6.75 over his last 30 appearances and 4.92 for the year. That is not a very reliable post season reliever.
Not that it matters anymore but

I'm not following you at all with your chart that says Wilsons ERA is 16.62 ???
He pitched 104 innings with a 4.04 ERA. But he has been used in long relief as of late for about 3 innings.
Buck Showalter was on MLB Network this morning and said that he would like to see every team get One "Mulligan Trade" in September before the playoffs start. Because....
"You would hate to see a playoff team work hard all year and have a crucial injury in September and lose everything." I knd of like that idea.
I will guess 16-10 and hope AZ and COL, who we seem to have more trouble with than we should we can conquer now. At least we play them in Milwaukee this time around.
