  1. I'm not trying to dump on the author, but this article is filled with errors. In addition to the point you make about Ortiz's improved offense, the author is also wrong that the Rangers are a good offensive team. They rank 25th in baseball in runs and have the third-worst OPS. Texas is not going to trade Smith if they are trying to contend. If they do trade him, they will be selling, meaning they would want prospects in return, not bullpen pieces.
  2. My thoughts exactly. The Brewers might be making this transition due to the knowledge that pitch framing won't matter as much (or at all) in the next few years.
  3. Yes. Fangraphs and baseball reference grade defense and baserunning differently, which are the two things Turang excels at. So when you see a big gap in WAR for position players, it's usually players like Turang.
  4. Zips projections go off fWAR instead of bWAR. LAst year, Turang only had 2.5 fWAR.
  5. I'm not sure why Murph didn't turn to Williams when it was clear Koenig didn't have it in the 10th. I understand keeping him rested, but he had as Jack pointed out he had already gotten hot twice. At a certain point, you either need to decide to try and win the game tonight or play for tomorrow. Murphy chose neither, meaning the bullpen is zapped going into a stretch of seven straight against two of the best offenses in baseball, and the Brewers didn't even get a win out of it on Sunday. He's still my MOTY though.
  6. I could see Mitchell being an early career Yelich-type player who plays good defense, runs well, and hits the ball hard (albeit on the ground). He swings and misses too much, but I don't see that turning into a Keston Huira situation, as Huira had an obvious hole in his swing (high fastballs) and Mitchell doesn't. Small sample size be damned, when he's been healthy at the big league level he's done nothing but produce, and he adds more value in the starting lineup than guys like Blake Perkins. With Yelich out, he's not only an adequate replacement but is also a weapon that complements guys like Hoskins and Adames very well.
