  1. Man... Narveson has to be PO'd sitting in the pen right now. Couldn't have done anything more in the spring other than make more money.
  2. Davis' first two starts are reminiscent of a left-handed Jeff Suppan...
  3. I will never watch Sunday Night Baseball with the sound on again. I will never attempt to transcribe Joe Morgan's self-debate about small markets. Period.
  4. I wonder how much of this is on the pitches being called as well. I'm not sure if the catchers are handling him as well as they could be. He's gotta be changing speeds more often, these hitters are timing the fastball big time. It will be interesting to see if he gets the ball tomorrow. 30 pitch night outing followed by a day game.
  5. Needed someone with some heat to back him off the plate... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. I'm a fan of this lineup. Hope they can get this one. Know it's early, but it's never good to get swept at home in the division.
  7. Interesting quote from Bush on the HR he gave up to Holliday- "The home run, I really didn't miss my spot. It was probably a poor choice of pitches. I actually threw it right where (catcher) Gregg (Zaun) was sitting." Now... did he shake him off, or is he calling out his catcher here? The reason I ask is I couldn't believe Zaun set up inside in that situation, and I couldn't believe he did it again in the 9th with Hoffman.
  8. The question has to be asked- What is it with Zaun, and setting up inside with soft-tossers? Yeah, it wasn't a great swing, but something that slow and inside is BEGGING to be pulled out. Same with Holliday's homer.
  9. I've been perusing the last few pages, and I'll say this. There's a theme across the top 4 BCS conferences this year- each league has 3 great teams and a bunch of mush in the middle. Arguing conference rank at this point is pretty futile, since the top teams in each league are about even. I would not want to be on the selection committee this year. There are going to be a lot of teams with very, very similar resumes.
  10. I remember awhile back someone had scans of the album covers for "Brewer Fever" and "Turning Up The Heat." I had these as the art for the songs in iTunes, but accidentally deleted them. I've searched high and low but to no avail, so if anyone knows where to find these I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
  11. JJ- I'd argue that Bo didn't want to deal with Tim Maymon, just as much as any academic red flag. That was pretty well known as well. Maymon certainly was a risk, and it backfired, not because of grades though. The only reason Bo doesn't recruit JUCO's is because he doesn't want to. Not because they can't get in. Zach Morley was a non-qualifier out of HS. That seemed to work out fine. They're in on another JUCO guard as well. Also keep in mind there are JUCO's who are qualifiers out of HS that go that route to get noticed. MU has 3 of those guys, Fulce, Butler, and DJO. Far from academic risks. The reason Buzz has gone that route is to balance the classes out after Crean's entire 07 class left. Citing the amount of JUCO players isn't a great argument when you sit down and look at each case.
  12. If he transfers now, he'll still have to sit out a year. But the year will be spring and fall semester '10. So the soonest he could play would be late December of next year.
  13. Well, if what I'm hearing is correct, we'll all know Tim Maymon's side of the story very soon. Thought the stories on him were sour grapes... guess I was very, very wrong on that.
  14. Well, I'll eat my crow. This came pretty much out of left field. Buzz gave no indication on his radio show tonight, right before this dropped. As for Vander, Mark Miller has a story up and Vander will honor his LOI. Mark was the one reporter their family allowed in during the recruitment, so I take this as very solid. http://www.wissports.net/sports/hoopsb/blog/message.aspx?f=123&id=1102225
  15. Ding Ding. By all means, UW should be proud of how selective they are in admissions. But that doesn't have anything to do with athletics. There is, and will always be different standards for athletes, and those are no more difficult than almost all BCS conference schools. So the constant harping on some sort of academic superiority with their athletes is a farce. Like I said, they admitted guys like Boo Wade, Ron Dayne, and Booker Stanley. Marcus Landry was no genius out of Vincent either. They routinely hide guys in "majors" like agricultural journalism. So having some guy on a messageboard imply a MU player is either learning disabled or used illegal help to qualify really pisses me off.
  16. Exactly! Thank you Diskono. It is a great crutch for has-been programs like ND... Other than a select few schools, if you qualify you're admitted.
  17. Must not be, because your reading comprehension isn't any good. Yes, for the average student, UW is more stringent. No one will disagree with you there. But for athletes it's the same just about everywhere.
  18. That is of course he is still in school then. Going off what I know about him, he would have fit in perfectly to FSU(see the Outside the Lines this weekend).Being a teacher in Madison, including summer school the last two years......yep, I agree with jwill 100%. I would be careful when I compare anyone to Maymon. His record as a student is very shady, and in fact, very, very bad. He was incredibly un-popular with his teachers. Very sad to see....hopefully he really has turned it all around at MU Come on. By all accounts he got off to a rough start but managed turn things around. He's been fine at MU, no problems with him at all. I don't like the FSU implication one bit. Need I remind you this was the program that had two players academically ineligible a couple years ago. And one that had two players arrested a couple months ago. The standards for athletes are no tougher at UW than any other school not named Stanford, ND, or Northwestern. See Dayne, Ron and Stanley, Booker. Or maybe McGee, Marcetteaus. Those in glass houses...
  19. 9 more fouls on MU, 12 more FT attempts for UW. Not the difference but it sure as hell didn't hurt.
  20. 1) Bell's- As a Stout guy, it doesn't get better than Double Cream, and their Rye stout. Like the Amber, Oberon, and Two-Hearted as well. 2) New Glarus- Really have never had a bad beer from them. 3) Founder's- Red's Rye, Breakfast Stout, Cherise.... all great stuff. 4) Three Floyds- When I need hops, this is where I go. 5) Rogue- Can be tough to find, but they make some damn good beer. Love the Chocolate Stout. Honorable Mention- Capital Brewery, Left Hand Brewery, Tyranena
  21. The part with Michael as JC on the microphone cracked me up.
  22. Agreed. UW has made how many tourneys in a row? A legit program like that should not storm the court in that situation. It's the first week in December, for crying out loud. Act like you expect to win at home. And like I said earlier, that was the perfect matchup for UW, maybe an upset in ranking, but not so much on the court. The gap is not that large. I'm sure it was fun for those on the court, but it didn't look great to the outsider on TV, IMO. Duke is not what they once were.
