  1. Wow, this thread has only 4 (ok, make that 5) pages. I guess this 7 game losing steak weeded out all of the fair weather guys. Nice to see the Crew with a decent lead for once. Shut 'em down boys!
  2. I have two words for you Bruce, about the "bad part of the order", SMALL SAMPLE. You talk about them being unable to get a hit, because they are hitting .200 or less after 13 games. J.D. Drew was hitting below .200 to start the game off, does that mean you can't count on him for a hit either? Please. These are major league players who go through ups and downs. Plus you seem to automatically assume that Miller would get a hit, which would happen only 1/3 of the time (based on his current stats). He is just as likely to have hit into a double play which would have killed any rally. Coaches often "play by the book" because that has proven affective in countless circumstances before this one. Granted, I do agree that you would not bunt in this circumstance if you had Carlos Lee up. But based on who we had batting, (a carrer .250 hitter w/ 0 power) it made a lot of sense. That's my $.02.
  3. So say Miller hits a single there instead of bunting. The fact is some part of the "bad part of the order" still needs to come up with a hit. So your point is moot. Bunting is a huge part of playing smart baseball. It helps manufacture runs, which is the whole goal of an offense. Ask any coach at any level about bunting, and I am willing to bet over 90% would bunt in a similar situation with what we had today. As for the "bad part of the order", these guys aren't little leaguers that are so terrible that they don't know how to swing at the ball. They are major league ball players who have made a living hitting baseballs. So obviously they are capable of doing just that.
  4. Bunting also eliminates the possibility of a double play. Which is another reason why it would make sense. It's simple baseball, bunting runners over so a single scores two runs. That has been the thinking teams I've played for have always used, in Little League, in High School and in college. Yet, seeing as you "refuse to change your opinion", you probably won't care what conventional baseball wisdom says.
  5. Bunting in that situation makes sense to me. Then a single ties the game. Too bad it didn't work out in this situation.
  6. I just looked up Anti-Clutch in the dictionary. Surprisingly it had pictures of Tommy Phelps, Mike Adams, and Geoff Jenkins.
  7. DUMP Phelps, he makes me wish we had Kieschnick back, there is no way his ERA would be in double digits at this point of the season. Good grief, this is making me so angry!
  8. A three run homer couldn't happen in the 10th, at least not by Lee, a two run homer is a possibility though.
  9. Don't we still have Wise in the pen? Why couldn't we throw him?
  10. And leave it to Yost to bring in Phelps to face people in the 10th, is this man braindead? Phelps is our WORST reliever.
  11. Vintage Bill Hall, swing and miss, K. Way to be a solid pinch hitter.
  12. Bad day for the relievers, this has probably been their worst outing of the year. It just feels like the Brewers can't put together a game where every part of their team (Offense + Defense) has a decent game. One part always seems to fall short when the other is trying to carry the weight.
  13. Adams - 2.50 ERA That is not bad for a closer. Some of the most recognized closers have worse ERAs than that.
  14. Time for a Carlos 2 run bomb and we all go home happy!
  15. Can't blame the pitchers for this one. Give the L to the guys behind them. Just pathetic hitting, they look more and more like the 2004 Brewers everyday.
  16. The Brewer's pitching certainly has been such a great surprise this year. Bottalico - 0.00 ERA - 4 innings Wise - 0.00 ERA - 5 innings JDR - 0.00 ERA - 6 innings Wes O - 1.42 ERA - 6 innings Santos - 2.08 ERA - 13 innings Adams - 2.50 ERA - 4 innings Turnbow - 2.84 ERA - 6 innings Sheets - 3.38 ERA - 21 innings Davis - 3.63 ERA - 17 innings Glovier -4.26 ERA - 6 innings Capy - 4.35 ERA - 10 innings Phelps - 9.00 ERA - 3 innings
  17. Santos has pitched amazing today. I am giving him a standing ovation in my dorm room. Hopefully, he'll continue to pitch like this. Today, he certainly looked like someone who belongs in the starting rotation.
  18. I know it's a small sample and everything, but is anyone disturbed that Brady Clark has more homeruns than Lee? After hitting so many in S.T., I guess I expected more power in the games that count. Unfortunately that hasn't happened. At least he's been more clutch than Geoff.
  19. What's up with Lee and striking out so much? Wasn't that something that he didn't do a lot over the past few years? Hopefully he didn't spend his offseason in the Geoff Jenkins/Junior Spivey school of hitting.
  20. Nice to see some runs. Why can't we do this for Sheets?
