Interesting phenomena, today is... if they get a lead in game 1, do they use Cordero? If they use Cordero in game 1, who closes Game 2 if needed, Turnbow? (Assuming it probably wouldn't be wise to have Cordero pitch twice in one day)
The lack of offensive firepower is an early concern. If they are real contenders and not pretenders, the Brewers are going to need to learn how to score more than 3 runs in a game like this
I'm late to the thread- in honor of all those who love "Small Sample Stats" I'd like to point out that Geoff Jenkins is on pace for a 68 home run season....
Regardless of whether we the fans think speed is a need or not, Melvin coming right out and saying so is telling. It would seem that the Brewers would love to have prototypical very fast base stealing good fielding CF (moving Hall to LF) or a Carl Crawford type in LF... I agree that it likely we'll see Melvin make a trade for such a player before Spring Training. Personally, I'm fine with Weeks leading off and Hardy batting 2nd
I would absolutely overpay for Suppan. I'd go so far as give him the Carlos Lee 4 years 48 million offer. He would solidify the Brewers rotation bigtime and he's hot right now, coming off of being the NLCS MVP
I think Clark is a better player than Barmes even when figuring in contract years and $$$, there would have to be more offered by Colorado, I would imagine
Barmes was pretty good as a rookie in '05, although his fielding stats were nothing too special... I gotta believe that the Brewers didn't offer Clark for Barmes straight up. There has gotta be more to it than that, if there is any truth whatsoever in any of it
Yep, exactly. The media out there and the Nats fans made a huge deal of it and it was why the Nats traded Ohka for Spivey. It became such a big deal that the Nats literally "could not keep Ohka on the team any longer", according to alot of media folks in Washington. At the time I thought it was way too big of a deal being made about the incident but was thrilled that it led to the Brewers getting a solid starting pitcher for Junior Spivey
Interesting that the Nats would want Ohka back. I 'spose with Frank Robinson it is not as much of an issue, but still I betcha a few Nats fans will bristle if Tomo gets signed there.
I don't get why the A's would want to trade either one... I'd love to have either of them on the Brewers but I do think Sheets is better than either of them No way would I trade Hall or Weeks though.
Multiple reports? I'd like to see 'em. As I mentioned in another thread, I think Rotoworld is getting alot of their Brewers information straight from Brewerfan.net Miller to the White Sox was merely speculation from a Brewers fans, myself... I doubt there are any substantiated reports
It doesn't sound like a protypical Doug Melvin move, does it? Which is probably the real reason, I bet, why the trade is being held up as Doug wants more than just one pitcher for one year, especially with other teams interested in Shrek Mench.
I remember when he was drafted, he said he planned to be in Milwaukee within a few years, and I figured that was just the confident boasting of a young man, but I do (did) like that he believes in himself...
What are your thoughts on Jeffress? I was thrilled that the Brewers drafted him, but am a little disappointed that he had a 5.96 ERA in Rookie Ball... Should I not be overly concerned about that? I see he averaged about a Strikeout per inning Where will he likely pitch in '07?
